My AD had none of the SS watches in, except i think an Exp II and maybe a datejust. I live in a highly touristy area, especially this time of year now that horse racing season has started. 25,000 people in the town vs somewhere around 100k now. We were just chatting about it and what i was interested in, he asked where i lived, and once i said "about a mile up 29" (which is the street corner the AD is basically on) he immediately took my info and started talking about how they would much rather keep things local than the influx they get once a year. I ended up emailing him later after they closed mentioning how it was nice to chat with him and to reaffirm my interest. From the sounds of his response, i feel like it could be one of those where in the background theyre putting an order in to get it and ill get a call in a few weeks.

If that does go through as planned, when i go to pick it up i may drop a hint that I'd be VERY interested in a batman at some point in the next year or so at MSRP to really stretch their legs.

I saw your post on TRF and I think you should be good to go. Follow up with him every week or two, preferably in person if you can and I think you'll get it sooner rather than later.

That's what i plan on doing. I basically walk or drive by there several times a week, so it shouldn't be an issue.

picked this diver up

What to do when your wrist falls under in that half link area? 2 links removed it's too loose (slips below wrist bone), 3 links removed it squeezes my wrist when I open my hand

Would really like to avoid a leather strap as I think it takes away from the watchs' aesthetics

Cause Breitling/AD will charge waaaayyyy too much, and you don't know what they'll replace. Usually they're trained to replace anything that isn't perfect anymore, this can include dial, hands, case,… So for all you know you send in your watch just to get it serviced and a new hour hand, and you get a totally different watch back, of which a few parts of the original have been reused, with a $1-2kUSD bill. Best get it done by a competent independent watchmaker who just services the movement. Since it's such a heirloom, it's okay to wait until you find a proper watchmaker. For best results I'd advise you to source the hour hand yourself, as watchmakers have a stock and will have something, but it might not be the perfect/original match. If you look for it yourself, you have a much better chance of fixing it correctly

New to the community, but this is what I'm finding also. Paying out the angus for a bunch of stuff you wont want and horror stories of the watching coming back with all new components and polished like new. To me, i would just want a "tune up" to ensure the movement is sound. The scratches, scuffs, and eventually patina really make the watch have character.

recently picked up an AP authorized dealer as a client. This puts me in a position to make a new purchase of something that is in low supply and high demand. Any thoughts on a 15500?

About to start shopping for a sub. Really torn between date and no date, but anyway, am I really going to have to wait months and months? Waiting lists? I live in NYC area and literally every other guy I see walking down the street wears a rolex. Any other things I should be aware of ?

If you don't already have an established relationship with an AD, you'll probably be waiting a while. Go talk to them and see what they say. Every dealer is different.

This. I'm in a similar boat. Went and talked to my AD in person, said i was looking for an Air King or Exp 1, took info, chatted, then followed up with an email. Will be visiting this weekend again. I'm a local in a tourist town during tourist peak, so they seemed very appreciative.

I'm a little old school that way. Went to an AD in person and got my PO for a good price. Would rather have 0 concern about authenticity and be able to go smash someone's skull kn person if need be

I think the subs come in regularly. Have you called all of the ADs within your area and let them know you would like to purchase one? When I pop in, occasionally I do see a black sub as well as a DSSD in the case.

Perfectly ok with this. Is it a little annoying…yes. But it's nice to know that the moment i walk out the door the watch doesn't drop 50% in value.

Ive noticed people who go in, chat up their AD, seem authentic, and have an actual model in mind seem to get things fairly quickly.

First time viewing this thread - going to be buying a Z Blue Milgauss around December. I could buy it now but I want something to keep my motivation up while I try to change careers. Will be my present to myself. I work a short walk away from the diamond district in manhattan so I may try to barter there - but Im also lurking the rolex forums classifieds.

Real big fan of the Datejust 41mm as well. Probably will be my 3rd watch for the end of 2020.

Currently have a Speedmaster Pro.

Why have a milgaus and a DJ? They are basically the same watch except for anti magnetic features on the milgaus. Im a huge fan of my DJ41. Fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet looks amazing.

Unless you are a "preferred customer" (big spender + consistent or famous), the wait list is just a polite way for them to tell you to get lost. If you have enough money, you can pay a premium and get whatever you want from some flipper. I'm not a huge fan of false scarcity as a customer, but it does seem to be working out for them.

DJ also has a date. Some people like the Milgauss because of it's quirkiness I guess, but I find it too chunky because of a feature that I don't even care about.

Im not sure yet - will probably be a game time decision. Most likely will be from a well known forum member on Rolexforums. Ive already built a short list of members w/ substantial feedback. If I do go to an AD it will probably be Wempe or Hamilton Jewelry in Princeton NJ (have a history with this business).

Back to the DJ41 - typically I would buy the subdued oystersteel bracelet w/ blue face w/o fluted bezel but this one is gorgeous:

True, my preference will probably change by the time Im ready to get the DJ41. As a poster said below me - the quirkiness of the Milgauss draws me in. Obviously its not as popular as a sub, but I like that I dont see it on the majority of wrists.

More of a joke. lol. I stopped in to my AD this afternoon to visit again. Salesman I talked to 2 weeks ago of course was off today. But chatted a few others anyway. They said they'd let him know I was in and still interested.
