Yeah there are a few. Im a srs person, but i try not to take everything too srsly. We had one guy call in the other day because he was too tired. I dont like working with ppl like that. Get along with everyone for the most part tho.

Yes. Had a little 8 year old boy visit me last month that i pulled from a house fire about a year ago. Was pretty cool. He wants to be a firefighter. We always like being able to see ppl we've helped. One of the greatest feelings in the world.

You should. Its a great career. I hate dealing with paperwork. Field action reports suck. Also doing pre-occupancy surveys. Obvious other downside iare seeing hurt or dead dismemebered bodies. If your squeamish this isnt the job for you.

Inside connections. It helps if you know someone at the departmenr you want in on a lot. As for your certs. It depends on the department your applying. Some departments have a minimum requirement of fire I and II certs to go along with EMT-B. Some dont but will require it at some point to maintain employment.

Kelly shift sched. I get maybe 5hrs a night on a good night. A typical call can last a good 2hrs. Sucks when you try to go back to sleep and get called out when your just about to nodd off.

Not quite. We had to simulate going through a tube, but it wasnt that long.

Part of my training was to follow a charged hoseline through a giant warehouse where we couldnt see anything and we had to be on our hands and knees. There were quite a few tight squeezes we had to make.

It was pitch black and we basically had to follow the hoseline out of the building. The way you do this is by finding the male end of the coupling and follow the hose line out that way to the fire truck. Some ppl in my class actually had panick attacks doing it.

There are ways to get around tests. A few guys on my dept are not natty. This line of work is very alpha male oriented. Obviously illegal things are frowned upon. But its more of a dont ask dont tell policy.

No height or weight requirement. But the better shape your in the better off youll be. Its nice to make a good impression. Being jacked and in shape is a solid way to achieving that.
