I was going to get a burger with cheese but I found out they put KRAFT CHEESE on it. lol serious? Local burger places around here use real cheese from local dairies.
Anyways,$11later I can say the burger is..... OK. I can make a similar tasting burger at home for less money. But why the fuark are people raving about Five Guys so much? Just basic ****, IMO.

No self respecting burger connoisseur will speak of Five guys as a worthy burger.
In London they've managed to pop up in every highstreet. Clearly a better choice than McDonald's but no... Just average stuff.

Don't get me wrong the burger wasn't bad. Fries were good, too. It's just that Five Guys had such a reputation, people talking about great food it all is, but it's really just overpriced and pretty ordinary. I'd rather save about $5 or so and get a burger + fries thatmightnot taste as good, but still be a better overall value.

five guys is all over DC, and what makes it tasty is the 80 percent ground beef and endless toppings. For 8.50 I can enjoy a very heavy filling bacon cheeseburger and be stuffed.
I tried in and out while visiting family in Cali and I was very underwhelmed. No toppings, plain flavor profile. All of this burger war stuff depends on your flavor profile preferences.

I agree that you can get the same quality burger by making one yourself at home. Having said that, if you're not ordering your burger with all the toppings on it, you're fuking up. The toppings are what makes their burgers good.
I say the same thing about Papa John's whenever people complain about their pizza tasting like cardboard. If you're ordering cheese or pepperoni pizza, you're missing out. Need to get the works and dip your crust in the garlic sauce.

Just lol@people saying Smashburger is better, that place is dead 24/7 in my area.
Five Guys is a little overrated, especially since their fries are chit but their double cheeseburger with bacon, sauteed onions and mushrooms is hnnnnng. Freddys is getting really popular here, they make a solid burger but their fries are 100X better than 5 Guys and on par with In-n-Out
As far as places available nationwide, Id have to agree with the guy who said Red Robin, its more expensive but they've got great burgers.

I personally like Red Mill burgers, but it's a smaller place. I think there's only 3 of them

5 guys is overpriced but where else can you get a fresh home cooked burger on the go? Its sit down restaurant quality at a fast food joint. You get what you pay for.
