Seriously are you guus even watching the video? The dog had almost bite the damn cop in the leg wtf is wrong with you plebs
They also forget the part where they are trying to charge the owner with “having a vicious animal at large”, and sent her a $200 bill before they’ll release the remains of the dog.
They knew they messed up, so they are trying the bureaucratic "justification."
At least the officer apologized later it seems from the reports.

If the public reacts so poorly to justified shootings like those involving Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, etc where it was proven and the facts show the person was actively attempting to kill or greatly injure the officer/person, I can only imagine the reaction to an officer shooting someone who simply lunges at an officer while verbally threatening or yelling and not causing any physical harm.
I also am not saying the officer made the right decision. Personally I think he overreacted, BUT, in the scope of the law he will be protected since a dog's life is valued lower than that of a humans. I believe there should be repercussions for the officer, perhaps further training, but probably not being fired unless bad decision making is a recurrent issue with him.

Also agreed that he overreacted, and it's unfortunate that he will likely receive no punishment whatsoever. or if he does, it won't really be a punishment.
I'm more upset about how ready he was to kill this dog while his partner clearly so little threat. The dog being shot, while tragic, is unfortunately and undeniably legal.

Also he should have realized the dog stopped before it even got close, showing it was not attacking. Animals don't stop a few feet from you before they attack.
He over-reacted, and from the reports, he knew it because he apologized for the shooting.

My only concerns are the fact that LE seems to rarely face consequences (even small ones) in cases like this and it is part of the reason why the public (even those who support LE like myself) have lost some faith in the system recently. They are truly being treated above the law in some instances and seem to forget the customer service aspect of their position as opposed to acting like thugs. And to be clear, NOT ALL or even most officers do this, but they should be held to the highest of standards in all situations and the minority that abuse their power are giving a bad name for the entire profession.

I thought you wanted this to remain in the realm of logic. I have refuted some of your points with logical counters. But you would rather focus on the bait instead.

He went to his gun first before the dog even got out, instead of pulling his baton like the first cop. He was trigger happy.
