cutting the board into 3 pieces is 2 cuts…..if the first one took ten minutes, so would the second cut……equaling 20 minutes total

the math problem is so horribly worded. the student was right in thinking 1 cut = 10 mins, 2 cuts = 20 mins, and the teacher saw it as 10 mins for 2 pieces = 5 mins per piece. 3 pieces makes it 15 mins.
When it comes to the NHL thread I'm the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

so square board. cut in half. 10 mins. then cut one of the halves in half in 5 if you cut perpendicular. blah blah blah

it was written for children. what do they know about power tools? if taken from a math on perspective, the teacher solved for minutes per piece when the kid solved for minutes per cut.

Teacher is correct, although it's a crappy question, worded strangely.
