On top of the lake, lots of great hiking in North Georgia.

Amicalola Falls one of my favorites




Easy access to rafting up in Tenn for a day if you wanted.

Got ATL right below so all the benefits of a major city are there.

Not too far from the beaches, both in the carolinas or florida for vacation spots.

Even within distance for semi decent skiing with trips to NC close enough to do. I mean it's no Rockies, I been there and I get that. But can get some good skiing in up in NC too.


North GA GOAT place to live.

You'll miss the beaches of course but a 4 or 5 hour drive (if you live in South La) will get you on the beaches in Florida. There are other beaches along the way but IMO Florida beaches are the best in the US.



Some of the cities really suck but some are decent. A single guy without kids making 90K a year will damn near live like a king. If you don't want it to be permanent it would be completely feasible to live extremely well on 60- 70K a year and bank 20k-30k per year... After you get a few hundred grand in the bank or so move to a more desirable location.

OP...It is crawfish season down here. BISHES love crawfish. If they don't then kick them to the curb. But yes......$90k here would be considered a raise due to living expenses. Out here you can get a nice apartment for $1200 (ranging from 800sq.ft. to 1k sq.ft.) 1 bedroom of course.

Wtf at not naming the city? So it's not New Orleans or Baton Rouge?

I wouldn't want to live anywhere in LA but NOLA...which I live now. I've lived in Miami, San Antonio and obscure places like Albuquerque and Gainesville. NOLA is a great place with a lot of culture.

I make $90k base and it's plenty enough to get you in a good spot, partake in the city AND save significant money.

This big time. Shreveport is a nothing city with box stores and chili's etc.

If you have a 2 yr plan, wouldn't be a bad idea but it would have to really include stacking serious money or you'd be miserable. I had this issue once taking a project in middle MS. F that again.

i stayed in baton rouge for 6 months a few years ago.

i actually enjoyed it although the weather could be crazy at times.

Yea man. You needed to be uptown and in the garden district. It's a beautiful place...but 100% agree about the obesity and stupidity.

Also, beautiful women are scarce.

The food and culture are like no other, srs. I left Miami after 1.5 years to come back. But again, that place is a polar opposite.

the south is just a huge chit hole. la, ms, ga, alabama.... but in LA 90k will go very very far. i live in bossier on the other side of the river from shreveport and 90k a year will get you a super nice house. cost of living is normal i guess. food is food, gas is cheaper ect. night life is always nice because it goes all night. i love going out in shreveport... i really don't mind the area. crime isn't that bad or atleast i avoid it well. food is decent.

Comes down to your goals in life OP. Financial and social...age, etc. I've never visited where you currently live but imagine it will be an extreme culture shock and decline in social atmosphere.

I live in opelousas, louisiana. It really isnt a bad place to live at all. Fishing / hunting in decent traveling distance. Like most have mentioned 90k salary here is really good, the hbbs are around, they arn't rampant, but if you know where to look; gyms,churches,fairs,bazaars,sports bars etc you can find something you like. The food is great. Though with that being said some parts of la are ****, I havent read through all of the thread, but I don't think you mentioned where'd you be. Cops where I live arn't really strict on weed unless you have over a certa in amount on you, forgot how much but you can easily find that out on Google somewhere, same with your tax question.

Shreveport is disgusting. If you move to Louisiana move to Lafayette, Baton Rouge, or New Orleans. 90k salary is huge in Louisiana, though.

marijuana laws
any climate factors etc that could affect my car (i.e. if I was moving to Jersey, concerns might be snow and salt...guessing here)

This is close to where my new gig might be, so I value your input, and you are giving me confidence. What do you mean by "it goes all night"? Do bars stay open later than 2AM?

As a single guy, I would definitely not do this unless it were a significant increase in salary or position

I have been around LA many times and lived in small rural towns. I really don't recommend either.

You're likely going to find locals to be really cliquey and even moreso when they find out you're from CA
