I agree with everyone else mentioning DBZ, GOAT anime show. I rewatched that show so many times, and I'm not even really an anime fan outside of that show. Cell saga is the best. You might not have the same feels about it as the rest of us though OP since a lot of us are just nostalgic about it since we watched it growing up

Death Note was really good too

Dragon Ball Z or Naruto are endless, and aimed at kids, if you didn´t watched them as a kid, no nostalgia, no care.

I would start with movies, Akira, Ninja Scroll, Princess Mononoke, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Perfect Blue, Steamboy, Metropolis, Golgo 13... all great movies on their own right.

If you've never watched anime in your life (meaning no nostalgia from DBZ, One Piece, Inuyasha, Bleach, Yugioh, Naruto, etc.), then I'd recommend jumping straight into two animes:

Death NoteandAttack On Titan.

They have less explicitly all-over-the-place fantasy, they're mainstream, have fairly modern visuals, and they're easy to get hooked onto.

Death Note is basically a crime/detective/psychological thriller type of anime, while Attack On Titan is an action anime with an existential twist.

I think you'll have a bad experience trying DBZ as your first anime ever, even if it's one of the greatest (if not the greatest) anime.

The most DBZ-like anime I could recommend is Bleach. I think it's the easiest to get into out of all the nostalgic anime.

always wondered how someone didn't watch DBZ as a kid. everyone was into it.

i've probably rewatched it 5+ times since then, and worth it every time even as an adult. dragonball z is one thing I definetly plan on allowing my kids to watch. dragon ball is really good too.

best ones I've seen on adult swim recently was Parasyte. I really liked it. Attack on Titan and one punch man were both good and worth watching, but not really meeting the standards people set for them IMO.

lol don't listen to the DBZ nay sayers. Just don't watch the cheesy Ocean/Funimation dub that most people are familiar/nostalgic with. Watch the original subbed Japanese of DBZ or the Japanese DBKai. They have a much more serious tone to it. If you don't like subs, then watch the DBZKai (Uncut) English Dub.

Most other anime is slow, cringy, and pervy garbage. Dead srs, don't listen to anyone that tells you otherwise. There's some good stuff out there, but the animes that I know will keep you watching are DBZ first, then Naruto (if you ignore the fillers, and the tedious moments in Shippuden), and now OPM. Almost forgot about OPM aka One Punch Man, fuking new GOAT anime srs, manga is good too.

I think one punch man is a great gateway anime as your first

After that you have ;

- death note (40~ episodes)
- attack on titan (2 seasons so far, epic show though )
- naruto (long term, 600+ episodes, great story, many feels)

dont listen to this guy OP. funimation dub with the BRUCE FAULCONER tracks or nothing. faulconers tracks add 100x to the show. When you hear that Ginyu Transformation theme going on, you know **** is about to get real. i've watched other versions and it just doesn't compare.

ain't no1 wanna be watching those japanese voices when the english is available except elitist weeaboos. couldn't believe people actually prefered hearing goku sound like a girl in a language they dont even understand.

and for fuks sake avoid Kai. you need to watch those episodes like goku/piccolo in driving school, and Vegeta/Nappa fuking with a planet full of cockroach looking aliens to get the full experience. if you find the series is too long and fails to entertain you, just stop watching it as it's clearly not something your into. but FUK kai.

Faulconer has some epic character and transformation themes but that's it, most of the soundtrack is overplayed and doesn't set any real tones in the show. Brb playing casual background music in a fight or when a character is dying.

Yeah Goku's voice is better in the dub, but all the other characters are better in the Japanese. Japanese also has better acting and dialogue. I actually used to hate the Japanese like any one else, until I realized it had superior acting and dialogue and I never went back.

Ok listen here. I know whats good and whats not. Dragon ball is not a good anime to start with. Too long amd outdated. Watch it when you have watched other animes first.

The two animes you should absoulutely watch first. Attack on titan and one punch man. Those are the goat beginner animes that are also very easy to watch plus very good.
