Great thread, OP. It's nice to see something positive come out of the misc again. Out of all the things you implemented this year which do you think made the biggest impact?

The decision to manage my state moment to moment was probably number one, the re-writing my ideal life in the present tense every night a close second.

The most impactful moment was actually a lazy day with my gf a few months back. We woke up at 11 and didnt roll out of bed till like 2 pm. We were just chillin for half the day slowly eating breakfast. I hated it, I felt anxious and like a loser for not getting anything done all day, not even getting fresh air till the late afternoon. I didnt say anything to her about it but she could tell something was off. She put her hands on my cheeks and lifted my face up, and said "Hey, stop it. You're doing great. Clock out for once.". Through this year of maintaining a "positive mindset" I started to forget how to relax when I wasnt being productive. I didnt realize how high strung I had become until that moment, when I fully relaxed. For the first time I can remember, I felt completely present. My mind was on nothing but enjoying the moment. I felt kind of an overwhelming gratitude for the fact that I am on the path I want to be on, while getting to spend the occasional day doing absolutely nothing with a hbb with a 10/10 personality. That sentence was the number one contributing factor to my current sense of well being. That sentence made me successful by my definition.

I talk to myself every day like I'm my best friend.

"Yeah, how are you doing? I'd say you're nervous but man, you have done everythign to prep for this and I knwo how much you want it. Let the nerves carry you through and then kill it with all the work you've done. You're so disciplined and committed, you've come a long way man."

Sounds stupid, but people rarely get positive talk every day, so I do it myself. Worked for me this year.
"I remember when I used to throw coins at the end of a girls road into the lake, and used to make a wish for her to love me."

Thoughts and feelings do hold merit, they emit a frequency. and you will match with a reality that resonates with that frequency

Interesting that Donald Trump used to attend church every weekend as a kid, where the pastor used to grill the power of positive thinking into his head constantly. hes done pretty well with it

I started out 2016 with my ex leaving with another guy in November, 7 years invested in that and my amazing child. I weighed 170lbs standing 6'4". I had a very similar starting point to yours, zero idea of future career, minimal connections, no hope of even finding a gf, just me with my brutal situation.

I decided that positive thinking was the only way out. My best friend pushed me to the gym everyday, I stayed positive in every situation possible and now I can't believe how well I'm leaving 2016.

-Amazing girlfriend who is sleeping beside me right now ( she just came into my life at the tail end of 2016.. feels good )
-Solid start to career with everything laid out perfectly to start 2017
-Bought a nice car
-Live on my own in a townhouse
-child is crushing gymnastics and about to start hockey
-peak weight right now is 198lbs and that is so close to my 200lbs goal

Positive thinking is the real deal, I never thought I could be this happy

2017 is the year boyos

only actions matter. no one has control over their thoughts and emotions all the time, but you don't need to because they aren't real. do or do not, there is no try

I need to do something like this over the weekend. 2016 was the worst year of my life and I almost took it at one time but I cant leave my son without a father. I know I can bounce back and make 2017 great I just need to write down short/long term goals over the year and commit to them.

Awesome thread OP. I've done this kinda stuff a lot before only to be derailed but lifes challenges.

2016 has been a crazy year of experience, learning, pain and growth.

Going to be more consistent in 2017 and really start implementing some solid habits and routines. I've got pretty much my dream job in Mayfair central London starting Feb 21st. Looking forward to seeing what 2017 brings!

Repped. Have been doing something similar over the past year and made a lot of progress. Been in a bit of a slump for the past two months or so, negative thoughts and moods creeping in, and this gives me some motivation to get back on the horse.

The big thing I want to work on atm is less drinking. The drinking isn't a frequency problem, it's that when I do drink I drink way too much.

Have read a couple books on your book list already, may add a few to my list.

Holy hell OP are you me?!? I only use this forum for the "every day post 3 things you're grateful for" thread and for some reason felt inclined to check out misc. So glad I did!

Like the OP, I decided to change my mindset this year and have had the best year of my life. Your thoughts most definitely do influence decisions, action, and the circumstances you find yourself in.

-Read
-Surround yourself with positive people, or people whom you consider successful
-Set short term, mid-term, and long term goals

Watch something motivational every morning, take some time to visualize what kind of life you want, and try to feel like you're already living it. It helps you stay on track and make decisions based on the larger goal.

Wall of text version:

My mom goes on and on about the secret and the law of attraction and all that chit, but I've always thought it was stupid. I used to worry a lot and tended to expect the worst when things happened. I was pretty unhappy most of the time and my luck seemed to be terrible. Whenever I paid off something, a new random bill came in the mail. I hated my job, had no idea what I was gonna do with my life, I was lonely, and was anxious all the time. So I set a new years resolution last year to commit to maintaining a positive mindset.

Journal entry from December 31st 2015:

"Why is everything going to ****? What have I done to cause this? I mean, it must me my fault right? We control our lives right? I lift, I hit my macros, I read, I go to work, I'm nice to people, I dont spend money for no reason, yet here I am doing nothing on new years eve broke as **** feeling like ****. I dont get it. I even meditate why the hell do I feel like this all the time? Mom says I'm too negative and I'm gonna be miserable my whole life with this mindset. But she buys into the secret bull****. How is visualizing good things happening gonna change anything??? Makes no sense. IDK a lot of people buy into that ****. Maybe there is something to it. **** it, I dont have anything to believe in, why not just buy into this ****. If anything, it'll probably make me feel better. Ok so whats wrong with my life?
-I'm lonely
-I'm broke
-I have no idea what Im doing with my life
-I want to start some sort of business but I have no fukn clue what to do.
-I need to get my own place
-I need to get school back on track.
-I got laid two times all year.
-I barely see my friends
-I never meet people
-I'm anxious all the time
-My room and car are a mess
-I'm late to everything

Ok so approaching this from the positive visualization way, what do I want?
-Great gf or fun fukbuddies. Prolly not a gf, idk if I want that.
-Pay off debt
-Some sort of direction in life
-My own business/ some independent source of income
-Start going out more
-Chill da **** out.
-Get to places on time

Aright **** it, heres to 2016, year of delusional positivity".

Today

-ZERO DEBT
-Run a business
-Transferred out of Community college!
-amazing girlfriend
-Great group of friends, great social life
-Very rarely nervous or worried.
-Much closer to my family.

What I did

-Every single morning I watched some sort of motivational or uplifting video
-Listened to a lot of podcasts
-Read 49 books directly related to mindset, business, or other topics that interest me
-Glanced at a note in my iphone with quotes or reminders a few times a day

-10 minute worry journal. If something was bothering me, I set a 10 minute timer and wrote out what the issue was, what I could do to fix it, what I cant change, and why it upset me. When the timer went off, I forced it out of my mind. Every single problem I've had this year has had a simple action to take or habit to form, or was not worth worrying about.

-reminders went off on my phone every few hours that said "stay the course".

-Every night before bed, I'd review my day, and re-write a description of my life as I want it to be in the present tense. Usually left me feeling grateful and fired up.

-Whenever something struck my attention, I followed it.

-Whenever I thought I should work on something, I committed to it. Stupid example, I cant draw or write legibly. So at least once a day I'd start doodling, trying to draw perfect shapes and write the alphabet out as well as I could in print and in cursive. I used to be basically fluent in spanish, but I lost some of it. At work I started helping spanish speaking customers and my phone is in spanish. I read spanish wikipedia pages when I look chit up, and I'm pretty close to fluent again.

Coincidences

Two different times this year I got an unexpected bill I couldnt afford at the time in the mail. Instead of stressing, I put it in my folder and said "It'll work out one way or another". BOTH TIMES I got an unexpected check in the mail. One was a class action lawsuit from an old job I quit two years ago. Apparently they broke labor laws that year. That check was $32 more than the unexpected bill. The other time I got reimbursed for a membership I was never able to use. I meant to cancel, I guess I didnt, got billed for two years, and sent an email saying "hey, I meant to cancel this like two years ago, didnt realize I was still being billed. I guess I should pay more attention to my finances. Anyway, I cancelled through the website but just wanted to make sure the cancellation went through. Thanks". ~6 months later I got a check in the mail for the full amount of my two years of membership, which came out to something like $100 more than a medical bill that I wasnt expecting.

I was driving in my city, ran into a friend who had just come back from college. She yelled out to me: "HEYYYY PARK SOMEWHERE IM HAVING A GRAD PARTY!!" I parked, said hi, walked in to a family function. I get in line for the taco stand right behind this HBB. Happened to know her sister, we clicked immediately and talked most of the day. She left, I didnt get her number or anything. Literally the next day I stopped by a mall that I never go to to get my friend a birthday present, and she was in the store. Got her number, and for the last 6 months she has been the perfect girlfriend, there is nothing I dont like about her.

-Found a need in a market and decided to try to fill it. Posted that i was looking for an artist, within 5 minutes got a response. Saw some of his artwork and loved it. Crazy coincidence, this fukn guys hobby is the same as mine and he has big connections in the industry. He showed a sample to his friend, a very well known guy in the industry. The guy pre-ordered 50 units. 50 units per month was my one year goal. I was aiming to hit that by November 2017, but January 2017 is already set with 53 pre-orders.

i could go on and on, I kinda already have.

I cant believe how this year has been for me. 2016 has been the greatest year of my life so far, and the only thing I changed was deciding to buy into the law of attraction. I dont think theres some mystical force that attracts what you think about, I think its a psychological thing that helps you make better decisions and live every moment with the big picture in mind. It seems like you can look at the life you visualize everyday and compare your current behavior with that as the final goal. Whenever you're faced with a decision, you can choose based on what will bring you closer to that life.

As requested: Book list. Read all of em, 49 were from this year.

-I'm late to everything

I learned a lot about myself this past year and I have become very philosophically mindful, but it has also been one of the most stagnant points of my life. I have been 3 credits away from finishing my community college degree for the last year and a half. I've been working the same dead end job for 5 years now, making terrible money and not improving myself in any way.

Very inspiring thread. I've been sitting on a very good business model for a while now. Have yet to implement. But I also wish to transfer to university and complete a full degree. Not sure which I will undertake, but I am making a move real soon.

great book list btw, lots of gems in there that I've been meaning to read. You must have a very expansive mind after all that material

Book marking this thread because this is a gold mine. PLS NEVER DELETE THIS MODS

OP how exactly do you commit to such a positive mind set srs? … I'm the most negative and and pessimistic person out there, always second guessing myself, never believe in my self - just a lot of self esteem issues.

Sounds stupid, but people rarely get positive talk every day, so I do it myself. Worked for me this year.

Thats not stupid, its called positive self talk and its as legit as any other method. Also allows you to be more objective with your assessment of whatever situation youre in. Its a good thing to do.

Congrats on the patent! I'm still new to business but from everything I've read and experienced so far, it seems like relationships are everything. Develop good relationships, under-promise, and over deliver. Example would be quoting 3 weeks ship time and getting it out in 2. Or I had a group who I want to work with, I'm sending them some product. They think its just standard product, but really I put together a custom design for them and they'll be getting their logo and name on the product.

Its athletic gear for a specific market.

Psycho-cybernetics was great for me personally because it took a lot of the woo-woo new agey chit out of the law of attraction and presented the idea as a psychology phenomenon.

Well, I think you do have control over thoughts and emotions. Of course bad thoughts and negative emotions will come, but you can choose not to stay there. You feel it, you recognize it, you do what you can to solve things, and you come to peace with what cant be changed. Then focus on the good.

I try to stick to interviews with people I like, they get me fired up. I think hearing successful people talk about their life philosophies and challenges along the way is helpful. Also, laughing is good.

Its hard to give advice because everyone finds their way through their own journey. Cant go wrong listening to Tony Robbins every morning. Hes great because hes not so much a motivational speaker as he is a strategist.

Psycho cybernetics is all anyone needs. Other than that, just go through the book list i posted and download what jumps out at you I guess.

I purchased them all through the kindle store, so its not like I have pdfs I can just PM you. A lot of books have summaries on youtube that get to the heart of it and free audiobooks. Most of the time if you search "book title pdf" you'll find it.
