Hi, I'm your kid's teacher. Are you Mr. and Mrs. Gregory?
Well, no. I'm Mr. Smith and this is Mrs. Jones. We can't have the same last name because we're childish.

Soo... why doesn't your kid have the same last name as you?
Think about insurance and anything else you'll have to do. It'll be all extra explanations and documentations and more questions you'll get. All just because your woman doesn't like people in your family. Dumb excuse.

Thats a huge problem OP. Not liking your family isn't the excuse to not let your child bear your last name. Unless th kid isn't yours this is unacceptable. Imagine the kid growing up and realize what a cuck his/her dad was for not letting him have your last name. I would not sign birth certificate if that's the case, srs.

Even if you have a chitty family, your family reputation can start with you. My grandparents were highly respected in my city and my dad is kind of the black sheep of the family. However its up to you to make a good name for yourself.

Not sure what's funnier, this situation or the posters thinking they're leaving a legacy. Lol.

I think this is unreasonable as well as potentially troubling in the future. Do you really want a life of trying to explain why your child has a different last name then yours?
With that said you could always do similar to what I did. Long time ago when my late wife was pregnant she kept insisting on naming the (first name) something I didnt like. I patronized her though and would just nod along when ever she mentioned it. I waited till she said her water broke and then said lets talk about this name.... Two days later she was like where did this name come from

It's hard to believe you two are still together considering she literally hates your family that much. I'm guessing family functions are a hoot...

Both parents win, and it's the most accurate representation of your heritage

She's also suggested that if it's a girl she gets to pick all 3 names (first, middle, and last) and if it's a boy I get to pick all 3 names. I said no. Maybe it'd be a good idea though. Why do I care if a girl has my last name. Not like she'd pass it on.
