No. But we are hardwired to feel possessive of our mates.

There might be a few who can do this but it will eventually catch up. Either that or these people are doing other things behind their partners back to be okay with their relationship.

These relationships seem like they are always dominant and submissive. One partner bangs around. The other is "fine" with it.

No thanks Jeff.

I wouldn't care if my girlfriend was banging other people if I could freely bang others as well, if we lived in a world where there were no funky diseases to be had. No thnx due to herpes, HSV, and HIV. Plus the thought of my girl's vagoo having some residual semen from other dudes floating around in it is repulsive.

Is this driven from societal ethics developed from religion and other related evolutionary traits (such as principles of mating)? Any creditable source where it shows direct physical correlation between possessiveness and attraction?

Open relationships can be great if both parties have mutual agreements. All the fun and sex without the drama. However 90% of the time, someone in that open relationship will get jealous and develop feelings. It always happens.

I prefer open relationships because I don't have time for petty drama and "wifey stuff." However, like I stated above, other person got jealous and we ended it for a while. Sometimes I reconnect with a fling, other times I'll just let them be.

I've been seeing my 2 main chicks weekly for over 4 years each. They're honestly too caught up in their careers to even search for other guys but they feel good knowing they have the freedom to do it if they want. Feeling/Being tied down is the last thing most people want in life. 3 of my other girls have been around for 3+ years but I see them less frequently because of distance. Other girls come and go then come back again when other relationships inevitably don't work out for them. You just have to tell them what's what and be in control of your emotions to make this lifestyle work. I travel a lot and the last thing I want is a girl from home giving me grief when I'm away or not being able to smash local girls in other countries. Stopped "dating" in 2012 to answer your question though.

Not sure man, I'd say a mix of both. The religious ethics may be derived from the latter so it may be all just our innate instincts.

I'm not aware of any source because, I think, "possessiveness" and "attraction" can be a bit subjective, hard to measure and would need to be observed over large amounts of times for relationships. Would be a difficult study.

I think it's interesting. We are consistently developing away from our evolutionary principles. Especially with recently arousing power trip from women around the world. Subjectivity is highly driven from social standards

Yes and no. Would argue that certain characteristics in attraction haven't changed, while some may have. But I do agree that some characteristics are heavily driven by society.

I also think that we may "try" to get away from our evolutionary principles, they are still there at the core and shape our decisions.

Very interesting thread man.

While I do agree most of them are not aesthetically pleasing, the essence of counterculture is that they go against the grain. Naturally this implies many characteristics that are perceived "odd" and "weird". But they are important part of a society and often times change the society as a whole

You can never truly say for sure. But we are in the process of artificial evolution. Like dogs are completely artificially evolved species. Being a physically strong provider (hunter) is becoming more obsolete as we speak

Thanks brah. Reps on r/c. I've never labeled my relationships though. I never liked calling them open relationships or poly or anything like that. I like to think I do things differently than most of the people who are in those kind of situations. I'm on one-on-one relationships that tend to be better than most people's relationships but I have to have more than one at a time because of who I am. It's complex.

I also never liked the titles of "boyfriend/girlfriend" because of the ownership vibe it gives off. Being owned/tied down is something I'll never be.

The only way I can see an open relationship working for most people is if it's only open on the man's side, like in those cases where the couple brings in a girl for a threesome. The problem though is that the type of woman who would agree to that generally isn't relationship material.

Anyways, throughout history it's usually been allowed for men to have multiple wives and/or mistresses, although only the rich and powerful normally had the means to do this. Even in Western cultures where you were only allowed one wife, having a mistress or several was considered normal as long as you kept it discreet. But the opposite, in which it was considered acceptable for a woman to have multiple men, was almost never true. As far as anyone is aware, there has only been one minor culture in which it was normal for a woman to have more than one husband, and that's one in which a woman would marry two brothers (and therefore the man's genes get spread no matter who the father is).

You're essentially dating. I don't think that's beyond the "norm." I think when people get to the point of doing "wifey" stuff then it's time to be serious and commit. Also if you're looking for someone to do wifey stuff then it's hard to take them seriously if they're not already practicing monogamy.

All it takes is a brief glitch in the system -- maybe a famine, or world war -- and it goes right back to reset: strong men rule, always will.

Open relationships? Done it. Hella lot of fun. Highly recommend. But you can only do it if your'e independent (financially, emotionally), so you won't be stunned by loss or distressed by the coming and going of females in your life. If you're clingy, NO WAY.

All of this "sexual revolution" stuff that the left is trying to "normalize" in Western society originates with the work of a homosexual ****phile named Kinsey.

The left considers him a hero. They even made a movie about him. He was actually a sick degenerate and nothing he published was in any way scientific.
