They just don't make 'epic' movies anymore.

The mid 90s- early 2000s was full of epic war movies (I mean epic in terms of the genre, not how great the movies were). Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, The Last Samurai, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Alexander, Enemy at the Gates, the Patriot, the Lord of the Rings series, King Arthur, Alexander, 300, Letters from Iwo Jima etc. Spiderman started the trend towards superhero movies, and it was pretty much unstoppable by the time Ironman came out in 2008.
What do we have now? The Hobbit? Warcraft? I think a big part of it is the superhero movies can follow a cookie cutter formula that focuses on action and humor and they are usually pretty enjoyable/well done/well received by critics. And they easily make over half a billion dollars. Even the misfires like Suicide Squad can make 3/4 of a billion. Some of the epics were expensive and terrible.

Here's a movie that most probably haven't seen but was definitely pretty GOAT for a foreign film...

I think TV shows are so much better than movies now. With Netflix, HBO and other networks we can now have shows that can push boundaries and not worry about holding back due to censorship. TV also allows for better story and character development.

These old war movies are great.
Also they just added Saving Private Ryan to netflix if y'all care.

Do you think old war movies are what today's younger target audience want to see that film makers will make movies for?

Don't forget the classics.
Ben Hur for example. No CGI there boyo. Just thousands of extras roasting in the sun all day to get the right shot. LOL que??

First, certain themes and styles fatigue the audience after awhile, e.g. Do we need another Braveheart? Secondly, the more times you rehash it, the more it is compared with the last great one, e.g. Gladiator and 300 are inevitably compared with Braveheart.
There ARE "epic" movies out there but they are not historical.
