He's had ball security issues all year, that's a fact. Yeah it's good that he limited to 1 turnover but still a turnover. Had 3 in the big game vs Seattle
There's nothing wrong with being critical of Jimmy G. He's been playing ok, good at times. But you guys are getting a little homer for him at times
The whole counting his NFL starts thing has to stop it makes us look retarded. No one cares at this point, he's starting on a playoff team, his expectations have risen
I think this Saints game is very winnable. They are just not a scary team this year. I think we light Brees up with 5+ sacks

#10 - QB Rating
#6 - Completion %
#13 - Yards
#8 - TDs
#7 - Y/A
#1 - 3rd down conversion %
#10 - INT(the bad one)
Yes he's turned the ball over more than we'd like but I do think you're being overly critical of him(and I'm not even sure that comment was directed at you btw)
Blaming a guy for fumbling in those weather conditions when he's trying to tuck the ball away as he's getting tackled by one guy only to have another defender punch the ball out from behind him is an overreaction.
Obviously nobody will say it wasn't a big play that hurt us but nobody was open on the play. Do you want him to just fall at the first sign of pressure and not try to make a play? He's made several of those for us over the years.
Jimmy is still a young starter. 22 career starts, one year post ACL injury and we haven't had a lot of games where we needed him to air it out and he's still 13th in yards.
You're talking about him sometimes like you're expecting perfection and I get that we all want to see that out of our QBs and I'm certainly swearing up a storm when he makes bonehead passes or turns the ball over but it's all perspective.
Jimmy hasn't played like MVP level but he's played pretty darn well. He definitely wasn't the issue in the Baltimore game. He was in the Seattle game but few QBs would've looked good in those situations.

I wasn’t calling you a brand new fan. I’m saying you have the same reaction that a lot of new fans have. You expect perfection from a team that was the second worst in the league last year.
It’s okay to be critical of Jimmy, but the guy had one fumble in terrible weather on the road where he was getting sacked by multiple dudes. It happens. Happened to Rodgers against us on SNF on the first drive and the ball wasn’t slippery for him.
“Nobody cares.” I do. Because I know Jimmy hasn’t had a lot of game reps in his career. I know he’s going to get better over time. So I don’t expect him to play like an all-pro just because the team is playing great. You have wild expectations like a lot of the average fans do where now because the team is the #1 seed you expect them to be elite every game, every play.
We have above average QB play for the first time in a long time and people still aren’t happy. It’s cringe.

If we go out and just get out played / out talented its one thing, I can't be upset about that. But I also know what the team is capable of. Last year we were in a lot of winnable games. The stats may have said 4-12 but we were playing like an 8-8 / 9-7 team and so many of those losses could have easily been wins
When we lose due to little things like bad play calling 2x on 4-1, missing field goals, that stuff is annoying because its stuff we can control.
That 1 fumble was very costly. Yes I get the rain and everything else but that gave them the short field that led to the immediate TD
Overall we looked like the better team. We can beat absolutely anybody as long as we don't beat ourselves

Its fair to complain about Jimmy but people take it too far. He's right on the cusp of being a top 10 QB. Niners haven't had a top 10 QB since that one glorious year with Kap but before that it was in the 90s.

I saw a bunch of people on twitter putting the loss on Jimmy because of that fumble. Like not "man Jimmy's fumble really hurt us" but straight up "Jimmy cost us this game because of that fumble" because yes a fumble in these conditions in the first quarter when the team is up 7-0 is what cost us the game.
Or after his 4TD/2INT game and game winning TD drive vs Arizona some people were calling that performance "inexcusable"….that's going to another level of insanity.
We all want a QB who is the mix of Tom Brady/Joe Montana/Steve Young in their prime but even that guy wouldn't be perfect.
There has never been a QB who has never made mistakes, especially early in their careers.
Maybe seeing Patrick Mahomes has given people a false sense of what a good QB is but Mahomes is playing with one of the best offensive rosters in the game but we've seen glimpses of what he looks like when his OL is beatup and some of his playmakers are out and it's not this perfect QB who puts up Madden like numbers.

Just little stuff that is correctable that we just can't let happen come playoff time if we want to go to the SB.
Jimmy I think is probably top 12 right now. We are just in a "Must win now" mode I think.

The 4th down play also was questionable. On second look I understood why we passed the ball but by going shotgun there the threat of the run is minimized.
Oh well time to move on.
Definitely in must win now mode. Really our playoffs have started. We lose to New Orleans and we better be prepared for a grind because at this point I'm not seeing Seattle losing another game until week 17. We'll see if we can beat them at their house, I believe we're still the better team and Seattle has been crazy lucky including our game where Kittle was out and Sanders got hurt early so did DJ Jones who was wrecking their OL. His loss will hurt vs NO as well.
It's simple for us. We keep winning and we're the #1 seed. I think that's huge for this team. Not only does it guarantee you a game beyond the wild card round but the biggest thing for us with all the banged up players we have is that critical bye week.
I think the team understands that and hopefully they come in with a great game plan against New Orleans and get the key W up there, come home to take care of business vs Atlanta and the Rams and then punch Seattle in the mouth week 17 then rest up. If we're healthy we can beat anyone.

I think this team beats any other team on the road as well but the bye week to get healthy is the most important

Idk if you guys saw this or not, but Doug Gottlieb was on the Cowherd show and when he was talking about the Pats missing Gronk he was saying how he was not only a great receiver but a great blocker and how none of the top tight ends right now are like that. He specifically said, “George Kittle, not much of a blocker.”
Just goes to show you how these talking heads don’t watch as much as they act like they do.

And he tweeted doubling down on his stupid take after he got called out a bunch.

Another interesting chart when it comes to Jimmy
Does kind of show how impressive Wilson has been despite the lack of protection. Lamar has had terrific protection this year in comparison but clearly from our game his running ability affects how teams can play him.

Honestly if Staley is going to play I hope he's 100% because Cam Jordan is a beast and we can't have a replay of what happened in his game back against Seattle - if he struggles I hope he's man enough to pull himself(hopefully that won't be an issue)
Saints secondary is pretty good so I think Kittle and Juice will have big games in the passing game.
Hopefully our DL gets back to hunting QBs and Brees either is forced into some bad throws/turnovers or he holds the ball long enough for us to get to him to disrupt their offense. Obviously have to make sure Thomas isn't hurting us and force the other guys to do it.

Brees does get the ball out pretty quick, Rodgers takes a lot more sacks but hopefully our DL does their job. Good to see Dee Ford and DJ Jones practicing. Hopefully they can stay healthy because we'll need them both to play well to win this one. Nicky Bosa needs a recovery game as well.

Brees does get the ball out but not a single pocket passer has survived the 49ers this season so the odds are against him.
Also, getting the ball out and getting it caught are two entirely different things against this defense.

The offense (except for that terrible game against the falcons) has been steadily improving each week. Kamara is still a little banged up so hopefully we can feed the hot hand, whether its Alvin or Murray. 49ers pass defense is great, but they have shown some vulnerability against the run, which is what the saints were doing really well with Bridgewater at QB. Brees has definitely made the offense better, but we have been running the ball less since he game back. If we can average 4.4 yards per carry, i think we could edge this game out on the niners.

Saints run defense is really underrated. if we can stop your fast RBs…especially the outside sweeps and force Jimmy to beat us, we have a good chance. Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams are having really good years at the safety position. Our LB core is banged up, but Davis is playing lights out. He's one of the top rated LBs in the league right now. Our defensive Line is playing out of their minds right now. If we stop the run and get to Jimmy, i could see us causing a turn over.
I could also see a blow out happening from either team (srs). I'm hoping to see a vintage brees game, but really its anygiven sunday. this game will be like a playoff atmosphere in the superdome. I wish i was there live to experience it. last time i saw saints vs niners was in Santa Clara. It was pretty lopsided and half the stadium was leaving with 9 minutes left in the game lol. Looking forward to this one!

Regardless, I'm expecting this to be another top five game of the season for the entire league. Just like against the Ravens and Seahawks. All of the top tier teams are playing so well.

There was one play a couple weeks ago where we had the panthers QB on a big sack on 3 & 8. Davis had the QB wrapped up. Cam Jordan comes up and basically punches the QB and gets called for a personal foul. Now, it wasn't dirty- he was trying to get the ball out, but he should have seen that the QB was clearly getting sacked. Instead, they get 15 years and a first down, and go down and drive another 6 minutes and a TD. frustrating to say the least.

Glad we hung close in the Ravens game, but mad we lost. It was like Seattle in closeness but minus the sloppy play, weird considering the conditions.
We made too many mistakes to beat them, the fumble was a huge let down after our start and gifted them insanely good field position and was an extreme game changer. On top of that the clock management before the half was piss poor. We wasted so much time doing nothing when we had timeouts and an offense that was moving the ball. The result was a nowhere near close kick (Robbie wtf dude) and also had a huge impact on the game considering we lost by 3 and lost some big time momentum there.
I also didn't like that on three 4th down attempts we passed. The sneak worked the first was a TD, second was a PI in our favor and the last cost us the game. I think thats a time to mix it up, go for run, at least fake it and get a better call in there. KS acknowledged it too and he needs to be on top of those things a bit better.
I love that the defense played very well, but I didn't like that we seemed to not key on LJ as the main read. Let the edge guy go after him and the linebackers cover the RBs. I did not like at all that he had so much free space on basically every play because we were not keying on him. Other than that we played well, would have liked more pressure but our coverage was pretty solid.
I would love a rematch with them and think that maybe Saleh may have been holding back a bit in case we do considering how much we did NOT change from our normal game plan and scheme against them.
The injuries keep piling up but hopefully nothing that we can't deal with and that those guys and anyone else gets healthy soon and no other injuries come along.
Pissed that Seattle is a top the division considering we should have beat them but we need to take care of our own games and let the rest fall into place on its own. We should beat the Saints. I think if we can jump out early like we did against BAL and many other teams that we can take the crowd out early and it should be fine for us. Yes they are a good team and have a big home advantage but I think we are better and haven't seemed bothered by playing on the road at all this year.
Brees being a pocket passer is going to be rough for him and I'm looking forward to seeing the team playing in another big time game and seeing how they respond after a close loss last week.
Dee Ford is practicing so hopefully he'll play on passing downs. I just hope the game doesn't come down to kicking. Gould hasn't been his trustworthy self this year and is our weakest link. Maybe he'll get back on track playing in a dome.
I'll be at the game.

I can't wait for this game. WE need the win in the worst way but I'm just excited to see us playing top level teams so we can really evaluate where this team is this season.
Honestly I thought 10 wins was shooting high this season and we'd probably hoever around 7-9 to 9-7 range. So the fact that we hit 10 wins by week 11 is insane. Hell despite losing last week and going from #1 to #5 seed we're still tied for the best record in the league.
We're the 2nd scoring offense in the league
We're the 6th in yards gained offense in the league
We're 2nd in points allowed on D
We're 1st in yards allowed on D
I thought our defense could make a big jump from last year to this season but holy chit…did the biggest homer among us expect this?
It sucks that one of our loses was to Seattle who happen to have the same record as us giving them the division right now but while as fans it's good to watch the scores and hope other teams lose we're still in a position where as long as we win, we're in the drivers seat.
Hope the team is ready to go for what is essentially a playoff type game. I think they were ready for Baltimore but just couldn't quite handle Lamar's ability in the rain and their guys just made some plays in the end that we couldn't overcome.
On the road you have to play clean games, play sloppy vs good teams and you're unlikely to win. Hopefully we get our clean game in New Orleans although with their crowd noise in that dome it won't be easy. D will have to ball out and protect the offense. Hopefully Jimmy plays clean, smart and great. We get this one and I think we're going into Seattle 13-2.

If you’re staying, PM your location and I’ll send you some spots to hit up. I know you’re from MS so you may be familiar with the area already. I live a couple blocks from the dome so let me know if you have any questions.
Saw a good bit of niners fans already here yesterday.

Chit…sounds like Armstead may have gotten injured in practice. Reports say he walked off the field with trainers and we should know more in a bit.
It's crazy to think that the way his career started but the guy has been a beast for us this season and we need him out there. Can't afford to lose guys on the DL, especially not a guy like Armstead who has been the dude with Ford ailing/out.
Hopefully it's nothing serious and they're just playing it safe.
edit: good news, just a vet day. Boy the Matts made it way scarier than it had to be until the coaches gave the update.

Awesome city to vacation.
Sunday will be great. One thing I love is it being on of the few cities the stadium is in their downtown.

Cool chart that can be adjusted by week to week basis.

Currently we have the best EPA in the league, just a bit ahead of the Pats and Baltimore.
