Foam roll
Core strengthening
Proper warm up before lifting

You're better off doing more reps with lighter weight with perfect form over trying to pull heavy with sub par form and risking injury

Fuk heavy deadlifts. I could pull in the high 400s for a while and I never noticed anything from it with my physique. Hardcore pullup crew now and my back looks much better than it ever did when I was all about deadlifting

Welcome to snap city OP. Currently residing here atm with my lower back. I don't think it's slipped disc or anything, just strained it.

At my absolute strongest I pulled 460lbs so gonna say peace out forever to deadlifts

All comes down to what you want in life.

If you're only goal is to win a powerlifting contest and nothing else matters, than roll the dice, lift super heavy and use preventative measures and just pray it doesn't happen to you (IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE REGARDLESS OF FORM WITH BIG WEIGHT)

If you rather be injury free, there is no reason why you need to go above 225. In which case with proper technique, precautions and form it should be relatively safe.

FACT: You dont need squats or deadlifts to get big legs.

FACT: If you do either, heavy. You risk injury to your tiny lower back muscles (or worse case spine/nerves)

IMO Lower back injuries are the same class as shoulders and knees. (Knees - Back - Shoulders in that order) they just never really full heal to as they were pre injury.

I deal with people daily, you wil be FLOORED by how many men i see between 50-60 whom lifted weights as kids and had an injury in their back, stopped lifting did the family thing and one day just twisted it wrong and it was game over.

Its always no avi's or skinny fat 30 year olds who get deadlift injuries, its not a lift for people who dont have the motivation to search "how to deadlift" and watch a 4 minute youtube video for the sake of their health.

I ignored my muscles telling me they're tight and went for a heavy lift 2 weeks ago. On my last rep I felt tightness from my calf up to my lat.
Nothing but mobility work and rest for me now. I tried to lift around it but kept aggravating it.

I'm nearlly pain free and I've learned my lesson.

There's some exercises I just dnt fuk with anymore. Plus I always go light.

Yes if you have proper form you're good to go but all it takes it one little slip up especially with heavy weights.

I already have enough damn injuries.

What would say the problem was? Going too heavy? Bad form? Distraction could do it

I have a desk job, so I sit a lot. Also, I play poker and I'm on the computer at home. All these years of sitting contributes to lower back pains.

But after learning how to brace and performing mobility work, I feel so much better.

I blame it on instagram and internet fitness culture. Everyone who joins the gym thinks they should be loading up 3, 4, 5 , 6 plates and yanking it upwards as hard as they can.

Are you competing in powerlifting? If yes, deadlift.

If no, do not deadlift.
