Yeah lots of people had him as the #1 Center in the class. The fact that he was that young was impressive too but he just can't seem to put it together. A center just simply shouldn't be knocked over by a lineback with one friggin hand.

I thought Brandon Thomas did ok last game? Just what heard though.

MM is trash. They need to let Tiller be backup center. If he starts at RG just move him over if Kilgore goes down.

Really curious who we keep on the oline. It looks like we could very well cut our 2 draft picks. Insane.

I think the guys this year are PS prime candidates. We drafted with the idea that Anthony Davis wasn't in the picture and that was the wise decision.

Last year they kept 8 OLmen. If we're keeping 8 again this season I would think it would have to be Staley, Beadles, Kilgore, Tiller, Brown, Davis, Garnett and ???

Unfortunately Martin's versatility may give him the edge over other guys but there's a lot of other guys vying for that last spot so Martin needs to take that next step quick. Nothing would be better than him finally having that light go off but time's running out.

Also kind of crazy to think Tiller didn't even make the cut last year. I think we'll definitely have some disappointments this year with cuts. You always want to see your draft picks make the team but we've had so many picks the last few seasons that some of those guys won't make the cut.

Sounds like Anthony Davis got all but 3 first string reps at RG…guess they're actually may be doing the switch. Curious how he does in the game on Friday. Hopefully Beadles can get some work at center to maybe get him backup up Kilgore.

I don't have a lot of faith in our QBs but even mediocre QBs with pass protection look serviceable. Hopefully Hyde stays healthy and the run blocking is on point.

Ya at this point I'm stoked about the OL being that much better than last year, which was a fukin train wreck.

Should be good to see Kap play this week in an actual game. At this point I'm ready for cuts and just want the season to start.

I am about there too. Still need to see how Kap can run this offense. The only thing that sucks about preseason is that there isn't much game planning involved so it is hard to get a grasp with the QB's.

Trying to go to the Pats game, might be the only chance I have to watch Brady in person. Debating to go this Friday, not sure if a pre-season game is worth the trip.

I saw your post and thought to myself damn I should try to go to one of his games because it's always cool to say you watched one of the greats play live…but then i remembered I've been to two of his games with work lol.

Definitely wanted to make it out there for that game but just too close to Thanksgiving and we had plans around that time so couldn't swing it. Hopefully we keep it close but I'm sure he'll be up for it big time. Crazy to think for as long as he's been in the NFL this is his first game in the bay area vs the niners.

I'm drawing a total blank but I'm pretty sure we signed someone once Kap went on the IR. Thompson maybe?

Speaking of the QB competition anyone find it funny how many conflicting stories there are regarding the situation?

You have a bunch of people reporting that Gabbert is the starter and this was never really a competition. Then you have people saying it's a legit competition and I'm pretty sure i've seen some stuff where Chip Kelly is just begging to give the job to Kap and just waiting for the chance.

IMO I think it's the middle one. I can't find the article now but I think I mentioned it earlier ITT. If the plan was for Gabbert to be the starter Kap's injury and missing the two preseason games would be the perfect opportunity to give Gabbert the job and really nobody could complain…but that didn't happen.

I appreciate that and I think the players appreciate it too. When a coach says there will be a competition and tells each guy involved that they'll have their chance to earn the starting job then doesn't follow through with the promise they won't trust him. He's doing what he said and giving Kap an honest opportunity and I think it can make both guys better in the process and buy Chip some gold stars from the rest of the team.

I think this preseason game is very important for Kap and he needs to stand out but I don't think it's so cut and dry as if he goes 15 of 16 for 150 yards 2 TDs 0 INT and 60 yards and a rushing TD that he automatically gets the job.

I think the coaches want to see him execute the plays properly, they want to see him make the right reads, make the right calls at the line, etc. We all know Kap has some jaw dropping splash plays where he can get out of the pocket and launch a perfect pass down the field for a TD but while it's awesome as a fan to see that stuff it may not impress the coaches because on that particular play he could've sensed pressure way too early, miss a wide open receiver because he misread the defense or wasn't aware of the play properly and essentially made a broken play of his own doing turn out ok. Why would they not like that? Because more times than not those plays don't succeed but if you're consistent in your reads and making the right calls and getting the ball where the play calls for that will lead to a lot more success than failure.

So very possible Kap could have a mediocre stat line but actually impress coaches a lot more than the fans.

I think Kap's injury put him behind the 8 ball and now people are expecting a huge performance from him to take the job otherwise the pro Gabbert camp will be up in arms if he is awarded the job looking so regular.

My view is Chip said it would be equal and he's keeping it that way. I don't think Chip is gonna play favorites if he wants to win he's putting the best out there, we've seen him do that already with cornerback, ILB, OL, so why would QB be different. It's not like its Brady vs Gabbert, Kap and Gabbert are on about equal playing fields considering their most recent years although Kap has more of a career success I don't think that is factoring into the here and now, and it shouldn't.

Media brings up all this BS and conspiracy and in this case I think the situation is different than it may have been in the past, I don't think Chip is a pawn like Tomsula was and Baalke and Jed know Chip knows his stuff and they like what he is offering as a coach, and they don't want to interfere, at least not year one (Harbs wore out his welcome with them, we'll see how Chip does).

That said as long as Kap doesn't look like a complete **** show out there (which I don't think he will) the competition will be close and will probably come down to what the coaches like/want based on things we haven't seen (like practice reps, and genus points about right reads, running the O, etc) and regardless of stat lines they'll make a solid decision on what they feel is best.

I think Humpty and Dave just got fed up with the nonsense that the sportsmisc spews, sometimes I feel like I wanna just not misc anymore cause having an actual conversation is not possible 99% of the time. My posting has gone way down and I pretty much stick to team threads unless I really feel the need to make a comment.

I'm excited for tonights game, wanna see Kap play, how Gabbert does as well. What our team looks like for the "dress rehearsal" game. I would love it if the pass rush showed up like last game, god knows we've been missing a significant pass rush the last two years would be great if we could get that back. Along with that I wanna see how the OL plays with the shuffling going on and also some bubble players and if they perform well or bad tonight.

I know Dave had a big thread in the misc for a while talking about his cooking adventures or whatever. I think he post at least once in the last 4-5 weeks.

Kinda like a big group chat. He's got a bunch of sports miscers on there. Just need an email address and he'll send you an invite. Good way to chat without the trolls around here. Has a phone app and all that jazz.

just google slack, not sure if that's considered as competition for bb since it's not an either or thing.

You guys see NFL Network is cutting into the live feed tonight? Friggin BS…cuz of Bucs vs Browns.

He invited me and I never got around to using it, who's on there and what do you mostly talk about?

So glad I just moved back to the Bay Area for local times and getting to watch the home teams. Job hunting and the prices tho is like why did I move back again?

You should just stream it online if you wanna catch the whole thing, if not they prolly will replay it like tomorrow.

I am just happy that I still get to control the TV during football season. I still sit on the same spot and I do have this thread and game day thread open to check out. I do not know I could attempt to check out anything else.

Here are my first thoughts on who will be cut this week:

OL: Norman Price, Blake Muir
WR: Devon Cajuste, Ryan Whalen
RB: Kendall Gaskins (bottom of the totem pole)
TE: Busta Anderson (liked his hype), Je’Ron Hamm

OLB: Jason Fanaika
ILB: Wynton McManis
DL: Demetrius Cherry, B.J. McBryde
CB: Prince Charles Iworah
S: None

That would be a start. Most of those guys I don't even know, so it is same to assume they are gone or PS.

Who the hell are our starting wideouts? Also, I'm super excited to see Kaep unleashed this year. I've still got plenty of love for the guy, although he needs to pull it together if he wants to stick around

So Gabbert starting, looking to see a good game from Patton or Ellington need some positive signs.

I wanna see Kap tho mostly and a semblance of a pass rush, also for the Packers to not go in dry on offense with the 1's.
