This was requested earlier regarding the actor who played Selmy Barristan and D&D being their kunty selves:

"You know, before we deliver the scripts to actors we're going to perish in that script, we make the phone call, which has become kind of a tradition. And it's not that much fun. But usually, you know, people are quite gracious about it and everything. And this year for the first time we got some pushback where the actor said, 'Are you sure about that?' And we said, 'No, we're quite sure. You are going to die this year.' And so, yeah, there's a long conversation. Then we get a long letter explaining why this was a bad idea. Which just made us want to kill that person that much more."

And for an extra bit of "fukk D&D," I happened across what actorAlexander Siddig, who played Doran Martell, had to say in a fewinterviews.

The signs of how D&D don't know what the hell to do with characters and story arcs deeper than a tablespoon were also there for Dorne and Prince Doran.

*bb.com is being potato right now with 404s, but the gist is that the actor thinks that either the amount of attention drawn to his casting conflicted with the role D&D had in store or possibly that his character was going to be made a point of how they were diverging from the books. He was also killed off prematurely despite how many episodes they were originally going to have him in; originally it was going to be the end of season 5 but bumped to season 6.

-He did nothing in the last 2 conflicts
-He expressed no interest in the throne
-The council assembled in the Dragon Pit was completely unbelievable (Greyworm stacks the council against himself, lmao wat?)
-Tyrion, a man imprisoned for fukin inspiring Regicide, was somehow allowed to have a say in it
-The army holding the city just fuks off and goes home when they don't need to

So for those reasons, it really DOESN'T make sense in how it played out. But yes Bran has the qualities of an effective King provided he actually starts using his powers.
Assuming that Bran as king is the ending that GRRM is going to take, how we got there in the show is so unsatisfying because the lack of development makes this the most inexplicable, illogical turn as of yet. My guess is that they had no idea how to go from the basic plot points A to B to Z with the Three Eyed Raven/Bran and the White Walker threat, which led to us getting Wonder Bread on two wheels rather than a character with any depth or leads to his motivations, intentions, or purpose.

The finale takes the cake by leaving any rational person asking far too many questions that exist not due to some clever, nuanced, open ending, but because it failed to address still lingering conflicts while spawning an exponential number more.

By eschewing so much necessary character building and dialogue, we only have the least developed and perhaps most inconsistent main character as King of the realm despite having no firm grasp on his motivations, full capabilities, or impact on the story for the better of anyone else. The latter point in particular is crucial because that is the entire backbone to why Bran is deemed the best candidate to rule. When Bran wasn't indirectly furthering his own path towards becoming King, he was either being willfully negligent to hundreds of thousands of deaths or setting in motion the events that would lead to Dany's plot-madness.

Bran has repeatedly renounced his name, claiming to be some other being called the Three Eyed Raven, has claimed that he cannot rule anything as such, but upon being nominated for King of every Kneeling Kingdom, he flips like a switch claiming that this was his entire purpose, while also suddenly changing his tune with being called "Bran."

On top ofthat, none of this phases anyone - least of all Tyrion, who could very well be the most knowledgeable about Bran/Three Eyed Raven and his abilities after the cutaway "tell me everything" conversation. So either Tyrion should know the extent of Bran's influence, down to the chain of events that led to everyone slowly betraying Dany, or Bran purposefully omitted enough key details to paint himself as this decent, neutral being.

At the very least that should have been the end to Bronn's arc, serving as a side of character growth to him and giving Jaime another layer of conflict for leaving Cersei to fight alongside Dany and the dragon who killed his friend. Then when he pleads for Cersei to surrender or run away for the sake of their child, he has seen firsthand someone he personally knew and cared for die by the unstoppable power of the dragons.

Same dude. They pretty much became Rian Johnson 2.0 which I never in a million years would have expected.

And Kathleen Kennedy will have her hands all over it. Wouldn't be surprised if several male KOTOR characters become female because "reee too much men" just like marvel and the new SW Trilogy.

Yeah guess the show wanted us to assume they were carried away by current when there wasn't any, lol. But fwiw it was a river (you see when Drogon flies over it).

Exactly, they knew they wanted mad queen Dany and King Bran, but they were lightyears away from it and had only 6 episodes. Idk if they have contractual obligations to adhere to GRRM's proposed storyline, but if not I would have said fuk that and done a conclusion that's more in line with everyone's arc at the beginning of Season 8. Because just LOL @ Dany going from savior of the living to Satan in 2 episodes. Just lmao...

Bronn, Tyrion, & Jon are more examples of wasted time in this season and the abandonment of one of GoT's trademarks which is persistent danger and consequence. Dany was really the only admired-character sacrifice D&D were willing to make. Everyone else gets their happy ending. And what's worse, they all survive impossible odds en route to those endings.

Just lol @ murdering a beloved monarch and suffering absolutely no consequences.

Arya getting stabbed by the waif was the first time I remember D&D exploiting the very serious nature of violence in GoT for mere shock value. They understood how fans react when a character is stabbed and they abused it.

Bad pussy was stupid but Bronn made it funny so I didn't care as much. I was still on board with the show until this season. Even season 7 I didn't have many complaints.

never lmao there's no way anyone could forget about a series this ****ing good. including the characters. GOT characters > lord of the rings characters. way more depth. frodo was like the only one in LOTR with real character depth. not saying LOTR suck, the characters are good, but GOT characters have way more complexity.

it's gonna be good. the ending might not be good lol. but the rest of it will be. the thing is d&d ****ed themselves with this last season... so even if the star wars series is good people will still bash on it.

Did we ever find out what the significance was when Varys took his jewelry off before the guards came to take him to the campfire?

With all the massive "what was the point of this" in the end, I don't think Varys' jewelry was incredibly high on the list.
Everything depends upon execution; having just a vision is no solution.

Not concretely but the thought is that it was poison similar to the poison that killed Jefferey (hidden in sansa's jewelry) so he was taking it off to pass it to somebody else or to hide the evidence

That being said, there was absolutely no real significance because that's just fan theory. It's clear that no deeper thought was put into this last season

You never saw the sand snake fight in dorne? Where it looked like they practiced the scene maybe 2x? There were a lot of “oh come on” then.

But I do agree the 10ft deep water 6inces off shore was pretty lolz

I took that as a sign that he knew he was going to burn to death and he didn't want his jewelry to be melted down with him for whatever reason.

Yup, although in retrospect, the show runners were faltering long before.

A lot of people, myself included, have said Seasons 1-5 (which had the books to go off of) were the "good" seasons, but I think the cracks were showing even around Season 4, which was a good season which had amazing moments. I think there is when they subtly ruined Tyrion's character.

The whole thing with Shae turning on Tyrion was broken. Jamie not telling Tyrion that his first wife was actually not a whore. That broke him. D&D left it out, they decided to have Tyrion say mean things and Shae turn on him for that and then have her inexplicably attack him so he "had" to strangle her. It ruined Tyrion in that moment. Everything for his character moving forward hinged on him realizing his brother lied to him, realizing Shae never loved him, realizing his first wife did. We lost all of that and what happened was from that moment on Tyrion had no arc.

D&D just cut it out entirely.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

In what sense do people not care about it anymore? There is currently a spin-off trilogy that has done very well at the box office, there was a stage play that also did well, and the themed areas at Universal Studios are still massively popular with a new Hagrid roller coaster opening this month. I'm sure there are kids still reading it for the first time, heck I read the whole series for the first time a few years ago as a 27-year old and loved it.

Yeah people will continue to buy GoT merchandise and watch GoT related shows. They may not peak as hard as the originals but they'll still draw huge numbers.

In D&D's defense, 1 youtuber brought up a good point that they signed on expecting to do a straight adaptation (meaning GRRM finished his damn books) and were likely repeatedly told that the next book was coming. For that reason, they didn't develop a completely custom story but rather wanted to stick with George's plan.

Had they made their own story for the last 2 seasons, maybe it would have been better? They still goofed on lots of other things tho, so the blame is shared if anything.

Guess I'm a full blown redditor now because I'm loving this drama between Freefolk & r/gameofthrones, lmao.

The fanboys are so rustled that the lead actress is acknowledging the sub of alleged neckbeards.

Gonna go buy a Soylent to celebrate.

It’s hilarious. It’s a full scale revolt at this point. They are even trying to get the mods removed.

Honestly it goes all the way back to Stannis burning Shireen. They had the perfect setup and then made Stannis and his wife, Selyse, both do complete 180s.

Up to that point we had seen that Selyse was a zealot and she disliked Shireen. Stannis always defended Shireen and was shown to be a loving father. We had the whole “because you are my daughter” scene when he explained how he brought in every maester he could to save her. I’m pretty sure he mentioned that she was his sole heir at some point.

The end result of that abortion of show writing was that Selyse was burned, much of the army deserted, and Selyse was hanged.

All they had to do was have Selyse burn Shireen behind Stannis’ back as a sacrifice. Stannis finds out and is horrified, so he has Selyse hanged. The army can still desert because they lose faith in the lord of light after seeing the sacrifice. It fits perfectly with the established character arcs.
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

yep, ended after the books...as the end of season 6.
D+D are truly terrible writers.

HBO wanted 10 episodes. D+D couldnt do it so they refused that in the last 2 seasons.
