Some truth here. The suit is pretty much the cubecel uniform. Uncomfortable af and worse still, you can't wash them at home and have to pay to have them dry cleaned.

I'm not really sure what the OP is trying to accomplish with this thread. Attire is completely industry related. If you work in the corporate world, you have to sometimes throw on a suit.

I've never ventured into a lower class neighborhood and saw nothing but men with suits walking around lol. Not sure where you live OP.

This millennial generation where even having a good paying job and putting on a suit for a living and being ridiculed is getting so ridiculous. You sound pretentious as fugg OP. Some days I wear a suit and some days I wear a t-shirt and jeans, and some days I wear slacks. I'm not going around looking at what other people are wearing and making myself feel better about what I'm wearing and calling them lower class. STFU and go back to your local coffee shop and people watch while people go to work and saying to yourself how good you have it. you smell of being single and lonely.

I’m in a major engineering office and if you show up in anything business casual or above, people ask if you have a job interview lined up that day

Only business development wears suits regularly, and that’s because their job is to be client-facing. The Executives and VPs vary but range from very casual to business casual max aside from special occasions

When I first graduated, I worked in the project management office for the health facilities division of the government here and wore nice slacks and dress shirts every day until the veterans there started calling me out on it

I own suits and there is a time and a place for everything. A nice suit worn in the right place is indeed something girls will like. Formal events with a nice suit are great. I am more speaking to the point of people who wear suits in the wrong context, such as the type of douche who wears one everywhere he goes to seem successful. Or the type who do it to convey more importance or success for their job. Or the type of jobs that require it outside of law/banking. Just some general observations my dude.

I can wear anything I want to work, but I would love to wear a suit everyday! I dress very nice for work, better than everyone else, but only because I prefer to dress up!

I'm in a suit as much as possible where appropriate!

MrAwatts - bro, this wasn't a good thread man. You didn't think it through. I wear a suit 3-4 times a week. and IDGAFOS about what you think. When I'm dressed up to the 10's I feel invincible. It's the easiest dopamine rush you can get - to look good.

There are soooooooo many reasons why you should always be the best dressed, not only in the office, but in life. It helps you in your career, and helps you with women. That is if you're decently attractive and have a personality to begin with. If you add a suit to those first two qualities, boom.......... God mode.

Like I said in my office alone there are 1000+ people making 150k-300k and no suits to be seen. Look at executives of any tech company, even CEOs are mostly jeans, sneakers and blazers. The suits just aren't necessary these days m8, with few exceptions.

I don't ever see suits. The business casual standards wax and wane. We have some departments that start in that range, but they just follow the same code as everyone else.

Business suits come from leisure suits of the 20s & 30s which were a relaxation of the tailcoat suits from the preceding years. During that time, our business suits WERE casual dress. I love good fitting suits, but modern trends for tight everything make them uncomfortable and awkward. They're supposed to be very comfortable while looking good, that was the secret. It's not hard or time consuming to just throw on some dress pants, shirt, belt & shoes but the tie can be a pain in the ass.

It really does depend on the industry and the company. Some companies are full on suits and pantyhose (for ladies) others they don't give fcuk as long as work gets done. Hell in summer my office allows shorts and flip flops.

It depends on the city to be quite honest.

I live/work in NYC and have clients throughout the US, I've noticed that NYC and DC are by far the most uptight when it comes to business attire, many many positions it's just the accepted norm to be in a suit or suit & tie. Whereas out in CA, many of those same positions that would be wearing a suit in NYC or DC would only be in business casual. It's really just a business culture thing. I go out to CA and I dress down, but when I'm in DC it's a suit.

Most people making over 200K a year wear a suit.

Other than Nordstrom, I don't know anyone who makes less than 50K and wears a suit.

Maybe some door to door sales guys. That's it.

Agree. One of the reasons I love the South. I'm sure Cali is similar. I have a few suits for when the occasion calls for it, but when I was jet setting for M&A related work, 2/5 days were suits and rest I mostly needed to make sure I was business casual (but not sloppy) and had a nice blazer. Suits were standard if there were going to be large meetings with finance, legal and C-suite present.

I hate wearing ties. glad office fashion continues to move towards comfortable, and that the younger people don't care as much.

Oldest millenials are approaching 40 right now. And suits are outdated imo. They look good, and I would rock a nice one without the tie on a night out.
Now that I'm thinking about it tho, suits would make clothing choices a lot simpler.........
My favorite combo are nice navy pants no pleats, white shirt, with nice jacket.

Probably depends on the geographic location and the industry. I live in South Louisiana and if I see someone in a suit I assume their going to a wedding or a funeral. Also guys that work for funeral homes, retail at larger/more professional department stores, etc.


In a professional environment its usually slacks and a button up shirt or a polo. Its hot/humid here. If you wear a suit outside of December-February you'll likely need to keep an extra shirt in your office to change. You'll start sweating walking from the parking lot to the building and will need to change. (srs)
