Also check out an Explorer II or GMT.

If you really want to buy something now, I'd go with the IWC since an ETA doesn't bother you. Other pilot watches have the same movement at a price of 1k, but the case and dial of the mark series really set it apart (I bought a mark xvi a while ago). TBH if I were you i'd look into their most recent spitfire series, it's all in house, and has a 72 hour power reserve, among other improvements.
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/iw...on-introducing
Modern IWC mark watches frustrate me a little in that there's always something I find to be slightly off.
-XVI has no arabics on 3/6/9.
-Date on XVII is odd ("triple date").
-Date on XVIII is too far into center of dial (thought to be a case-movement mismatch and much more noticeable with black dial version).
Now that they finally have an in house pilot watch (spitfire) that isn't huge/$10k+, the lume on the hands and markers is mismatched. It's almost like they are looking for something a little "off" to include in the design. The older mark series watches (XI-XII) worked well because of they had well executed simplicity IMO.
Anyway, I'm sure some people will find the dual lume colors beautiful, it's all subjective. Overall, I still think that the IWC mark series remains light years ahead of the competition in terms of looks, apart from maybe a Breguet XXI. If you don't like the new spitfires, i'd consider waiting a little longer. I'm fairly certain that the new in house 3 hand movement (caliber 32110) will replace the ETA 2892-A2 in the mark series in the near future.

I like them a lot but it doesn't meet the underlining criteria I was hoping to meet for my next watch. I currently have a brolic chronograph. I was hoping to find something that could more seamlessly straddle daily "chinos and tee-shirt" to "suit and tie". While neither the markxviii or nomos are pure dress watches, you could get away with both in a suit. The new spitfires (even in 39mm) are a bit too brawny in the color schemes.
If they release a Mark XIX, keep the white lacqured dial, and throw in that new in house movement then sign me up.

Crazy how you can watch a dozen youtube videos about a watch, look at wrist shots until you turn blue and still be completely shocked (good or bad) when you finally get it on wrist.
I had the day off of work today so decided to go into a shop that carried nomos. Found the Zurich World Time and was very surprised. There’s a grocery list of things that I liked about it. My daily is a 44mm chronograph, so I’m used to big-ish watches (My wrist size is 19cm). I read that the Zurich was 40mm but that still didn’t stop me from being surprised at how much more complimentary a 40mm looks on my wrist compared to the 44mm. In addition to that, their in-house movement is substantially thinner than my monster ETA 7750. The clear case back is decorated handsomely too. The jumping GMT function feels very sturdy and strong, and the city display looks even cleaner than it does in photos since the city “disk” is recessed. If all that wasn’t enough, I originally thought the polished case was lazy and cheap of nomos going off pictures. But when you get it on wrist, the shiny lugs actually draw your eyes in to the dial which is so unique and cool to look at with everything including the running seconds @ 6. Literally the only knock I have on the watch is the cordovan strap which by nature looks a little plastic-ey and cheap. Swap the strap and in my opinion you have a 10/10 watch. Chrono24 has some new/unworn running at 4grand. That’s a steal. Throwing out the pursuit of the Mark XVIII completely. This is my next watch without question.

A couple of watches I checked out today:
Master Ultra Thin Small Seconds in Steel
Lange 1 Moonphase in Platinum
Burtiful
Note: I have poverty wrists, so these are actually a bit smaller than they seem.

What would you guys suggest as the best dive watch, max 41mm, under $500? There's a few Swiss brand which are quite cheap but haven't read much in the way of positive reviews.
I only eat food in bar form. When you concentrate food, you unleash its awesome power, I'm told. That's why I'm compressing 5 pounds of spaghetti into one handy mouth-sized bar…

Micros in this range could include the Helson Shark Diver 40, among others. Stretching the budget a bit and going used could get you a Oris or Halios diver.

Stowa also makes good pilots. Also, I like Zenith pilots if you want to go all out with a large watch [+ in house movement]. They are a bit pricier though, and that crown might take getting used to.
