Honestly, the best diet is where you eat most of your carbs post workout (~100 grams) and for the rest of your meals keep it meat(or some type of protein) and fruits/veggies/healthy nuts. If you walk to bulk, choose fatter cuts of meat in your meals. If you want to cut, keep the meat (or protein) lean. But always keep the fruits/veggies/healthy nuts consistent. And of course, drink plenty of water.

I eat clean as a whistle cutting because it cuts down bloat and is easier to track cals.
Bulking, not so much.. but I still pseudo try. Some go full retard. There’s a difference between eating three McDoubles for a meal, which has a decent macro spread, vs eating a box of donuts then trying to work the rest of your macros around that.

Especially all these twinks with sky high metabolism that ask you how to put on weight and then tell you they eat rice chicken and oats and even though they eat loads of it they still end up not making any progress because they are eating poverty level calories due to all the low calorie dense food.

Most people doing IIFYM for a longer period of time (not the "just started IIFYM guys! Look IG I'm eating fruit loops for dinner XDdddd" crowd) eat mostly clean anyway since it's better for you long term. I believe the 80/20 rule holds true for most people who want some flexibility in their diet, but still want to eat like adults and enjoy wholesome foods.
Personally I find no difference, the biggest difference in how I look comes from lifts > cals > macros > sodium/sugars/bloatyness > cardio > supposed "cleanliness" of food
It is difficult to bulk without eating calorie dense food though

I don’t think it would matter for cutting or bulking, but like Mel said if ur eating IIFYM style and tend to use “dirtier” foods just increaset health risks. But honestly It sounds like u don’t eat like dog chit on IIFYM so u don’t need to worry

I think you dont know basics of nutrition

If are you tracking macros.... by default you will eat cleaner. Just because can fit in 200 calories worth of junk into your diet, doesnt mean you arent eating high quality food. Try hitting your macros on pizza.

are people still not understanding that IIFYM doesnt equal 'eat like chit' as long as you hit your macros? because you can't hit your macros on candy bars alone.
you're still eating clean/variety most of the time, while fitting whatever the hell you want 20%.
The only difference is you're not viewing it as a 'cheat meal' because it develops a negative relationship with food.
question: pro clean eaters/anti IIFYM love to talk about micronutrients. so tell me your numbers. what are your daily goals and how much are you actually getting per day. go ahead, i'll wait.

I'm in agreement with the 80/20 rule no matter what diet you're doing unless you're trying to get very shredded. Then it needs to be more 90/10.
That being said, clean eating is going to yield better results and performance. I've been training a long time and been through many different methods of eating. Nutrient dense and easily digested food will yield better results and gym performance 10/10 times.
Like others said IIFYM isn't an excuse to be a hog for 4 hours a day, and its also not necessary if you want to enjoy some cheat food on a cut. Just plan it strategically. Ideally after an intense session like legs or back.

you're still eating ''clean'' on IIFYM, but you're fitting in a treat here and there while still hitting your macros.
i can't believe some people still don't understand such a basic concept.

What I find strange though is how come so many people still do these torture diets where all of their calories come from like 3 or 4 foods which they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and just look forward to having a cheat day where they end up binging.
My original point was whether calorie is really a calorie and macro a macro no matter what source it comes from? So in theory could you prep for a show eating KFC (not exclusively ofc) while still hitting your calories and macros? Or would you end up getting somehow worse results?

eating clean is IIFYM, because it fits your fuking macros. IIFYM doesn't mean you eat like ****, if you eat like **** it isn't going to fit your macros unless your macros is 5k calories a day with 4k calories coming from fat and sugar.
look at it like this. if you eat healthy and "clean" the foods generally aren't very calorie dense so you will eat more and get full while hitting your macros. If you eat ****ty high calorie foods you will hit your macros much sooner and be hungry as fuk the rest of the day.
But eating icecream or pizza every once in a while won't kill you because it means you are cutting back on other carb/fat sources to make room for it. At the end of the day a calorie is a calorie.

It didn't have to be junk food. It could have been steak, fruit, etc. Only fuking idiots turned it into meaning eating treats or junk food regularly.
