Saw the video, was crazy…glad no one was hurt

6 years ago, I almost died driving back from London to Toronto on the 403. Was around the Hamilton area where the roads were curvy and it was snowing at the time. Some douche in a Civic hatchback got impatient with the tractor-trailer in front, decides to swerve onto the left lane without signalling, when I'm in the fast lane going 20km/h faster than him. I had to swerve across traffic right-to-left to avoid hitting the idiot, ended up bumping against the guard rails and slowed down on the safety area to the right. Steering was phucked afterwards and thank god no tractor trailer rammed me during that time or my tour was over.

Definitely learned to be defensive driver that day.

Read the meter and make sure you're parked within the signs that specify when they charge for parking (and not in front of a hydrant either).
In most neighbourhoods downtown parking is paid 8AM-9PM Mon-Sat and then 12PM - 6PM (or 9PM) Sunday.

3h maximum during the paid times which means you can leave your car overnight (as long as you have paid till 9) and move it before the morning cutoff.
Honestly brah if you're feeling worried about it just park in a lot. Usually cheaper if you're staying for an extended period of time (especially during the day) and no guessing at whether you're parked in a bad spot or not.

Live DT so I drive down here from time to time (or when I am trying to leave). Basically anytime after 8AM and before 8PM is an absolute cluserfuark.

TTC/walk/bike anytime I can crew

ok two qs:

1) i've so far parked in those parking lots. $4 all night after 6pm. I assume no issues there?

2) there are signs that say 'parking meters enforced 9am to 9pm'. so that means I can park for FREE after 9pm? Also means if I go to a club at 9, I have to go back out at 12pm and move my car? (3 hours max on street)

ggMoe: Yep for a big city, toronto's parking is beyond whacked. And i'd take buses/subways but they stop at 1:30am. uber/taxis, as everything in toronto, is super expensive. Driving is stil the cheapest option for evening.

There is supposedly a new show coming out about the 401 and stuff that happens on it, keeping an eye out for it.

canadian drivers def. drive fast like chit. The fact I have yet to see a to cop with a radar gun only encourages this. If to drivers drove this fast in la, they'd get speeding tickets like a mofo from lapd. I always drive in the slow lane like miss daisy here. Not taking chances in the winter.

Yeah that doesn't magically cure all. There is a point where even with winter tires and 4x4 it's too slick to do much.

In other driving news, I failed my G license test. Tester was a real bitch to me the whole time. Docked me for not going 100 while merging on the QEW before I could see what the traffic looked like. Then got docked for going 80 in what became a 50 zone after getting off the QEW. The latter I should have handled better but I wanted to play it safe going on as I usually do.

Pisses me off that we have to go through more than one road test compared to the US. Only doing G license to join Uber and dat dere insurance deduction. Likely no appointments open until February. Phuk Niagara.

Sorry to hear that brah. Yeah the key thing is to put the tester in a good mood, srs. I remember when I took the G it was cold and raining so I turned the heated seats on. Tester liked it and I got off with a warning when I accelerated like a madman onto the highway lol. Sometimes they're harsh and sometimes they're lenient, ya gotta do what you can to suck up to them.

LOL at having to merge onto anything. I went up to Bancroft for my G test and it was simple.

Brb drive 80km/hr
brb slow down to 50
brb brb stop at lights
brb parallel park in this space, just pretend that there's 2 cars there (srs)

They actually ship asians (no racist) up here to do their tests because it's simple and no merging on to a 400 series highway.

I did my test at the slightly-more-southern equivalent of that, Tillsonberg. Retirement town, everyone drives 40 so I just had to maintain traffic speeds and she couldn't dock me for not doing 60 LOL
