Yep, ANOTHER was the key word. If the question was to saw into 3 pieces total…it took 10 minutes to make one cut (make 2 pieces), so it would take another 10 minutes to cut one of those halves in half, creating 3 total pieces.
Teacher is correct, although it's a crappy question, worded strangely.

0 minutes 1 board 1 piece
10 minutes to cut 1 board into 2 pieces
20 minutes to cut 2 boards into 4 pieces
The question asked how long would it take to cut 3 pieces.
Since You cant cut boards into non multiples of 2 with only 1 cut per board it takes the same amount of time to cut 3 pieces as 4 pieces. So 20 minutes is correct and the teacher who marked it wrong who thinks its 15 minutes is wrong.

the whole thing behind that teacher question is that he/her, the idiot teacher, thinks it takes 2 cuts to get 2 pieces and not one. he even work through it dividing the 10 by the two cuts when it should have been 1. so to cut another piece of wood to get three pieces would take 3 cuts by his logic not 2.
my point is, the problem is only worded incorrectly for the teacher's answer and not overall, general you phucking idiot!!

by her logic, just because the board is shorter, the less time it takes to cut through it… sigh…
