Glad Jimmy bounced back, still some rust to shake off but will be nice to see him with the full offense out there.

I would have like to see our defense shut out Chiefs first string rather then get lit up like that for a big play but also curious to see them with everybody out there and playing for a full game.

Keeping my expectations low for now but excited to see the final roster and getting into the season relatively healthy.

If Dee Ford and Nick Bosa are ready to go by week 1 it’s gonna be awesome. First time in a long time we’ll be starting a season with a healthy and competitive roster.

Listen, I understand your world got flipped turned upside down in that SB collapse but take a minute and sit right there and realize trolling an official team thread isn't a good idea.

Chiefs were the best offense in the league last year for a reason. Without actually game planning for them it would've been pretty tough task to stop all that firepower, especially without our top 2 edge rushers in there.

However the TD we gave up was a total dick punch. Saleh better not pull that sh*t again. Playing Sully on edge is something I rarely want to see and never on 3rd down. To see him f*cking dropping into coverage to cover a speedy RB running a wheel route???? No thanks jeff.

Bad enough playing a DE in coverage on what looked like man coverage. Even worse when that "DE" is actually a DT playing DE. Now Sully isn't exactly Ted Washington type of DT but he's an interior player at his best and should never be covering a RB like that.

Didn't help that Tartt whiffed on the tackle tho.

Keep checking the transaction wire to see if we have traded anyone. Hope we can pull some trades off for some late rounds picks.

My hope is the following guys are traded away

CJ Beathard - I don't think he's as awful as most 49er fans think, I just think his weakness is on full display on this team. I think he's actually perfect for the Colts. He's very good throwing deep but he has piss poor pocket presence and holds the ball too long. Behind the Colts strong OL and with Ty Hilton he'd be a great fit there.
Arik Armstead - one year left on his contract, DL depth
Sheldon Day - ditto
Ronald Blair - ditto

I’m fine trading away either QB. Whichever one gets the best return. Guessing it would be Beathard but not sure. Neither are going to take us anywhere. We’re fukked if Jimmy gets hurt again.

And Breida should definitely be the starter. He’s a better player than Coleman. Coleman should be our main third down back and should spell Breida more than a true #1 gets spelled but Breida is a much better runner than him.

What do you guys think about the whole Dante Pettis situation?

I personally think people are completely overreacting to things and Pettis is still going to be huge for us this year and beyond. I know Grant Cohn is pushing his agenda out there and others are jumping on the bandwagon completely ignoring logic and rational thought.

Dante Pettis plays in the 4th quarter of a preseason game - coaches don't trust him, he's in jeopardy of a roster spot, could be traded or cut.

Deebo Samuel plays in the 4th quarter of a preseason game - kid is Anquan Boldin 2.0.

Bourne, James, Matthews play in the 4th quarter of a preseason game - guaranteed roster spots.

To me nothing has changed outside of Taylor getting hurt to throw things off a bit.

I think it's

Pettis, Goodwin, Samuel, Hurd as locks.
James really helped himself this preseason.
Taylor really helped himself this camp.

I think those 6 make it. Question is what about Bourne? He's had some drops but he's also been pretty consistent and still cheap and a great run blocker. Hurd is a little banged up, Taylor will be out for a few games…can we keep 7 WRs?

To me Matthews is the easy cut but if somehow the coaches think his size and veteran leadership makes him worth keeping then wtf happens. I'd hate to lose James or Bourne. Would be devastated to lose both.

I think they are frustrated with Pettis. He’s a great route runner and has the physical ability to be a true #1 but he’s clearly not an alpha. You can tell by his personality he’s not that tough. Not to mention him running the wrong route last year almost blew the Lions game. Jimmy got mad at him in this last preseason game for the way he ran his route.

He’s not gonna get cut lol. He has so much upside. I think a lot of it is Shanny knowing that and trying to light a fire under his ass to be more aggressive. But I’m sure it’s frustrating to the team that he hasn’t appeared to make a leap from his rookie season.

Yeah I agree. I think people are underselling Pettis working hard just because he's not busy posting workout vids online and is more concerned with posting about cartoons, photography and animals. But I think Vernon Davis was similar in some ways with his art projects and sh*t.

No question Pettis with the mind set of Deebo Samuel could be an elite WR but we've had "soft" receivers have success in the NFL. Pettis just has to be consistent in his route running and he'll be a solid contributor even if he's not going to be an elite WR.

I think people are over reacting about Pettis as usual with our fanbase

I do think Shanny is pushing him to be more consistent as he says so he'll become a solid #2. I don't think he will ever be a true #1 but we will see.

What do yall think about DJ Reed? I think he is overrated and has been outplayed by Mosely at corner. If we keep Jimmie Ward I just don't think Reed has a position and only thing saving him is he plays ST.

I actually like DJ Reed. I think we've had to move him all over the place and I think he needs to be kept where he can get comfortable. Same with Moore but he's been in at FS most of camp so it's worked out for him.

Honestly I really hope Moore steals the starting FS job. I think he's got some really good potential there and I hope we don't just hand it to Ward.

Biderman made a good point about about Pettis. He suggested it could be that Shanny is playing him in these 4th quarters and publicly criticizing him so he doesn’t feel too safe whereas last year they basically handed the jobs to 2nd year players in Witherspoon and Colbert and we saw how that went.

Malcolm Smith cut.

Good. Glad we didn't let the big contract and his veteran status get in the way of our decisions. Hopefully Greenlaw takes the starting job and we go younger and more potential route.

Glad Malcolm Smith is gone, what a waste of two years…

Does anybody else think Tevin Coleman looks slow? Breida and Mostert look best so far and I just hope Jet can get to 100%.

I dunno who tf we leave off at WR, DL?

Pettis at times doesn't look engaged then you see clips of him being open and not thrown too. Just hope he buys in and competes as hard as he can, especially at that position we can't keep a guy around who won't give it their all. He has a lot of room for growth in my opinion and already talented. Just has to play hard and he'll be alright.

We need to stay healthy at OL and CB. Not sure who we keep for CB and S. Will be interesting. Hopefully anybody we plan on leaving off we can get something in return.

Let's just hope for a 4th preseason game with no injuries and head in to tampa healthy for week 1.

I hate the idea that we're going to cut one of James or Bourne. I just pray we're not dumb enough to keep Jordan Matthews over one of those guys. I loved Matthews coming out on the draft but he hasn't progressed like I expected and he didn't stand out in camp/preseason.

Honestly I'm still not sold on Goodwin but I understand what he offers the offense when healthy. Question is can he be trusted to stay in games? His hands aren't exactly perfect either.

Regardless of all the BS I think Pettis, Samuel and Hurd are locks due to their draft status.

Goodwin, James, Bourne are my guys for the other 3 spots but then you have Taylor who seems to be the guy all the QBs trust. His injury is the biggest question. Is it bad enough that we put him on IR? Or do we not want to waste it on him or have him out that long?

The easy decision would be to put Trent on IR and then you have your easy 6 but McKinnon kind of fuks things up for us. If we put him on IR as well that's already 2 guys(max for IR with designation to return) and both are positions of strength/depth IMO.

Coleman hasn’t had the space yet, or created it for that matter, to showcase his speed. He’s not someone who is quick and laterally explosive. He gets a screen with some room in front of him though, watch out.

I’m not a big fan of Coleman. He’s a nice 3rd down back and okay to spell the starter for a couple drives a game but he shouldn’t be starting over Breida.

People are suggesting carrying 7 receivers. I don’t think that’s really viable.

TT is a lock because he’s Jimmy G’s favorite weapon and he’s pretty good when healthy. Goodwin might be the fastest receiver in the league and that’s always a useful tool, even if he isn’t as good as he looked at the end of 2017. With those two and the 3 locks I think we’re fine. And then at that point I’d take Richie James because of the special teams aspect. Matthews doesn’t do much for me and I’ve never been as big on Bourne as a lot of 49ers fans have been. He’s okay but he really doesn’t do anything that we can’t find in free agency if we had to.

Sounds like Street going to IR and Trent Taylor not likely to play week 1. I think they can keep him off IR and just inactive on game day until he's ready cause it shouldn't be long term.

Street to IR makes the DL cuts a bit easier.

Still not sure who the odd WR out will be, thinking Bourne or Matthews but both seem to be able to also make the team. It's weird I don't think either one is that much better than the other but we'll see who makes it. I think everyone else is a lock at that position and IMO Richie James has done more than enough in preseason to show he's ready to play WR and returner.

McKinnon back at practice and Shanahan clarifying his position on Pettis:

"I have been hard on Dante but if anyone knows me, I am hardest on the people I believe in & I do believe in him a lot. I am always probably going to be little disappointed because I think he could be very good & it’s important to our team that he is.”

Street to IR is a great move. He didn't show enough to really leave me excited but hated to see him cut to lose a dude who was a 4th rounder last year.

This way it frees up a DL spot for guys who are showing better things now - like Moore.

Sounds like unfortunately I may have been right about Jet. He had another setback. IR here we come.

BTW if anyone in here wants to play a game I created for NFL season let me know. It's a pick em game with a little twist. $20 buy in, chance to win $10 bucks back weekly and then large pot at the end of the season. It's my second year running it, on a google sheets doc, and I have been working to create a fully functioning website for it, just not at that point yet. If you're interested send me a PM. Last year we had 20 people playing and I'm looking to grow that number this year. All you really gotta do is make your picks each week other than that nothing else involved as far as time/effort goes.

It's very unfortunate. I wasn't a huge fan of the signing but now we'll never know what could've been. I think he ends up going on IR but that will make it very hard for him to ever make the team next year. Thankfully our RB depth is strong right now.

Honestly I just want to see the 53 already. I think OL will be the one position we will likely dip into outside of our current depth guys.

I'm curious to see how Garnett plays tonight and a couple other fringe players. At this point I am also super curious to see what the final 53 looks like. Hopefully we can come out of the game tonight with no injuries.

That was a terrible drop, then he catches a td. I think it just made the WR position even more difficult.

I thought Garnett played solid. Greenlaw and Deebo will be great contributors this year. Outside of that I liked Wilson Jr and he should make the team with Jet on IR.

I didn't like the secondary play, corners or safeties and tbh a bit concerned there. I know we have a better line and backers this year but I don't wanna see bs where these guys get burned over and over on deep balls, letting completions for not getting there heads turned and stupid penalties. We need our best players there to stay healthy or its still gonna be rough on defense. Did not like the play of pretty much everyone out there last night at safety and corner.

Edit: main reason I made this post was concerning Hurd's back. Definitely not liking that Shanny says its worse than they thought and he'll likely miss week 1. Back stuff worries me.
