Great win, the Staley injury is a blow but luckily he will be able to come back this year and one week of recovery takes time during our bye week. That said it ****ing sucks.

Everything else today was pretty awesome to see. Still stuff to work on but 2-0 on the road is huge and Pitt not looking great should be a good way to open up at home for us.

Let's get a third win next week then get some rest time during the bye.

I'm honestly really ****ing depressed about Joe's injury. Sounds like he is more upbeat about it than I am

8 weeks isn't the worst news we could've had but seeing such a key part of the offense get hurt is a real kick to the dick.

Overall there wasn't much to complain about outside of that though. The few things would just be nitpicking really.

1. Jimmy's interception - have to rewatch it to see if it was a bad throw or bad decision…or both. Looked like triple coverage out there which screams bad decision. Thought he was done with those.

2. Penalties - still too many bonehead penalties. Hope we clean this sh*t up at home next week. Lining up in the neutral zone(wtf is happening?), roughing the passer, kicking the football(yes you should've had the pick 6 Spoon!)

3. Pass rush can be even better - Bosa is playing with a bum ankle but honestly I've been expecting more than we've gotten so far and the Bengals OL was beat to sh*t. They definitely weren't terrible so I don't want to seem like a real dick bashing them but we'll need it to be much better vs the better QBs of the league and certainly the better OLs of the league.

4. Dante Pettis - wtf dude? I didn't think the stories of him being in the doghouse were legit but the snaps speak for themselves. Hopefully he snaps out of it and fights his way out of the dog house. I still think the kid is smooth as hell and can be a big play maker for us but he has to show the coaches he wants it more. Disappointing but we're 2-0…

Curious to see if Roethlisberger is a go against us next week. My guess is both Ben and Conner play in which means our D definitely has their toughest test of the season so far.

Steelers can also pass rush very well so losing Joe before that game hurts…hopefully our running game can keep things going.

Going in 3-0 into the bye would be HUGE.

We won't have Staley but the Steelers wont have Big Ben. I'm guessing maybe the kick McG out to LT and have Skule fill in at RT? Probably need to sign a vet OT to come in and provide backup.

Going 2-0 on the road is huge for this team. Hopefully the home crowd gives us an advantage and its not "too hot" for the pansies to show up.

The running game took over yesterday and it was beautiful and demoralizing to the Bengals.

I hope I'm wrong but i think it may be 50/50 Steeler fans.

As a 49ers fan living on the east coast when I try to plan a trip for an away game I try to go to a game that I think will be a win and let's be honest this was considered one of the easier games for the Steelers.

Add in the fact that Levis is rarely filled by our fans, especially when it's still hot.

But back to the injuries…I think the loss of Staley for us is MUCH worse than the loss of Ben for the Steelers. That may sound crazy considering he's a HOF QB but for this game is what I'm referring to.

Ben sucks on the road on the west coast and he's played like crap all year long even on the east coast/home. He's also a known commodity.

Rudolph is younger and is more of an unknown. That adds some wrinkles to the game plan. We don't know his tendencies, we don't know his strengths, his weaknesses. He also has great chemistry with James Washington from their days at OSU.

Of course I hope we keep this momentum going and have our defense dominate and have the offense keep things going while Staley is out but it will be a tough game regardless.

The worst part is the Steelers are desperate at 0-2. If they have any hopes of a playoff run they HAVE to win this game. 0-3 in the AFC pretty much sticks a fork in them without Ben so they will come at us with everything they have. Not a good time to play without your franchise LT.

Looks like Steelers traded for Minkah, no Big Ben, no Staley for us, wonder if Ford plays?

I still think we win comfortably Steelers have looked like ass.

They looked like ass with Ben playing. I'll be curious where they play Minkah. If he plays safety less than a week seems like a short time to get a key part of the defense ready…could lead to a lot of mental breakdowns.

Maybe it's these last few years making me afraid to trust what I'm seeing but can't just assume we coast in this game.

I think it ends up being pretty close but would love to be wrong as we continue our wins by a good margin against teams who aren't very good.

Genus, regardless of the loss of Staley I don't see why we wouldn't beat up on Pitt. They have looked terrible, and we have not. We will be all over their offense which has looked pretty bad and their secondary has given up big yards.

I understand not trusting this team but this is clearly a new team. The only reason we may have some trouble is if we have too many penalties. Other than that I don't see us losing this one.

Our defense, offense, and special teams has looked better than theirs and this is our home opener. I know this team isn't gonna overlook anyone and I expect we dominate this game in similar fashion to our last game.

We should win this game but maybe I have PTSD from the last few years so I'm not ready to celebrate a 2-0 start. Don't get me wrong it's been a damn long time since we started 2-0 and we've lost plenty of games to crap teams so winning the way we have on the road even against bad teams is a step in the right direction but I want to see more.

Pittsburgh has been playing terrible but when a team trades their first rounder for a player it means they're not looking to lay down this season. At 0-2 and making that trade they're going to come with everything they have and we just lost our franchise LT. I hope our coaches and players are ready for their best shot because they're going to bring it.

I also hope our fans show up and get loud. I know the way the stadium is built doesn't help things but I'm tired of the stigma 49er fans get…have some fuking pride in your team. Steeler fans travel well too…so hopefully our fans show up on Sunday and get loud when Pittsburgh is on the field. Help our pass rush get to the young QB and hopefully see him make a lot of mistakes.

On the offensive side of the ball hopefully the running game stays strong because we need to protect Jimmy as much as possible. Best way to do that is move the chains and score points running the ball. Jimmy was perfect off playaction against the Bengals. Let's keep that trend going!

Even if they bring it we're a better team. We will bring it too.

As for the fans I hope they show up but at this point I have no faith in the faithful. Regardless of crowd (it should be better than the norm because its the opener and we're 2-0) we should win this game.

I've been watching football long enough to know that doesn't mean much. And maybe it's because I've been burned for having high expectations before that I'm so weary of getting overconfident in this team until they beat someone of worth lol.

And honestly are we better than the Steelers?

QB: 49ers - Rudolph is an unknown though so that can go one of two ways.
RB: Tie - Our guys played great Sunday but talent wise I can't put our guys over Conner and Samuels
WR: Steelers - JuJu is still a stud, James Washington is a nice deep threat and our guys simply haven't stood out so far.
TE: 49ers - Kittle > *
OL: Steelers - especially with Joe being out for us. Steelers have one of the better OLines in the game.

DL: 49ers - but Steelers DL are playing great with Hayward and Tuitt
LB: Tie - kind of an unfair comparison since Steelers are 3-4 and we're 4-3 but TJ Watt is a stud. Bush and Barron are quality players as well.
DB: 49ers - Minkah is a curveball but I'd still say we're better at this point but it's closer than I'd like.

Coaching: Hopefully 49ers

Biggest test for us is our DL vs their OL. We've done a very good job generating pressure with just 4 guys but let's be honest the TB and Cinci OLs haven't been a challenge at all. Pittsburgh is. Can we keep generating pressure with 4 guys or will we have to blitz more?

I trust Kyle Shanahan to get our offense moving even without Joe. But I still don't trust Saleh against more talented offenses in the game. Rudolph is a wild card so I have no idea what he'll do.

Once we beat a proper team with a very good offense that will go a long way to making me feel comfortable with Saleh.

PTSD is a great way to put it. Cautiously optimistic is another way to put it after the last few seasons. Let's just pray that players stay healthy and the Steelers are who we think they are.

Go niners!

Genus holy **** you are over thinking this lol. This isn't the pats or chiefs, have you watched the two teams play this year. Don't think about the Steelers or 49ers of yesteryear. This year man. I'm not anywhere near "over" confident in this team but given the first two weeks performance of both teams I'm "normal" confident that we win Sunday.

Yeah, it’s okay to be cautiously optimistic with this team but when you start thinking Staley’s loss is bigger than a Big Ben loss your head isn’t in the right place.

I had a more poignant response written up but the page crashed and I don't feel like getting into it again.

Just hope we go into bye week 3-0.

And my point was specific to each team and how they've done so far and where they're going.

We're going from Joe Staley - our franchise LT, protecting Jimmy's blindside and giving us continuity on the left side of the OL as we go up against a pretty good pass rush on the Steelers
We're going to Justin Skule - a rookie LT who is basically our 3rd LT

Steelers are going from Ben - who has been playing like crap and plays like crap on the west coast
Steelers going to Mason Rudolph - a QB who has been in the system for 3 years now, has great chemistry with Washington from their college days and playing behind a really good Steelers OL with some nice weapons

Now if Rudolph comes out and plays like Nathan Peterman I'll be happy to say I was crazy as sh*t

Yeah no question positional value is clearly QB #1.

Hope I'm super wrong and Skule is up to the task of filling in Joe while Rudolph makes Week 1-2 Ben look like Joe Montana in his prime.

This week 4 bye isn’t as bad as we thought it was. It’ll give Bosa and Ford a chance to get right. If we can go into that Monday Night game against Cleveland at 3-0 with Bosa and Ford 100% and getting back Taylor, Hurd, Ward and Verrett that’d be awesome. Coleman also might be back for that game as well.

We’d just be down Staley as long as nothing bad happens this Sunday.

btw genus, it’s over for Solly T. He’s invisible out there. I know his snaps are down but Armstead is making noise in his limited snaps. Thomas is a bust.

Yeah…I don't see Sully doing much at this point. He got a lot more snaps on Sunday and still didn't really stand out.

He's a capable backup right now which is a far cry from where I saw him being for us at this point in his career. Not sure how much of it is his fault and how much is the fault of our coaching staff/circumstances. We'll never know.

Honestly at this point we may as well trade him away and let the kid get a fresh start somewhere else. I thought maybe the infusion of talent at edge and him getting his mind right would light a fire under him but despite his hustle the results just aren't there. Damn shame.

As for the early bye, definitely could be a blessing in disguise. Of course there's no telling how we'll feel mid season but going into the bye 3-0 would be huge and hopefully it will help us recover from the injuries that have been holding our guys back.

Would be nice if Bosa could come back close to 100% and get our WR improved with Trent and Hurd to make the offense even more dangerous. Plus it's another week Staley is out that we don't actually play a game.

Fuk I can't wait til Sunday. Really hope my paranoia turns out to be wildly stupid.

Sorry if this has been talked about recently, but I thought Pettis was supposed to be the main WR, but it looks like Samuel is getting all the #1 WR work. I've not gotten to watch any 49ers games, but is he a legit #1 WR or just the hot WR right now that they'll ride until his flame dies? I've been reading stuff about him and Jimmy building good chemistry together.

Samuel is legit. He’s explosive and aggressive.

Pettis is very talented, great route runner but he’s definitely in the dog house. I think Shanny knows he can be really good but he’s not being aggressive enough.
Horny.

Yeah, Pettis is in the doghouse for some reason. Some of the TV commenters mentioned that he might have come into the season "out of shape", but I remember early training camp reports had Shanny praising Pettis' gain in muscle and strength. So I have no Idea what's going on. I think Shanny wants Pettis to be more aggressive. He did play a ton of snaps last game though, but didn't get targeted. I like Deebo, but I haven't seen anything "special" yet. He has had good numbers, but he's been heavily schemed open.

They were talking out of their ass. Pettis may be in the doghouse but it had nothing to do with him being out of shape. If they were talking about any WR being out of shape it was Deebo.

It's honestly so frustrating when announcers talk about something and they're blatantly wrong or ill informed. They're treated as a source of truth by everyone who doesn't actually know what's going on and then it becomes a truth to most people.

Fact is Pettis had one of the best 49er WR rookie seasons in a while. I believe he actually set the record for TDs by a 49ers rookie which is pretty crazy when you consider the WR talent we've had on this franchise over the years.

That talent doesn't go away. I'd love to have him have more urgency and be more of a traditional football player but he's not…

The dude was just as content to throw that pass without getting any receptions. That's definitely not your typical WR mind set but given the sh*t that Antonio Brown is pulling it's hard to get mad at a guy who clearly doesn't care about his own stats.

Kind of a double edged sword. You want a guy who is not going to hurt you in the media or hurt the locker room for being selfish but you also want the guy to be hungry and WANT to be a top guy.

Hopefully he breaks out again soon. The talent is still there.

I tend to believe the game announcers. They spend time with Shanahan before the game. I don’t think they’d throw that out there without actually hearing that from someone in the organization.
Horny.
