It's nothing new, people just have more avenues to voice their opinions easily and anonymously. This goes for anything. If people can't do something, they seek validation in their decisions and make up reasons as to why their path was the right one and how X life choice would have been a bad decision anyway.

This goes for school, offspring, relationships, jobs, investments, etc...

Many people who do advanced majors or double majors take extra time. If you were an intellectual, you would know that.
Post a pic of what you look like, in my avi I was around 160 at 5'9 benching 315ish. No dude its only takes extra time if you get a double major in two completely unrelated subjects.

Also,

college proves nothing in regards to work ethic or general aptitude. People tout their college degrees and can still be pretty retarded. They bring no real skills to the workplace other than a piece of paper that says they can operate like a trained monkey in a cubicle.

Its a status thing methinks. Like frat house initiation. You want others to prove you are not as stupid as they are. Thus the hiring feedback loop for college credentials; an insecurity that has brought about mass hysteria in job requirements. Buddy, buddy system. Maybe elitism? But yea, never mind actual merit.

My hypothesis at least.

(excluding STEM dudes or lawyers)

It's also true that there is a rising distaste mostly toward the Social Sciences and the Arts. It is uncomfortable to talk about ideas like institutionalized racism and patriarchal hierarchies, to the point that some people do not even believe such ideas and don't want to be subjected to progressive professor's ideologies. I understand that argument as well.
Institutional racism...like affirmative action?

The crap the social sciences push is nothing but opinion supported by isolated incidents of racism or sexism, not hierarchical structures or anything institutionalized. You ask a social science professor what system is pushing racism or sexism, and all they do is point to the current situations different demographics find themselves in, not actual systems that have put them there. They hypothesize on the causes without any actual proof. There frankly is barely anything scientific about the social sciences.

In my own experience, anti-intellectualism and anti-empathy very often go hand in hand. Collegiate institutions are not perfect and are subject to biases, just as people are. However, one of the most important and beneficial aspects of my college experience was learning about and from people who were not exactly like me, and people who had experienced different things than I did. It is disheartening to watch people chit on an institution that they don't really understand. I do believe increasing education tends to lead to greater awareness of our interconnectedness, and thus a more liberal worldview, or at the very least a more compassionate, gracious understanding of the people around us who are different. Sometimes. But because people choose majors outside of STEM (I majored in underwater basket weaving and I'm doing fuking great)....or because professors tend to be progressive...I don't think that's a reason to chit on higher education as a whole.
LMAO...the anti-intellectual right. Pretty sure it's the left that has all but rejected basic biology at this point.

because college has become a big money hungry business that goes after kids finishing high school.

"oh little jimmy, you dont know what you want to do? well, go to college anyway and take maybe business or general education and you'll figure out"

*two years pass

jimmy still fukked and doesnt know what he wants to do and now took 10-15 classes he didnt even need to take when he finally decides on a degree.

brb lose $$$$$
brb waste time
brb banks and advisers bend you over and give you the long one

that is the problem with it. instead of college being offered to people in an honest way its done in a sinister way where instead of the focus being on helping a kid find what they enjoy, the focus is put on telling the kid hes not going to amount to chit if he doesnt get a degree and enforcing that STRICTLY from elementary school to high school.

tell me, whos more likely to try in college?

- the kid who doesnt know what they want to do so they get put in bogus "core" classes due to their current "general education" plan
or
- the kid who knew they wanted to be a nurse from 9th grade and was 100% fixed on being one.

A college education is still worth the investment. The average lifetime earnings for someone with a 4 year degree vs someone without is significant.

American colleges and universities get a bad rap these days because of their excessive costs, often for stupid degrees and majors that leave a person just as unskilled as they were when they graduated high school. Another reason is that American colleges and universities have literally turned into Marxist, Re-Education centers, where students are brainwashed over 4 years, and turned into supporters and activists of the far, far Left, i.e Socialists and Communists.

Because its a Marxist country club that disgustingly overcharges people who have no choice but to go over-pay their professors their salaries for 3 months of work a year, so a bunch of other douchebags in hiring don't throw out the resumes without right degrees under "Education"

Also for those of us who have been to college we know the absolute f*cking retards who can graduate and yet people graduate and go through life looking down at everyone else because they are "educated".

its expensive. in general you waste time studying things you dont need to learn just like in elementary and high school. Trade schools/VoTec is where its at. AND really has been for generations now. People end up going to college and dropping out anyways racking up piles of debt they cant pay back..Some do great becoming doctors,etc..otherwise its a trap..

Depends on where you go bud. Private schools can be expensive as hell. I’ve done a 4 year degree for the same tuition expense as a 9 month trade.... aside from living costs

its too hard so people find alternative routes and bash others for it.

its tough staying out of trouble, going to class and being decent for 4 years or more.

All the elite home schools their children. They send them to ivy league for connections/tradition mainly. College is not useless though, well it is if you know what you are doing homeschooling your children, but most people can't be ****ed.
I was schooled during summers and was way way ahead of kids 3 years older than me. Never got a B in my life srs. Helps that my dad was a physics professor before starting his business. Funnily enough, that's how my dad made enough money to start his business, by charging 30-50$/hr for private lessons for rich kids. Might seem cheap, but average wage is about 300$ where I live. 90% of the best students are taking private lessons, you better believe that.

Those of you who think only STEM matters and not finance or business really have no clue what you're talking about.

And question for tradies, don't most trades require an apprenticeship where you're really not making good money for a few years? You make actual reasonable dollars only when you get to be a master plumber or carpenter or whatever?

Didn't read any of this, but I heard, that generally college enrollment goes up as the economy goes down and college enrollment goes down as the economy goes up.
right now theres an up in the economy, evident in the housing market, not a full on rager, but an increase. which many people think is a bubble, so lifes good, but when the bubble pops, or it goes down. people will be saying " oh go to college so you're more valuable to employers" and right now they're like **** it theres jobs out there, get it.
thats just my drunken thoughts

its so annoying when people cant comprehend one simple thing:

going to college, DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU LEARN OR DO, it teaches you how to learn new systems of information and just the act of taking ANY courses expands and develops the mind past the rudimentary levels of high school.

You literally just need to show you can:

1. show up somewhere on time
2. learn something
3. mentally develop your mind in conjunction with the process

So many tards focus on the major or if its stem or not or what youre gonna do with the degree...

The point is you cant become a fully developed human being without going there for anything or nothing in particular and doing it.

its like anything else, the more you learn to do something, the more you learn how to learn how to do something.

What sucks is that libs have to poison the experience. they should be banned from being political because people of both spectrums need higher education.

its actually an act of war to make colleges politicized and there should be laws preventing bias and enforcing neutral stances.

or we can just replace useless gen ed courses with MORE degree specific courses that allow the student to broaden their knowledge in THEIR specific field. i see what you are saying about courses allowing you to learn how to learn however most gen ed courses are useless and are nothing but a money making gimmick.
