My point is if you can't really live life which does cost money I hate to burst your bubble then you're better off working.

Let's put it like this. You are 40 years old with 1.5 million allowing you to withdraw 60k per year. You have these 2 options given that situation:

Scenario A: Keep working 40 hours each week and use your vacation time take 2 trips each year traveling to expensive locations like Europe or exotic islands staying at luxurious resorts and doing once in a lifetime activities like seeing the Great Pyramids or skiing the Alps or sailing on the Mediterranean for a few weeks.... whatever floats your boat

or

Scenario B: Retire early, sit around reading, playing video games, or cleaning your house every week with 3-4 road trips in the US to Myrtle beach staying at Holiday Inn for the next 40+ years of your life... because 60k to spend per year really won't go that far and allow you to do much more than that. But you are retired YAY mission accomplished!

Which of these sounds better to you? Who do you think actually lived life more in the end? The guy working in scenario A
Not everybody wants the same things. I've travelled enough for 1 lifetime. It holds 0 appeal for me.

On the other hand I really like gardening, cooking, working out, reading, and investing. These things cost essentially 0.

My parents are the same way. They are in good health sitting on millions of dollars, retired. I've tried to convince them to spend some of it on travel before they get too old but they refuse. They prefer to volunteer at their church, garden, take free university classes, run a small dance club, play cards, spend time with friends and family, and volunteer on their condo owner's association board. Despite having a low 8 figure net worth they live on my dad's social security check.

I do think society overrates travel. I love where I live so I don't feel a strong desire to travel, but I still enjoy it in moderation. and I love not having to worry about money when I do. I see people taking 5am flights with a shit layover to save $100. fuck that.

You can also throw in things like spending time with family, helping elderly parents, plenty of time to learn in detail about things you're interested in, nature, trails, exploring the area you already live, swimming, basketball, sauna (😁), bars if you like on a random wednesday, smoking if you care to partake, etc, etc.

Hell, my normal relaxed paced might make the typical "gym session" last 3-4 hours...7 pull-ups, walk around the track a bit, swim, sauna, steam room, talking to people, long hot shower, no rush getting dressed. The worker bees on the other hand come in like they're on meth trying to squeeze a workout into 30-45 minutes.

I worked hard on my business early so I can take it a bit easier now, and enjoy the fruits of my labour. I'd still be working my ass off if I didn't meet my girlfriend, but now I can share my wealth with her, and her with me - she's recently been promoted in her job which brings in more money again. I'm looking to get out around 50 and spend the next however long enjoying life - we live very comfortably now, but part of what makes our downtime so good is the fact we spend a bunch of time working so it's like a reward of sorts. If I spent all day every day living my lifestyle and not working (I could now, but like money too much) I'd end up bored as fuck after the first two years.

Plenty of places you can travel that aren't all that expensive for the times you just want to get away. Talked to a dude in the sauna the other day that travels all over the world...he liked Brazil...said the women are beautiful and he lived on like $50/day.

kinda smart if they get it...even if getting out of the system takes being unconventional. tons of people out there gave their life to unrewarding work until 65-70 only to have a pretty basic existence once they were used up.

bingo...the option to travel is just icing on the cake if you can make it happen. i think a lot of the worker bees just cope by having travel as the carrot on a stick to keep them going.

i'd rather live like a middle class college kid that only travels once in a while than have to pull myself out of bed day after day for decades for mostly unrewarding work.

if you do the cool stuff too much it'll start to become less cool. my cousin made $70-80+ million playing ball but even he and other players he's friends with settle into relatively normal lives.

really depends on what you like. a lot of people (especially with age) don't fall for hype as easily. for example the people i know with money that are now 50+ don't really live anything like miscers envision themselves as living with similar money.

You literally outed yourself being Indian in the other thread but your Indian cousin plays pro sports with a career banking $80 mil? I had no idea cricket players could make so much.

The retire early vs keep working debate has a lot to do with how much you like your job and how well your paid for it people who make 6 figures wfh as a finance manager will probably work as long as they can but a public servant who makes 70k a year has a pension and has to deal with terrible stuff all day or a tradie who does hard work should probably want to retire asap before the job kills you.

Don't worry you exposed yourself as a clown many hours ago today and no one is impressed by it. Already stumbling over your conflicting posts about being Indian and your cousin making $80 mil playing professional sports to the point you're deflecting instead of addressing the posts.

Add it to the list of wanting lower standards to be alpha, coping you are happy being poor, and being a no avi non-lifter kind of kill your chances of ever recovering against me.

Not going well bro. What's the next move? Please unleash this epic clowning so we can all witness it.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."
