There's a lot of rock bands that write real artistic music, but that rocks and sounds awesome.

Artistic music is "poetic" where the words don't mean exactly what they say and you have to think and talk about the song.

For instance, there's a website called "Song Meanings" where huge numbers of people discuss the meaning of songs. Nearly all of these songs are in the rock genre. That's because a lot of rock music is written by artists who have led some kind of life that made them think and have the impulse to write.

Country music and rap are almost exactly the same as the subject matter tends to be direct and simple. No one has to think about rap music, there's nothing to talk about. You aren't in a intelligent conversation with the writer.

There's literally no "important" rapper out there that I know of. So, it's uneducated and stupid stuff, written by the most uneducated people in the US, and it appeals to idiots.

Tell me which artist in the roughly 20 years since he hit the scene have made close to or as big of an impact as he has to his genre, let alone transcending the genre.

I think you'd be hard pressed to come up with names, and if not there'd be only a small handful.

Kanye is incredibly talented. Anyone who says otherwise is coping or hates rap. Obviously a lot of the hits are simplified and have a nice beat, that's how they become hits, but listen through any of his albums and the tracks that don't get rotation are great.

Not to mention that he produces his own albums and for a ton of Jay Z's stuff (another rap great).

I agree with you on certain premises, others I don't.

Rap music is GENERALLY about a limited scope of topics, and the lyrics are straightforward.

I don't think the second part is a reason to try and disqualify a whole genre of music, the same way I wouldn't say a portrait artist isn't an actual artist.

Regarding the majority of rap, I agree.

The majority of rap is about bragging about violent criminality, sex, money, and drugs. I honestly think that anyone who disputes is dishonest.

There are 'deep songs' but IME they definitely do not make up a significant portion of rap.
