if u only have to do 40 hours to make bank in IT then do it surely you can find time for your passions, the extra money u will be making will definitely help
but anyway one of my bros quit law 6 months after starting at a good firm because of the fuked hours which i understand, hes now pretty directionless but says it was worth it

OP, what you are describing is pretty much how careers are. I am from finance and all it has been so far is:
- Countless excel models and data analyses
- Countless PPT presentations that no one looks at. You only hear "why did you pick those colors?"
- So many people who are lost and have no clue what they are doing in their roles. They only play politics and make themselves look & feel important
- Most of the bright stars fall off the career ladder to pursue other interests
You aren't alone. Maybe you don't have the stamina to endure the drudgery that office life involves. It is indeed a waste of time and effort. At least you are getting paid. I would ride it out for 5-7 years and then re-evaluate. You young guys will have a huge future with the small population size of your cohort. Us older people have to fight it out with the Baby Boomers who are so archaic, greedy and backwards.

if u have the patience you could get into teaching. here in the US technology subjects are in dire need, i imagine its the same every where else. so getting a job wont be hard and its pretty secure as long as ur not banging students

Bring an entrepreneurial mindset your job and take the initiative, ask forgivness rather than permission, and be the change you want to see in the world. Not in your job description? Do it anyway. Youโre the agent of change in your own life, no one else.

be a teacher if you want, i do think that is better than working in corporate. even if its coding and the enviorment is a bit more laid back than finance and you have casual dress code etc. whatever.

lots of other great jobs in tech and the fact that you managed to graduate with a cs degree means you are at least not retarded.
If you want to feel like you're contributing why dont you look into being a Product Manager at one of those London tech companies. if you do well you can execute on your vision to build some product that does make some change in peoples lives. even at ******** theres a team dedicated to helping blind/deaf people being able to enjoy using social media and sht like that. companies kill for tech-minded PMs with cs degrees. plus you get great pay and all the other perks of tech job.

i think you're struggling with the idea that there is only one thing you were born to do to find fulfillment. the truth is fulfillment can be found in many different places for all of us.
fulfillment comes from seeing theoretical potential realized. we struggle because it's tough to do your best all the time.. never give up, never stop learning, never stop yearning to see and be more. since we are not omniscient beings the enigma then becomes why anything? I don't know that anyone has the answer to this, but the longer you live the more responsibilities you'll likely acquire: significant other/spouse, kids, employees, etc.

Can confirm, software development has been my passion since my early teens, but as soon as I entered cubecel mode in the 9-5 corporate world after university, it completely sucked my soul out and got me depressed beyond belief, I felt so lost
I quit that life a year ago to pursue online entrepreneurship and feel way better, hopefully I'll never have to get a "real job" ever again

Mate whatever you do don't go into teaching or NHS. GL managing a class full of lil $hits essentially becoming a day carer. You will be depressed and cap your earning to under 30k for the rest of your life.
Also LOL if you think corporatism is bad at a publicly listed fortune 500 company, NHS is bureaucracy hell and a lot worse, especially if you will be working on the IT side with 0 budget.
What you need to do is apply to start up or SME in London for coding. There are hundreds of job opening for software developers or CompSci graduates in London with motivating workplaces and interesting business concepts. You want a small medium enterprise because the bureaucracy is less, the impact of your work is more and you are more likely to work with people that are motivated together for the greater cause. Use the site Glassdoor for reviews and just fire your CV out.
I work in a fortune 500 company in London and I can sympathise that IT work is largely held down by political BS, but unless you are motivated to take a passion external from your degree full time then this is the best course for you.
