I call bullsh*t.
So you all make 50K and then some huh?
Seems like you're lucky to make $30K starting out here...Area is rated as top 10 most demanded U.S. housing markets.
If I pay a 25% I will literally be a basement dweller in another house.

Seems like a lot of fake numbers in this thread so either people are lying or the people with real good jobs are the only ones replying or people live with like 2-3+ roommates lol.

The pay rate has not increased with the cost of housing in my state. It's bullsh*t.

The general guideline I hear is keep it under 30%, kinda hard these days and even then it's not like you're gonna have tons of disposable income. But I'm paying about 30% in Sacramento.

I believe the "rule" is ~30-33% of gross.
Mine is right about there, but I'm definitely not staying long-term. If I spent what I'm spending now on a 2BR with a roommate I could have a pretty sweet situation.
Or obviously just get something cheaper.

Keep that in mind if you have alot of insurance/401k deductions from your check.

Yeah mine is about 40% as well, but I got a few things bundled with it; Gym, internets and TV which I don't really watch. Plus it's in a nice secluded area away from pleb douches that want to fuk with my stuff. Plus no roommates.

40% is dumb.
I pay no rent and have no mortgage, own my house outright - because I wasn't dumb enough to spend 40% on rent when I was young.

Also have to take in account where people live though, i live in SC and we've seen some crazy growth over the last few years so although housing prices have gone up you can still rent pretty cheap depending where you want to live.
Brb $700 a month 2 bedroom 1100sqft townhome 3 minutes from work because I live in a ****ty area that is a quick drive to everything

I spend under 20% to have a roommate, a little over 25% if I wanted my own place. It was a tough decision, but I'm glad I went with a roommate. Pocket extra, and we get along fine.
