Bosa out for preseason, if its a bad sprain he may miss some early games I feel, really ****ty and not what I wanted, was excited to see the kid play asap with all the reports of his practice hype. Verrett's sprain seems a bit more minor, hoping he can get back soon. We really need guys to stay healthy this year.
I'm curious as to why in training camp they have so many practices in a row, especially having an offseason right before. I know there are rules in place regarding practices and practice types but it seems odd to me why they practice so frequently right away, I would think it would be smarter to start slow and ramp things up as they get into the end of preseason. I know you can't prevent a guy rolling up on someone's ankle but limiting consecutive practices as a coach is something I would definitely do. I would think about having guys go every other day, split them 50/50 so the team is still practicing everyday but half is getting treatment and doing lifting/conditioning, individual drills, recovery and treatment while the other is doing team drills (1 on 1, 7-7, 11-11). Makes no sense to have these guys risking injury especially when you know a bunch are already going to make the team. If anything have the fringe guys do a little extra work while the other guys prepare for the season, you have plenty of time to practice for 4-6 weeks before the season and now we got important players missing preseason games anyway because they got hurt, why not just let them practice lighter and play less or hold them out for the early preseason games anyway?

Sucks…
But just hope he's good for week 1. If he's good by then it may be a blessing in disguise. As much as I'd like to see him improve in camp while also helping the OLmen going against him and as much fun as watching rookies compete against other teams for a change in preseason…we need him for the games that matter.
For all the injury prone talk Bosa gets this is just bad luck. Few guys come away unscathed when they're engaged with an offensive lineman and a huge 300+ lb dude falls on their foot. Could've been much worse. I mean the Seahawks first rounder wasn't considered injury prone and had probably a worse injury.
Just have to avoid serious injuries from now on and have everyone healthy week 1.

Fortunately, Bosa is already extremely advanced. Like genus said, might be a blessing in disguise. He probably doesn’t need preseason, and it sounds like Shanny hates preseason. He’s already a lot further along than Aldon Smith was according to Staley and we all know how awesome Aldon was as a rookie.
Horny.

Just really hope we're getting all of our injuries out of the way in camp here so guys are actually available and ready to play week 1.
Tampa Bay and Cinci are games we need to win IMO but they're not layups as both are road home openers for each of those teams. Two back to back east coast games on top of it for us.
Having a consistent pass rush vs Tampa Bay is absolutely key or they may hang 40 on us. Not as scared by Cinci without AJ Green but still…need to win the games that we SHOULD win.
My other hope is that Shanahan and Lynch are using this as an excuse to shut down Nick and Verrett and by telling the reporters that the ankle injuries are more serious than initial reports they do just that.
If the reports were "ankle injury is minor" then the question would be "When will Bosa be back to practice? When will he play in preseason?"
Could totally be trying to talk something into existence but hopefully week 1 both guys are there and do not have future recurrences.

Week 1 and 2 are pretty ideal for back to back east coast games. And the Bucs game is an afternoon games and Bengals are unlikely to have Green. Being 2-0 for the home opener versus Pittsburgh will have that crowd buzzing.

Not surprised about Shanahan's comments about not liking preseason being 4 games, as I said earlier the amount of practice and the 4 games is just too much.
Sucks to hear about Kwaun Williams and Jet injuries too now, hopefully all our guys are good to go week 1 and I wouldn't be mad at all if Shanny decided to shelve some guys or play them less during preseason compared to some other people who are fighting for roster spots.

Like I said…it just felt like McKinnon may never suit up for us in a real game
I was rooting for him but sounds like that injury didn't heal very well. Unfortunate that we took him off the PUP since now the only option is to IR with designation to return but I really don't think we should use that designation for him. I'll be hoping and praying that we don't need to worry about using that designation for another player as we avoid serious injuries but still sucks to use that when if he just stayed on the PUP he still doesn't count towards the roster and can come back after 6 games.

Was listening to the SiriusXM last night and they were at the 49ers camp. They interviewed Breida and after listening to it I must say, i'm really pulling for this kid. Dude was adopted and both his adoptive parents are paralyzed. They were talking to him about his injury last year and how bad it was but he still continued to play through it and was still successful. I knew he was injured and but I didn't know the severity of it I guess. Anyway kid is really humble and seems to be a great human.
I did hear one of the hosts ask Jimmy G one of the dumbest questions a reporter can ask.
"So Jimmy, I see that you, Kittle and Taylor really have some good chemistry so far in camp. Is that something you guys want to carry into the season?" LOL no Jim, we want to be rusty when we go into the season.

Expectations came back to reality a lot last night. Lots of penalties, and injuries, boy does that sound alarmingly familiar.
That said, the rookie class looked sick with Hurd, Deebo, Greenlaw and Wishnowsky making plays. I thought there was some flashes of solid play from some other people, and also some flashes of not so good as well. All in all its hard to gain much from just one preseason game but Shanny and Lynch going to have some tough decisions to make, lets hope they make the right ones sorting out our 53.

Granted it's the first pre-season game so I expect a lot of penalties but definitely some glaring holes in depth.
I think our receiving core has the chance to be pretty nasty though. Although it's pre season, it's nice to see that we still came back for the win even with all the penalties and injuries

Taylor's game is all about quickness and his feet are obviously a huge part of his movement(talk about an obvious statement) so having a foot injury to him is scary. It's almost a double screw job because the injury isn't enough to put him out for enough games to do the IR with designation to return so now we have to give him a roster spot on the 53 knowing he's going to miss games but not knowing how many and how he'll look after the surgery. It's a big risk and it sucks.

The WR battle has been so close and it's going to be tough to see who makes the cut and I hope Taylor comes back healthy and looks like he was in training camp so far because clearly the QBs trust him and I'd hate to see him play closer to last season than his rookie year if he's back to not being healthy as we cut a receiver who can turn out to be pretty good.
The penalties have to get cleaned up but at the same time we didn't really play any starters out there save maybe Pettis and honestly some of those penalties looked borderline at best. And IIRC the chunk of them were holding calls by the OL. I feel like people tend to overreact to games where there are a ton of penalties. Now if you have late hit penalties, retaliation penalties and other post whistle penalties then it points to a discipline issue. Holding, PI type penalties are not penalties a coach can really help with discipline.

Still you always want to see your guys play well and hope they keep it up vs watching them play like crap and hope it's rust or learning curve and they get better once the game planning and the real games start. However this draft class is promising and we really need it to be special. Bosa needs to stay healthy and lead this draft class into greatness.

James fumbling that ball(it looked like a fumble) was ****. He makes a good catch and then can't bring it down? Can't have that happen. Both he and Bourne didn't help their case. I know Shanahan claimed he doesn't use preseason to really make his calls and uses practice…but WRs dropping passes in a game even if preseason certainly can't do them any favors.
Ironically Jordan Matthews who definitely has been falling behind in camp/practice had a nice grab in a key spot.
Have to catch the ball better. Drops, injuries, penalties. These are the things we need to leave behind in preseason and the past.

^ Nice man, have a fun time! As long as they're healthy they should be able to win that game IMO.
I'm going to take the wife and my father in law to the 49ers/Pats next year as we're playing in Foxboro next season. That's going to be tough as long as Thomas Brady is starting but last time we played there we got the job done so nothing is impossible.
Looking forward to our practice vs the Broncos next two days. Finally a chance to see our guys against another team in practice where your offense or defense has to look bad for the other to look good.
Of course the downside is now both your offense and defense could look bad in practice at the same time lol.
Hopefully even against Denver's scary pass rush our offense can move the ball and hopefully our defense continues to look good even though some of our key guys are out.
