Having a “9-5” job is important for young men as it provides purpose, responsibility, and routine. Otherwise it can be easy to get caught up in other “idle hands” behavioral ruts like addiction; laziness; complacency, etc. No, you’re not a rock star but there is nothing wrong with being a contributing member of society.

I'm not talking about people becoming actors, rockstars etc. The whole point to my original post is that its 100% possible to earn a VERY good income with self taught skillsets / good work ethic. People just like to play the lottery / day dream / work for 5 years for the same bullchit company on the off chance they make get a $2 an hour pay rise..

I'm saying make expotential wealth in a VERY short period of time, then once you have achieved a good lifestyle that youre happy with, financial independence, a good savings account/safety net, then do whatever the fuk makes you happy.


If you wanna be a rockstar, then go play at concerts/pubs/bars/restaurants. If you wanna be an actor, then go act for low budget indies. Do what makes you happy.

Do I think everyone has the potential to be a millionaire? No of course not. Some people are born into war torn countries, some people are disabled. Some are lazy. Some have awful work ethic. Some just arent interested in persuing it .



Put it this way. If you are posting on the misc, you are fully capable of becoming a millionaire. You can read/write English. You have internet access. You have the ability to think / question things. All that is lacking is research, faith and putting in hard work consistently.

If I could have a do over I would want to be a farmer. I'm sure it's hard work but it would be very fulfilling work. And don't kid yourself. Farmers do pretty good money wise. I don't know that many people with assets equal to 100 acres of prime growing land and a million dollars in tractors and combines etc... Most farmers are smart enough not to blow money on flashy status symbols but rather invest in equipment and upgrades. Add in the fact that they probably pay little to no taxes.

Depends on the job. If you say to investment banking/consulting recruiters face "I'm only going to put in 60 hours max", prepare to get asked to leave immediately. Heck, I have friends working at tech companies @ Silicon Valley and no one work less than 60h.

Teacher of 12 Years here, and its not the "9-5 " thats killing me , but the fact that my income is completely capped. NO matter how much better I am than other teachers , i get paid th same. Usually Less than the seasoned veterans that are still teaching like it's the 1950s .

What's kept me in teaching all these years is the incredible amount of off-days with ZERO responsibility . That's priceless. Starting a 2nd job all summer for 40+ hrs a week that hopefully replaces my current career .

But factor in the repetitive drive to work, disrespectful kids, constantly lowering attention span of students.... it'a job that i DO NOT want 3 - 5 years from now.

I would love to be a teacher, but I would end up getting paid half of what I do now.

I work in a metal fabrication shop and its pretty awesome, its union, and its actually pretty fun. Would recommend.

i don't have a ton of experience with it yet, but left my 9-5 job two weeks ago and i've been working as a partner at a startup ever since.

it is a lot more work, but i am much happier now and have no regrets. it helps that my business partners are awesome, and i really enjoy working with them. being a startup, there is also a pretty significant risk of failure, but it's much better than the alternative of staying in a 9-5 job IMO.

as to why i decided to make the switch and why i'm happier now:

- helping to build and run a business has always been a goal of mine. i knew that if i didn't give it a shot i'd regret it for the rest of my life
- i'm 23 and didn't want to spend the rest of my life making money for someone else while being easily replaceable and not building anything for myself
- i was getting extremely bored at my 9-5 job and i had no passion or interest for it. it almost felt like my soul was slowly getting drained out of me with every passing week
- i had reached a point in my 9-5 job where there was no way for me to get promoted any further or get a significant bump in pay. but at the same time, the mismatch with what i went to school for and the career i was working in would have made it very hard to find another 9-5 job in a similar field but with a higher pay
- i enjoy the increased freedom i have and the ability to make important decisions and control the direction that the company is headed in

honestly the worst part about 9-5 is the traffic that you have to deal with if you live decently far from your workplace. Everyone drives like a **** and is stressing about the traffic. I need to live closer to my workplace, i waste an hour and a half a day just driving.
