There’s good watches for under 500 for sure, but they aren’t made by Daniel Wellington or any of the makers you mentioned. “Just as nice” lmao you’re clueless

Agreed.

Hamilton and Tissot actually make some totally respectable stuff for less than $500. The Seiko Prospex stuff (Sumo specifically) fits that bill too. But LOL at thinking fashion brands make good watches.

That's not even it.. I'm actually cheap af (indian lol).. But I don't see purchasing a watch as a waste since it holds it value quite well, unlike a car (especially a luxury car).
it's almost like buying *********.

One of the best chronograph movements of all time. I got really into watches during the time maybe 10 years ago that they were making some of the ugliest watches on the planet. They seem to have turned it around over the last few years and they're back to looking good. I like the one you posted.

I would have owned one by now, but the brand name. Can't get past the idea that they share it with a defunct company that made terrible quality consumer electronics.

Strong picking two generic designs, and another that Patek wipes their ass with. The owner of Vicento probably has dreams about this watch.

Nicer in what way? By appearance, a shot of well whiskey in a glass will look just like Louis XIII cognac-and get you just as drunk. Bonded leather shoes can be polished to look similar to shell cordovan shoes. A fake Rolex looks almost identical to a real one, and gold plated looks like solid gold. Unless you compare items on the qualities that make them valuable, it is senseless to make a comparison.

Here is the inside of a Patek Phillipe. You don’t have to find value in it, but you should be able to see that there is a difference in craftsmanship evident between this and a quartz Christopher Ward watch. Some people value that difference.

I agree that is pretty nice. Although you mentioned that "good" FAKE rolex is almost identical to a real one (at least in SS). Even the weight is the same.. why would you pay 100x the price for the real one?

Because if you really love watches you buy them for yourself, not for other people.

Most watch collectors will tell you that there are huge differences in quality. Rolex uses a particular steel called 904L, which is highly corrosion resistant, and shines beautifully. There is incredible quality control at their factories and materials are sourced ethically. Movements are insanely robust (free sprung balance, parachrom blu hairspring, microstella adjustment screws, balance bridge, etc), and there is usually some cool history behind the piece.

That said, these days there’s certainly some high quality replicas floating around with replicated movements, and even some “Franken” watches that use genuine Rolex parts. The value of a genuine watch really comes from how important it is to you that you have something authentic. If you want a watch that you can show off to strangers with, you are better off with a fake. You don’t really like watches and most people can’t tell the difference anyway. If you have a passion for watches, then a fake won’t do. It would be like a car enthusiast buying a fake Ferrari. You will know what is under the hood, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

What do you guys think of Breitling? I'm strongly considering buying the Avenger 2 GMT black steel, but due to it being discontinued (no inventory at local ADs) will have to pay close to RRP.

I think it's quite expensive for a modified ETA but I love the aesthetic of the watch, and it suits me well as I have a job where I dress informally. This would be my first entry level 'luxury' watch, as I have only bought Seikos & G-Shock before.

ETA makes solid movements, and I hear Breitling finishes them up nicely. There will always be people who knock movements that aren’t in-house, but most of the criticism is unwarranted imo. The 2892-A is a great movement. IWC uses it, and ETA has has actually incorporated modifications from IWC into the movement over time.

Regarding Breitling, I really like older navitimers and the color contrast between the dial and subdials. Great looking watch. Whatever you decide to get, I strongly recommend trying the watch on first. Try a few other models as well. Go with what suits your wrist the best.

I used to be heavily into Breathing. Owned 5-6, own a pair now, but have mostly moved on because they really fuked up their designs with that chitty font they started using 7-8 years ago (and I still bought one lol). Never had a problem with one. I regret selling my Navi. Looking back on how little I got for it, I wish I still had it. They brand went to chit after the designs went bad, and they could be had for super cheap. It seems like they are kind of back on track now as far as designs go, but I haven't been paying too close of attention.

The Batman, what an awesome looking watch. I don’t travel enough to warrant a GMT, but if I did, this would be a top choice for me. I imagine that it is only going to appreciate in value in the coming years.

Depends if Rolex continue to constrain supply, imagine all SS professional models will go up in value. Also if they discontinue it this year as Basel World like some believe, it will def go up in value.

Agreed. I have a soft spot for Omega, so I love this.

What autos do you all like that are under $600? I’m a poor as fuk medical student and want something decent that I wouldn’t mind throwing around. Looks like I’m between the Hamilton Jazzmaster and Tissot Visodate Vintage. Any other suggestions? No chrono or divers, please. I like simple, classic faces. Date window would be great.

I’d love a vintage Seamaster, but they’re so outrageously priced right now.

It still bothers me that it's called the "Batman", yet it doesn't have any yellow accents.

This is $650, but you could probably get a better deal if you look around a while. The snowflake dial is just incredible, and I think this watch is worth way more than the asking price based on aesthetics alone.

They will discontinue BLNR, however it will be re-introduced with the new 70hr movement that is found in the BLRO (pepsi) and for around $1k extra MSRP.

BLNR prices are pretty crazy now though, $14k is ridiculous.

@Kovalchuk71

The skydweller is not overpriced right now I believe the market price is much more appropriate considering it is Rolex's only annual calendar and most complicated watch
