boston here hockey is probably the biggest sport next to football, tied/close with baseball with basketball being third. but all our teams here are popular. except soccer

Whatever the acronym for Soccer is i forget.

That's pretty much the order of importance in the states with some arguing MLB is over NBA. Hockey people like hockey but the general population won't tune in unless it's chicago fans doing their best drake impression and bandwagoning the blackhawks whenever they make a run at the stanley cup. also add in any direct matchup against canada in the olympics or something because americans love a chance to talk sht about canadians whenever possible. i certainly respect it as a sport moreso than baseball and soccer but not really into it myself

I know people in my hometown of Tampa, Florida love it. I love it. Follow the Lightning up here in Ohio now. More fans in florida than here in ohio.

This. Here in Tampa hockey is easily the most followed sport. The Lightning have sold out close to 100 straight games. Once the Bucs become Super Bowl contenders again, that might change.

Then I guess we are thinking a different way about the question. I read it as ppl pay attention to it and love it. I did not think of attendance to games as part of the answer tbh. My daughter has bwen to like 3 games, myself 1, and no one else in the fam has seen one but that doesn't mean we don't love it. Just different understanding really

this- most fairweather fans of any all sports in general. when the teams do good all these teams come out of nowhere and when they do bad...they are GHOST!

i grew up in NY and it was ok just due to the sheer amount of people but when i went up to school in buffalo the person to person interest was alot higher. if you're around western new york its purely football/hockey with everything else playing second fiddle.

In the late 90s I bought the cheapest tickets way up against the back wall and 5 mins in we could walk down and sit against the glass and rarely would anyone care

I live in Dallas and it's actually pretty popular. Stars games are usually sold out or close to it. TV ratings usually suck until playoff time though.

In LA it''s popular when the Kings are winning. Everyone loves a winner. You also have a few die hards and casuals but most people don't care.

When I lived in Nashville it seemed like the Predators were more popular than the Titans. Downtown be poppin after a Preds game .

I'm from Texas, specifically Fort Worth. We don't get frozen lakes and have few ice rinks. I knew 0 people who played hockey growing up. Interest grew in the sport for a couple of years in 1999-2000 when the Stars won the Stanley Cup. Besides that, hockey has never been popular. Hell, I'd say soccer is more popular here.
