Nice. My parents are in Hopkinsville currently... Looks pretty lively downtown.

I feel like traffic could be bad after everyone leaves but the morning shouldn't be too bad.

Just read this and it made me even more pumped up....
However, it is really important for anyone standing within the path of totality – and only those people – to remove solar eclipse glasses during one brief period that only they will experience: totality. Not doing so would mean missing perhaps the most spectacular sight that nature can offer (yes, eclipse people do go on and on about totality, but it is indescribably cool).

So how will you know when it's safe to look at the sun and moon? “It is safe to look during the two minutes of totality, and it will be unmistakable when those two minutes have arrived because the sky will suddenly turn very dark,” says Michael Zeiler at GreatAmericanEclipse.com. “If you're watching with eclipse glasses you will see the crescent of the Sun very rapidly shrink and break up into a series of what are called Baily's beads – and as they shrink to nothing people should take off their solar eclipse glasses and see totality with their naked eye. It will be the most amazing sight of their entire life.”

There will another, clue, too. “Totality is impossible to miss – the people around you will be cheering and gasping, and if you're in a group of people, there will be a cheer that rises, so you will know when the moment has arrived.”

As soon as the Sun begins to reappear, put your solar eclipse glasses back on to view the rest of the partial eclipse.

Good morning peeps.

Alarm went off way too early. We picked a spot and we are going to try a place or two that said they will only give glasses out today then head to our chosen spot.

Two hybrid eclipses, which are the rarest, will happen within a year of each other (lol) in 2049 and 2050, along with another total eclipse in 2024.

Lmao, this is the beginning of the end.

Local library may hold them until today. Science/astronomy centers. Heard some Kroger stores may have gotten late shipments.

And two radio stations @ the Kentucky State Fair @ 9 AM, but that is pretty specific.

No. I don't think so. Maybe if you have some welder's glass and metal working skills.

Those would be some bad azz steam punk eclipse specs.

I seriously doubt it. How would you?

You can google how to make devices that can project the image, theoretically seeing it without glasses, but not looking directly.

Whether forecast is looking pretty good. Still listed as partly cloudy but they're saying the upstate and midlands should be mostly clear. People down on the coast are probably screwed though, I feel bad for the people on the coast trying to head up this way. Columbia is already packed and there are over 2 million extra people in the state. Can't imagine how many people will be heading up 26. It'll be like hurricane evacuations if the roads were already horribly overcrowded.

I'm not heading into the city but can get over a minute of totality in the park right up the street(as opposed to about 2 and a half in the city). I'm just mainly hoping for no cloud cover during that 2-5 minute window leading up to, out of, and including totality.

We completely miss out here in Australia. Not even a tiny bit will be seenWe will get a total one in 2028

Australia will not get to see the total eclipse and Associate Professor Brown said even if you went outside to look at the moon in the early hours of Tuesday, you’ll see absolutely nothing.

“If it wasn’t for the internet we’d be none the wiser,” he said.

The moon’s shadow will barely reach us in Australia because the southern hemisphere will be far away from it when it lines up with the sun and earth.

“Basically it comes down to the size of the sun and the size of the moon. The moon is a lot smaller than the sun and so what that means is the shadow of the moon gets progressively narrower the further you get from the moon. By time that shadow reaches the earth it covers only a tiny portion of the earth,” Associate Professor Brown said
