We are all products of our environments. Growing up if you would let that kind of stuff slide then you were marked as an easy target. It would never stop from there. There is just joking amongst each other and there is trying to make others look bad infront of chicks. The 2nd is a no go. Once you cross that line then you can't complain at how the other person reacts.

This passive aggressive chit will never work. It will only encourage him. You have to embarrass him publicly. Just shut him down hard. People might think you are a dick but they will get over it. Otherwise you will keep having these one on one conversations with him. Make sure to go for the kill shot. Absolutely shame him. Knocking off his hat off his head would be perfect. He would look like a sack of chit fumbling around trying to put it back on, which would expose his bald dome even more.

When he calls you a bitch in front of anybody, with super srs look on face and 1000 yard stare , tell him,, you want to go outside and see who the bitch is.

Example story time: Used to go over to a good friends quite often, he had a couple new friends that were over often,, one time i went over and for one reason or another the conversation turned to him calling me a bitch, i told him dont make me drage your azz out of your apt and whoop your azz in front of your new friends( which he new very well i could and would) ,, awkward moment pursued,,, hence he never tried that shiit again..

Only been bullied once and that was in middle school. Dude was bigger than me and always rolled with his friends. I knew he walked home alone so I waited one day (ducked out of school early) with a tire knocker and beat his legs silly. Never heard from him again afterwards. I think he switched schools.

Well he sees you as a threat and competition within his range level. The only way to beat this is to get on a level of dominance where he'll submit and wont have the courage to compete. Many ways you can go on about this but if you show any lack of confidence you're portraying a sense of weakness he can latch onto. Be confident and simply don't give af about it.
