My hair's about 4.5 inches right now. I need atleast 6 inches before I put the dreads in, so they will be very short when I start. I work in a restaurant now, but I'm applying for few different jobs anyway as I've been working here for a long time and need to make more money. I can't imagine dreads being an issue unless it was a security job or something.

Dreads are horrific on dudes and no ones ever looked better with them. Total eye sore and I would treat them the same as a giant mohawk in my business.

I know, I'm doing as much research as I can. I'm gonna get them done at a Salon to start then maintain them myself as best I can. I know dreads don't really start to mature until about a year after knotting the hair.

All right brah but just realize this isn't really about how you perceive them, it's about how the rest of the world perceives them. Most people already have their mind made up about people with dreads, and just because yours are gonna be super duper neat and tidy with a nice little bow in them doesn't mean that your guests are gonna think you're the exception. People are closed minded like that.

You're probably gonna be asked to shave them or lose your job. It might be okay if you work somewhere were you're not exposed to customers, but as a server you're chit out of luck. Just because they don't have a legit reason doesn't mean they're not gonna come up with something. If they wanna fire you they will, they'll just ask you about it and then make up some chit about you having a poor attitude or whatever.

Do as you wish, but you've been warned. Basically the entire misc has told you it's a bad idea and how they perceive people with dreads, and the rest of the world is mostly gonna feel the same way.

I used to not give a fuk about what people thought about me either but it's pretty impractical for a lot of reasons and you're putting a bunch of unnecessary obstacles in your way for what? To look cool? Are you really that shallow brah? It's a very impractical way to live.
Without the internet i feel like a small rock on the mountain.

I don't really want my posts on the internet tbh ... I'm just legit addicted to posting ... people become addicted to the internet look it up

Youre retarded if you're gonna get them done professionally. Backcombing doesn't work,but it will **** your hair up for sure while loosening on the first wash. If you decide to use wax or something else you'd be an even bigger retard.

Go lurk knottylocks, and then reevaluate your decision. Natural locks or don't bother.

Learning to latch on bigger dreads would be easy. I have about 350 locks and for the first 4 years did most of it myself. I finally make enough to pay a lady now. But yeah a crochet hook and YouTube will be your best friends.
Apple cider vinegar and baking soda for clarification and no gel or beeswax....cuz you don't want buildup.

Im not using wax, that's stuffs horrible. What do you mean backcombing doesn't work? I can still get them twist & ripped in.

Ive seen some very inspiring natural locks on surfers, but that's because of the sea water and natural bleaching. If youre down with that lifestyle, otherwise yes.

I'm not doing them free form though, I don't have the hair for that. I'm getting it sectioned, and was planning on backcombing or twisting them in.

You can express yourself anyway you want, but you need to realize that your appearance comes into play drastically when getting a job. If you're just waiting tables or something, probably not a big deal, but don't expect to get a professional job looking like that.

I don't think it will, I'm testing for the police again anyway. If I make it to the Oral Board then of course I'll cut my hair now. Otherwise I plan on growing long hair, whether or not I put them in dreads. I'm not some fat acne ridden weaboo. I'm a lean muscular decently attractive guy.

i have pretty long hair (afro) and just style it differently depending on the occasion and get nothing but compliments on my hair whenever i go out

No I've considered just simply having long hair, but I'd rather have dreads. I'm not opposed to that though ^^^
