i have an employee who is currently sitting about 15 feet from me

has been with his wife for 14 years, married for 10

two sons

i've known him for 5 years and he has worked at least 60 hours between multiple jobs the entire time.

his wife may have been hot before, but she's a whale now

I think it's important to know what you want out of life, especially if you're on track to live however you want sooner than most. A lot of people reach retirement age, can "do whatever they want", and realize they actually have no idea what they want to do. Did you read "The Four Hour Workweek"? He has a whole section where people are talking about waiting to return so they can (for instance) rent a motorcycle and drive the Great Wall of China, to which he points out that that costs ~$2,000 and you could essentially do it at any time in your life. People who reach retirement and realize they only have a few days worth of activities on their bucket list... depressing stuff.

All I'm saying is it's important that we know what we DO want, not just what we DON'T want. For some all that time and freedom throws their lack of goals into sharp clarity - it's one of the reasons Lottery winners tend to be so unhappy.

lottery winners are like people who use cheat codes in video games. in my case, i would have methodically worked toward it. the people who are depressed during retirement have some form of stockholm syndrome. i'm sitting at a computer right now, but i'd rather be walking around downtown for half the day and then taking a hike in forest park.

Why not both? I'm make bank and have a wife and 4 kids. My wife is a legit hottie and the chit my 5 year old daughter comes up with is priceless. She's tiny for her age, talks mad trash during he soccer games, and will literally make you laugh every second you talk with her. Took her to Red Robin after one of her games, young black brah who lifts is our waiter. He asks her what she would like to drink and she says "I bet you can run really fast, like turbo fast." He looks at me like wtf, and she proceeds to say "cause you look like the Hulk and the Hulk is really fast." Can't wait to get off of work because I am taking her to SkyZone trampoline park, guaranteed lol's will be had.

Nah brah, I think I made the right choice. Taking selfies with my mutt in trashy ass Portland doesn't sound like fun at all.
