I realize some engineering majors can be different or eccentric yet still smart but wtf was HR thinking hiring a brah with purple hair? Is it some form of PC discrimination these days?

Every generation has had these types. The only difference today is that the younger generation has been raised that what they feel like doing is more important than what they need to be doing. It's bad enough that kids do this anyways, but when they are being allowed to get away with it by those who are suppose to be setting them straight, it's so much worse. Now he's in the real world. Hopefully he's a fast learner.

The guy should know his place but stand up and most team meetings as a intern/ noob are utterly useless srs.
People speak gibberish during them but you would waste everyone's time if you had them explain what they mean.
As an intern, by the time you do understand what's going on, it will be August and too late to do anything.
what company is this btw?

look at it from his point of view. the kid is probably a genius who is just going through the motions and has no desire to work with idiots like op, but he needs an internship to graduate, so he goes there "to learn" but he probably already knows more than you guys do and it would irritate me to have to get up and pretend to be on the same level.

What OP and his company needs to do is throw everything they can at him until he either grows up or taps out. Don't fire him, he will just justify himself as the victim.

So we all gather in a standing circle, and this guy is sitting in his chair on the edge of the circle. Our engineering manager asks him nicely to stand up like everyone else. He refuses and makes a smart remark about how he's comfortable sitting. Then the manager asks nicely again. He still refuses. Third time the manager says "No, I'm serious, you have to stand up." getting a little more stern.
The kid says, and I kid you not, "Are you bullying me?" - one of the senior engineers looks at him puzzled and says no, we're all standing. Eventually he begrudgingly stands up. I was shocked; never saw anything like this in my 10 year career. Acting like a spoiled little brat; idiot just signed away his offer for a job at graduation.

Not sure why people cry about it, I make money off the retards of my generation, love having weak cuckolds for competition. Instead of bitching look at it like an opportunity

Why doesn't your boss fire him? Software engineering interns bring in a minimum of like 15 grand for a summer...this is a lot of money to be wasting on someone who doesn't abide by the rules and whose recalcitrance might end up costing the firm a lot of money.

My generation blows, I'm towards the end of the millennials.
Have friends in internships who literally whine and bish to me about being told what to do by their bosses and I'm just like "u wut m8, what did you expect?"
Just wait until the generation below me comes to age. Can't even imagine

Reminds me of the story I read a few days ago about a bunch of interns starting a petition to change the dress code and then getting fired.
