I didn't like the secondary play, corners or safeties and tbh a bit concerned there. I know we have a better line and backers this year but I don't wanna see bs where these guys get burned over and over on deep balls, letting completions for not getting there heads turned and stupid penalties. We need our best players there to stay healthy or its still gonna be rough on defense. Did not like the play of pretty much everyone out there last night at safety and corner.

Edit: main reason I made this post was concerning Hurd's back. Definitely not liking that Shanny says its worse than they thought and he'll likely miss week 1. Back stuff worries me.
Hurd's back injury makes things tough. Honestly we're in a very sh*t spot right now because of that and Beathard. Kyle insists 3 QBs will be kept but I'm hoping it's a way to pump up any chance at a trade. I don't hate Beathard like some 49er fans but to me he's not worth keeping at the cost of another player.

At WR we have some tough decisions. Hurd and Taylor being hurt when they're both virtual locks for the 53 complicates things. The rest of the WR group isn't known for being iron men with Goodwin and Pettis both missing time last year and being on the smaller side. Samuel missing time in SC due to the way he plays. James is also on the smaller side.

If I have my way this is the 53(can't predict additions from another team so keeping it only to our guys but I think we add OL from outside the team)

QB: Jimmy, Nick(2)
RB: Coleman, Breida, Mostert, Juice(4)
WR: Pettis, Goodwin, Samuel, Hurd, Taylor, James(6) - hate to see Bourne go but the inconsistency in the hands hurt his chances.
TE: Kittle, Dwelley, Smith(3)
OL: Staley, Tomlinson, Richburg, Person, McGlinchey, Garland, Brunskill, Young, Johnson(9)

DL: Bosa, Buckner, Thomas, Ford, Armstead, Jones, Taylor, Moore, Blair(9)
LB: Warner, Alexander, Greenlaw, Nzeocha, Lee, Mayo(6)
DB: Sherman, Witherspoon, Verrett, Tartt, Moore, Ward, Williams, Reed, Harris, Moseley(10)

K: Gould
P: Wishnowsky
LS: Holba

That actually leaves 52 guys - final spot depends on whether we keep 3 QBs, 7 WRs or up the OL or DL. If I had my way I'd sneak Bourne in as the 7th WR for now but I have a feeling Kyle may actually keep Beathard and we'll probably end up seeing Bourne go to the Rams or Seahawks

Man haven’t been around here much. My work just blocked all forums. Guess I need to just get on here from my phone. Excited to see the final cut over the next two days. Even more excited that we get games in a week!

I'm a bit bummed about Colbert, I would be happy if he got healthy and came back. I dunno if Jimmy Ward last through the season and I'm not a big fan of some of the depth. Tarvarius Moore looks ok not huge on Exum, he does ok in run defense passing kinda meh.

Garnett would be solid depth had he ever been healthy and developed. Waste of a first round pick.

Not too surprised at Mathews, a little surprised at Damantre Moore getting cut but not that disappointed. Seemed like he could do ok in preseason not sure about regular tho.

Cuts are all done. A bit surprised with having only 3 safety’s. With he injury history makes me feel not good. Keeping 4 tight ends, 7 receivers. I would the 7 receivers is only because Hurd and Taylor’s injuries. Once they are healthy I would expect them to drop one?

Surprised to see no trades especially at the QB area.

Both Reed and Moseley played safety as well so it’s not really just 3 but I think we may add someone off waivers too. Given Ward and Tartt’s propensity for injuries….it’s a must.

How are y'all seeing this game 1 play out?

We have a lot of history vs Arians, Bucs not so much. Playing Winston excites me in the fact that he is mistake prone. I think their OL is susceptible to pressure and we can get to Winston we should be fine. A bit nervous about the secondary against a guy like Evans. Pressure can help us there.

They have a few name players but not anything I think will sway the game in their favor. If we can get pressure and actual sacks (how long have we been saying this) I think we win. I'm less worried about the offense even tho Jimmy may throw a "rusty" pick.

I predict we win 27-20 and my bold prediction is that we force two interceptions, equaling last years total in our first game. Anticipation is killing me for this game.

I love our D line versus their O line combined with Arians 7 step drop offense. Sherman can handle Evans well enough. Their running game shouldn’t be a problem. Can our safeties and linebackers cover OJ Howard and prevent deep balls? If so I think our defense can look really good.

If Jimmy G plays like we know he can then we win.

I hope so too, took him in my money league and hoping he delivers despite the split carries. Love me some Cheetah.

Hoping Nick plays. Not sure we let him play a ton but obvious pass downs I'd love to see him out there and making a big impact.

Tampa Bay isn't a cake walk by any means IMO. Going across the country for the other team's home opener is a tough task regardless of how things look on paper.

And speaking of looking good on paper - Mike Evans, Godwin, OJ Howard is a stacked group of pass catchers. Our pass rush NEEDS to come hard and often cuz if Winston gets time I don't see our secondary keeping up with those guys. They'll make their plays so we just have to keep them out of the endzone.

On offense we have to do the opposite…move the ball and end up in the endzone. Not settle for FGs in road games and definitely can't afford to turn the ball over. Hopefully Jimmy plays smart and doesn't take unnecessary chances with the ball.

I'm so fuking ready dude…glad we don't have to wait til Monday night this year.

Things I'm really excited/curious to see

1. Jimmy G
2. Our WR playing time/target distribution
3. DL play and snap counts
4. Secondary - do we even know who's starting at FS?
5. Breida/Coleman snap counts

Wish Hurd wasn't hurt, backs can nag. He looked solid even if limited and preseason.

I hope we get a lot of positive answers about the questions about this team this year. Although if I learned anything from Chip and Tomsula week 1 is no pure indication of your team. I hope to see a solid all around performance and changing the mistakes of years past.

I want a more aggressive defense. One that forces sacks, turnovers, and turns their head around to see the damn ball. I hope to see less penalties overall. I hope to see a team that can close out game. I'm the most cautiously optimistic I've ever been considering I am a giant homer. I just want wins and a solid year, I feel like we deserve it as fans at this point. The last two (maybe longer) decades have been rough as a niners fan.

Assuming we finally get a break from the football gods and our DL stays healthy I think you'll definitely see that.

Pass rush downs DL of Bosa, Buckner, Thomas, Ford is going to go HAM. The rest of the defense will reap the rewards and the forced turnovers will come. As far as turning your head around I think fans get too caught up in that. There's a time and place to do that. Turn your head around at the wrong time and you're f*cked. But when you know the WR can't do anything but continue running his route with you then yeah…turn around and don't let the refs f*ck up great coverage. Those mofos are so damn flag happy any time there's any contact.

I hope we have some smart playcalling for the offense to ensure Jimmy starts off hot and gets that confidence back real quick and we pile it out. Not sure who is playing for Tampa on D but JPP is definitely out which puts their best pass rusher on the bench. If Vea isn't playing that certainly makes them easier to run on as well but he is practicing so he may be out there. They have their new shiny MLB in Devin White so I'm curious how he does. I also forgot they had Donkey Kong Suh now…certainly a player who should be shut down with his reciprocity for dirty play.

Hopefully our OL will be up to the challenge and we get the W. I'd love a blowout but don't see it happening. Week 1 home opener across the coast. Super hot and humid…I'll take the close W.

Really think people be sleeping on our defense. Saw where the 49ers and Bucs game gonna be a shoot out but I just don't see it. We literally added a top 5 pass rusher (Ford), the best pass rusher in the draft (Bosa) and one of the better young LB (Alexander) in the league to go along with a defense who probably would have been top 12 last year if they got their fair share of turnovers.

I think they're predicting that because it's a road game for us which helps the other team's OL. There are also serious questions with our secondary until proven otherwise. Questions about the health of Bosa.

Also the fact that Tampa has some great passing threats in Evans, Godwin and Howard and if Winston gets time he can definitely sling the ball.

Sounds like Vea and David are going to suit up for them so that will definitely be a boost to their defense.

The heat will be tough for both teams to deal with. Hopefully our depth at WR and DL help push us ahead in this one.

I love our chances this week looking at it from the matchups but I am tempering expectations. I really don’t want to go into the season feeling great like last year and then ****ting the bed.

Just gonna assume Jimmy needs more time to get right and our defense will have some holes early in the season.

Good news - sounds like Bosa is going to play week 1.
Good news/bad news - Jimmie Ward suffers a broken finger in practice yesterday so Moore will likely start at FS(making a slight assumption there)

Honestly…wtf is going on with Ward? Dude had 0 injury concerns coming out of college and the fuker can't avoid breaking bones every week. Tartt is kind of similar too - lots of broken bones. I think they played in the same HS…should check wtf is in the water at that school.

At least bosa is playing. That front 7 should be all over the qb. Hopefully that helps out the weak secondary

Something that’s not mentioned enough, we’re gonna have a special teams advantage in every game if Mitch is as good as advertised. Between him, Gould and Mostert we’re looking sexy in a very underrated aspect of football.
