Given that I am already 43, I am basically too old to join any branch of the US military. I will answer the question anyway; $300k for the 6 months.

I know a guy that worked as a appliance technician at sears his whole life right up until age 49, joined infantry and did that until he hit 60 which is when they force you to retire. he even had a burger gut but was a brute from years of manhandling fridges and stoves

said was best choice he ever made cause just when his life seemed to be declining/winding down he got to see a whole new world and travel
Trust me when I say, the FEDs are watching.

I just met a guy the other day who joined reserves in his mid 40s. he wont be able to do 20 before he gets kicked out at 60. he wants to retire from his civilian job in the next few years and go on long term active duty orders. from what i can tell hes pretty rich, he said he just always wanted to do it and waited too late. im pretty sure it required an age waiver to join

Not a good discussion topic. If it were something like Russia VS Ukraine where it's a meat grinder with high casualties, then it's a discussion.

Being in the US military even at war isn't any more dangerous than crab fishing in Alaska or working in the oil fields. People do the later all the time without blinking an eye.
