I like the first part of your argument but I'd think most politicians would just move to the nicer, richer cities/towns and send their kids to the well funded schools. That doesn't really help underfunded schools so much, in fact it might do the opposite and just exacerbate the issue.

Might be wrong in this but how can you know that the universe has been around for a next to infinite amount of time? I get how the size is infinite but age doesn't have to be?
Also maybe the conditions needed for life are extremely rare and as the universe expands and galaxies stretch further apart it makes finding each other more difficult? Or maybe we're still so primitive and there's a trillion primitive aliens like us that the more advanced ones don't give a fuk about contacting us?

I think a lot people are with you on that one. In my hometown there is one agent who has made absolute bank because every time a house goes up for sale at a below market price he buys it and sells at market. The guy is literal scum of the earth type person. He can only do this because people can't sell houses on their own. I have no problem with the majority of real estate agents but that guy really grinds my gears

Funding has nothing to do with it. The most well funded schools in my state are all failing and they are such a mess the state even refuses to take them over. They get over 10k for each student. There is a private school down the road from where I live now where tuition is 2500 per year that has over 75% of its students graduate college

well obviously its all theory and no one on either side of the debate has answers. but as of now there is no observable extraterrestrial life, and perception is reality. so for now, I am right. Its also possible that we are the only intelligent life in this universe because this universe is a simulation, and the other intelligent life (our unseen masters running the simulation) are outside the simulation...

Public schools are well-funded. People who pay tuition to send their kids to private schools still have to pay the portion of their property taxes that funds the school system. That's what the whole vouchers debate is about. The amount of waste and corruption in the government school system is enormous. Just like every other bloated bureaucracy with a public sector union, they've figured out to extract those dollars for themselves, instead of for the children. It's common for top school administrators to make $400K or $600K a year ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. I knew people who worked for the teachers union who made more than any teacher made. I've been in publicly funded school administration buildings that looked more like fine hotels than government buildings. That's where the money is really going.

In a free country, parents should be free to choose to send their kids to a private school if they choose to and can afford it. Lots of kids in private schools are on scholarship too. For families that can't afford it, there are grants and loans and work/study plans and scholarships in place to assist them.

I would say the solution we need is to disband all public schools and let the marketplace solve the problem much more efficiently. I mean if private schools are so much better, why wouldn't we want more of those rather than fewer?

The problem with the Fermi paradox is that by simply stating that we don't know how rare intelligent life is, the paradox is completely defeated.

If intelligent life is so rare that we are most likely the only intelligent life in the milky way, then the reason we haven't been contacted can simply be because of distance. The next closest galaxy would take millions of years to reach even going at speeds currently unfathomable. Also an intelligent species would likely fully colonize their own galaxy before reaching out to other galaxies, which could take hundreds of millions of years depending on the size. The milky way would take an estimated 5-50 million years and we aren't even that big.

So, the chances of intelligent life + the chances they are in a VERY nearby galaxy + the chances they have already colonized their own galaxy completely + the chances they choose our galaxy to colonize next.... AND even if all those things happened, it still would take hundreds of millions or even billions of years for that to all happen. Consider it took about 500 million years just for our solar system to form.

I think this is quite likely the truth.

Even if there is (or was or will be) other sentient life out there, it's either too far away or doesn't (or didn't or won't) overlap our window of existence, thus we'll have no way of knowing they're there.

Humans will spring into existence and exit into extinction over a cosmically brief time period without ever knowing for certain if we were alone. I think this is our likely fate.

of course, its all theory. the article I posted above talks about some of what you are saying and the "great filter" theory and all of that. Its all very interesting.

There is also the discussion that if it is that exceedingly rare and impossible for them to contact us, then do they really exist in our reality? ...if we can't perceive it, it arguably doesn't exist. A bear farts in the woods and no one hears it, etc...

The probability argument only applies if life is a random process. We have no evidence that is the case, nor do we have any successful experiments showing that life can spring from nothing if you just mix the right chemicals and wait long enough.

Believing that life springs up naturally from organic molecules REQUIRES THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF FAITH as believing in a supernatural being who created us.

Humans will spring into existence and exit into extinction over a cosmically brief time period without ever knowing for certain if we were alone. I think this is our likely fate.
I think this is a legitimate perspective, it's certainly possible that because of the vastness of the universe than no life can evolve and advance quickly enough to ever reach the distance required to confirm the existence of other intelligent life before they themselves are wiped out due to cosmic events.

I disagree, there is not one proven example of a supernatural being existing whereas we have one example of life forming in a planet with all the right conditions... us. But yeah, we know next to nothing about our true origins, it's all theories but my brain can't comprehend how we are possibly the only beings in the universe, seems impossible to me

this assumes that the most-well funded schools are sufficiently funded.

they could be the most well-funded and also be dramatically underfunded.
