Elon Musk is a super smart guy. I have more confidence in him than any other CEO out there. He'll make Tesla work.

Institutional investors understand the technological innovation cycle (as they missed out on it numerous times before) and know to stick with Tesla. New tech is never cost-effective, fault-free and so on. Thats the cost of being innovative and breaking new ground.

The recall is - btw - due to a piece produced by Bosch, so I'd imagine any cost related to the recall will be covered by Bosch as part of a liability agreement they have with their supply-chain.

If Tesla dips any more, I will double-down. Same with Amazon, who most of you chumps associate with the acne medication you get delivered by Amazon Prime, but the finance world associates with their predominant market position in cloud technology and innovation in logistics.

This is a decent thread.

For those who say that all will be ok because “ Musk is the Edison of our time”; remember that Edison supposedly died essentially penniless. Do you really want to tie your future financial welfare to that wagon?

You confuse him with Nikola Tesla ... given your level of education, probably best not to listen to you.

Elon Musk is a baldcel who is good at making people think he is a lot smarter than he really is.

He got rich by being lucky enough to be friends with Peter Thiel who made Paypal. Then he took over someone elses company (Tesla) and got really good at advertising it.

When Tesla blows up the worse news is that everyone who has bought one and has it sitting in their garage has an unservicable vehicle since virtually every piece of it is bespoke by and for Tesla! You can't go get service parts from third-party vendors as you can with damn near every other vehicle on the road because there are none! Not only that all the "free" Supercharger access for Model S and X owners ends instantly. As a result the net present value of all those vehicles when Tesla gets in serious trouble craters instantly, they become unmarketable and you as a Model S or X owner will find yourself with a vehicle you cannot sell and ultimately cannot drive as it will not work.

It is destined to.

Last year they made a loss of USD 500 million/quarter on average while managing to sell ~100k vehicles globally (statistical error basically), and only while EVs were given a massive tax break (when Hong Kong cut the tax break, Tesla sales dropped to zero).

Plus the cars themselves are nothing special, an overpriced regular battery pack with 4 wheels, with the comfort and production quality of a car you can get for half the price. But of course twitter morons don't realize that the reason major players aren't bringing out similar vehicles is not that they are lacking the technology - an absolutely ridiculous thought, but you can't tell morons that carmakers with 100+ years of experience/research/technology and actually selling dozens of millions of cars are just loling at Tesla -, but the fact that it is currently impossible to make a profit on them.

Won't even mention the ridiculous autonomous driving bullchit and electric truck claims.

But more power to people who make 10 second YouTube videos on 1/4 mile drag races and claim that Tesla whatever chits over supersport cars.

This, the "autonomous driving" feature is a life threatening scam, no wonder Mobileye told Musk to fuk himself. It's nothing more than a glorified lane assistance x tempomat, marketed as some next gen autopilot chit. Some people are of course idiots and forget that they are still supposed to pay attention and hold the steering wheel.

Tesla is poised to be a major force in the future of America. I am “all in” on Tesla. My next car is likely to be a Tesla Model S 100PD and I can’t wait to get my roof redone with the new tiles and the battery pack installed in my garage. I love what they are doing.

Just lmao if you think Tesla will be allowed to fail.

It’s nothing but a endeavor to promote and normalize the massive control of mankind’s humans transport.

Think about ********, how do you create a worldwide database of the whole population, constantly updated with accurate info, with minimal effort?

I like tesla's products. It's a shame they're having so much trouble scaling up. I suspect we'll continue to see them being saved, as long as there's demand for electric cars, and as long as the economy stays strong.

Competition will keep increasing for them as time goes on, electric cars overall are getting better fast. GM can subsidize their electric car division with strong pickup and SUV sales, tesla essentially has all of their eggs in the "young and trendy" basket. I'd probably own a tesla if I had that kind of cash to burn on a luxury electric car that might be unusable in the near future.

The big thing tomorrow will be automation in every possible field.

The first stage :
That leads increase in the number of high skilled jobs and a massive reduction in the low skilled jobs.

The next stage:
Automation takes over. High skilled jobs too could be at risk.

In that stage of huge unemployment crisis. Tesla would serve better a taxi company. Like seriously who would buy a tesla in an unemployment crisis. (There’s a long time before that doom and tesla will be one of the biggest in 10 years itself.)The benefit is huge since on renewable energy.

You don’t think with billions of dollars in capital he can’t perfect his third car, a much simpler car, than the three other cars his factories have already produced?

Electric cars are simpler and are far more energy efficient than internal combustion engines. They are obviously the future and Elon saw that decades ago. Now the rest of the car industry is racing to catch up with pretty much every car manufacturer putting out their electric versions. The Model 3 has half a million reservations and true demand is much higher than that.

If I were to hazard a guess I’d say in 10 years they could own as much as a quarter of the US car market. They are that far ahead than the rest of the industry in terms of technology and commitment to electric cars. On the energy production side I grant that the Solar City side of Tesla has taken a beating lately, but starting with the solar electrification of islands including hurricane ravaged Puerto Rico I’d say that there is a good chance that Tesla could become a very major player in the global re-imagining of national electrical grids.

In five years I could easily see the company doubling, maybe tripling in size and workforce. In twenty years by a factor of 10 to 15.

Yep. All the big car companies are against you and doing everything in their power as subtly as possible to prevent you from succeeding otherwise it would be very bad for their business.

Not the biggest fan of Elon but don't act lie Tesla is failing on their own without any outside influences.

that is right now, if elon musk can figure out a way to up the battery tech, comfortability, availability, and lower the price, then in 5 years or 10 years, when oil prices rises or something then they are going to do really good

Fossil fuels usage will not stop because of large scale feasibility of renewable energy. If you look at the energy mix of any country, you will notice that renewable energy accounts for less than 10% of this mix. Energy storage, intermittent supply and cost are huge factors that are hampering the large scale employment of renewable energy. Fossil fuel usage will stop only when the world has used up the last reserve. The industrial era has grown and prospered solely because of cheap fossil fuels. The reason behind petroleum being called 'liquid gold' is self explanatory. However, as it is widely known fossil fuels are non - renewable and the supply will start to dwindle eventually. The exact time period is not known but I'm guessing the next 50 years will see a huge change in energy mix. The Middle East will face a huge problem as most of their wealth comes from exporting oil. When the world starts facing an energy crunch due to depletion of fossil fuels, the first step the Middle East will take, is to stop exporting fuels. This is not a long term solution though. They will have to build up capacity for renewable energy sources.

Yeah that's the problem, cold hard facts proving that Tesla's carmaking branch is a failure vs. "but Musk is a genious".

- electric engines are older than ICEs, they are much more effective, that is true

- all Tesla models are bog standard Li ion battery pack + a drivetrain products, there is absolutely nothing new or innovative about the technology they use

- there is no need to "catch up" to Tesla, they barely manage to sell their vehicles, that is if they even manage to produce them in the first place. Which they don't. Just for comparison, VWAG sold ~900k vehicles this January, that's 9 times the amount that Tesla managed in the last 12 months, and they are burning through money like no tomorrow.

They should just let the carmaking branch die off in peace.

no I understand it won't just stop m8, but it has to start somewhere. Let's just put global warming aside since people love to shoot down arguments with global warming conspiracies. Fossil fuels are eventually going to dwindle down to nothing and not be enough to sustain the earth. When that happens we had better have a renewable energy source that we can turn to at a global level.

Reading between the lines, I think it's because Tesla isn't working on it right now. It would be a big investment, and Tesla has plenty of other fish to fry.

It's extremely important that Tesla continue to stay focused on their current deliverables. While they are certainly a media and industry darling, financially they are far from out of the woods. Their execution on the high-volume models needs to be spot-on perfect to get the revenue stream to the right level and position the company for stability in the market. After that, acquiring full automation would be a relatively simple move. To me, this is an eminently reasonable strategy.

I don't think the branch should simply die off, rather I think that there are some adjustment for perfection to be made before all of it's cards get put on the table.

When that happens we had better have a renewable energy source that we can turn to at a global level.
Fossil fuel will never be depleted because the world is already on track to go 100% renewable and fossil free in about 15 years. The remaining fossils will be safely stored in the ground.

Solar, wind, hydro, hydrocarbons from wastes, EV and electrification are a cheaper system than fossils. That’s why solar and wind have been the majority of new power installed globally for about 5 years. Solar and wind have doubled installed base every 2 and 4 years. 100 GW of solar was install this year.

i believe the profit motive will make sure humanity survives after fossil fuels, should such a day come.
