I'm similar. I stopped watching Netflix and don't miss it. Most new movies I pass on viewing. Of late I'll watch older classic movies from the 30s, 40s and 50s anymore.

Alien Covenant was absolute garbage. Prometheus, on the other hand, I thought was half decent (hence my excitement for Covenant). I know Promotheus gets a lot of hate but fuk that noise.

Movies suck.

They have beaten the cliches to death. No need to go into what these cliches are... but it's not working on me, Hollywood.

TV shows too.

Cringed hard on the last season of The Walking Dead... the current one is absolutely pissening. Screw you AMC

I saw an ad for the new Glass movie. I had seen split. Thought it was just okay but it did keep my interest instead of putting me to sleep. So I figure I will go back and watch Ubreakable.

Jesus what a terrible movie. Slow. Boring. Wooden acting. Just a terrible retelling of the most famous superhero story ever. Even the main action sequences that might have made the movie somewhat interesting were all just implied. Never shown. I can't believe that movie got good critical reviews. Haven't liked anything by m.night.shamalamadingdong.

You get older, wiser, and smarter. No small wonder that basic AF entertainment (movies, TV, etc.) isn't as interesting as it was. I don't harbor any triggered theories about the politicization of Hollywood et al, but I've always been a big reader and going from that to movies or TV feels like I'm watching entertainment for kids.

Comedies are hard to find nowadays and the only other options are superhero movies and/or cartoonish CGI heavy movies. This literally gives me like zero incentive to watch the new movies.

Netflix makes it almost impossible to even search for comedies. They really should separate comedy movies and stand up specials.

I think the comic book movies have totally killed mainstream movies. There's no motivation to make any other movie when they know they can just throw out a Marvel movie and it will make a billion dollars. I really miss the good R-rated action movies of the 90s... Terminator 1/2, Die Hard 1/2/3, True Lies, Face Off, The Rock, Con Air, Speed, Total Recall, Air Force One. All those movies were so bad ass. When was the last time a good R-rated action movie came out?

This video IMO is a brilliant break down comparing modern actions films to action films in the 90 and early 00s...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eac0lXfMs9c

I honestly can't watch most modern actions films, without getting extremely bored (never watched any Statham action film, I get extremely bored after the 1st 15 minutes).

They actually came out with movies and made attempts to be original back then still.

Now you will see a movie made and remade like over and over with just different actors, especially superhero movies.

Most of the good movies and classics I've already seen, some too many times. Movies these days are absolute trash. They lack art, skill, and just feel like slideshows, like 98% of them nowadays. I used to be able to watch a movie a day, but not anymore, can barely focus on or finish any movie now unless I watch one with someone else and even that's still a struggle.

Years ago I used to watch all kinds of movies all the time. The last movie I saw was that Han Solo star wars thing just because my friends went. I fell asleep through half of it. (I was out all day, I've been drinking. I debated with myself do I want to watch this movie vs this imax seat is comfy) I think that's the only movie ive seen this year.

THese days I don't watch movies or TV. Most of the time I'm just too busy, plus I find more engaging and fun content on the internet. Often times it's in audio form. If I try to sit down and watch a movie, if the couch is comfortable, I'll be asleep in 10 minutes.

It's super weird ain't it? You've got all this supposedly exciting chit happening on screen, along with crazy audio, yet you're sitting there bored ****less...

I'd argue it's the latter. There's some really talented and creative folks who will never even see the inside of a talent agency because these giant film companies and movie execs don't want to take the risk on them. The ONLY way a big-budget movie gets made that isn't a remake, a disney movie, or a superhero movie is if it's for a big-name producer. The only movie think of that had even a shred of creativity this year was A Quiet Place, and that was because it was a pseudo-horror film that cost pennies to make. I just don't think we're ever going to get some of the epic movies that came out of the 90s-00s because no one is going to give it a chance. Sad really.

But TV has been great because there's a lot of competition atm. You've got Amazon, Netflix, HBO, STARZ, Shotime, and a ton of others on top of all the basic cable markets gobbling up anything that looks like it has potential.
