Guy I grew up with in town had a mutual female friend that I wanted to smash. I was guy-talking how it'd be cool to party with her, hook up, blah blah - think Jonah Hill comically describing how he's gonna hook up with Emma Stone in Superbad - which is close to exactly how I sounded and looked.
Guy took that as I wanted to get her drunk and assault her, went and told her about it so as to protect her. I ended up having to explain afterwards to the girl what I'd meant, she didn't give a sh*t, ended up being casual friends, we still say Hi when we're around town. Confronted my buddy, I couldn't understand his logic, even to this day don't understand what he was thinking...We were in high school, this was almost 20 years ago. I'd known the guy all my life, childhood friends, grew up on the same block, we're not friends anymore.
This whole climate of harassment allegations is, among other things, a huge crisis in perception, and the story above shows it's not just a female thing. People have really warped views on what constitutes impropriety, and things have gotten so far off the beaten path that they're almost unfixable.

I hope it doesn't come to this. I know of, or maybe better said, have known people that aggressively use the court system to defend themselves and also to punish others that, by their opinion, defame them over a wide range of topics.
