It’s only nominated for political reasons. You could say the same for at least a few of those films nominated. Blacks showed up in droves to watch Black Panther even if they weren’t marvel fans, or comic book fans in general.

Last year moonlight won, which is a black movie as well, but I doubt it drew many viewers.

Actually a decent article about it.

Cliffs: Oscars will stay more relevant if there are movies people have actually seen. The inclusion of summer blockbusters says a lot about the state of film in the era of smartphones and Netflix.

Not srs. I mean yeah but I agree, as big of a MARVEL fnatic I am, BP is not BP(lol BP nominated for BP) material, if you base it on the movie without political agendas. Avengers IW is waaaay superior. I even enjoyed Dr Strange more and it didnt get any nomination.

I think I went into black panther with an already made up mind that I wouldnt like it based on seeing how over-the-top it was being praised. I'll have to rewatch it with an open frame of mind

Remember when epics used to win, like Gladiator and Braveheart. Since 2012 it's been Birdman, Spotlight, Moonlight, Shape of Water and one of those chit tier Noms.

I'm buying into this 2012 phenomenon being real.

Lol Black Panther was a 7/10 at best, basically on par with Aquaman. Into the Spiderverse deserves that spot, not BP

Where did I say exclusively blacks bought tickets to see the film you stupid fuk? I’m pointing out it was a cultural fantasy film for them and whether they were comic fan and/or superhero film fans or not they came out in droves all over simply because of that. It was like an empowerment thing, black kids all over the country started to do that Wakanda bow. While many non blacks also went to see the film but for non political reasons.

There is a reason it sold more tickets than Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, etc and it isn’t because everyone thinks Black Panther is super cool.

Because it was a film about homosexuals and not a cultural fantasy film. Not to mention it was not nearly as much promoted, Black Panther was a marvel film. Moonlight was way less known about and opened in 4 theaters to start. It also won a bunch of awards, such as academy awards simply for political reasons.

Black Panther was arguable one of the worst Marvel movies lately. I think it would have had a lot more potential if they'd have left out the SWJ crap and just focused on making a badass movie with a good story.

The whole strong independent women, that don't need no man and are the most badass fighters in the kingdom kind of left me loling as well.

Ah gotcha black people only went to see that movie because they felt empowered and I had deep seeded black cultural fantasies, good to know. Here I thought I only went to see it cause it looked good.

Pretty meh for a superhero movie, couldn't even finish it in one sitting.

I'm shocked they didn't include any movies with a female director on the nomination list.

2018 felt weak for movies overall. Sicario 2 and Bad Times at the El Royale were prob my favorites that I can mention off the top of my head.
A million miles away - I don't.. feel.... anything.

Also, am I the only one who thought Michael B. Jordan got way too much attention for his role? It was clearly written for him to be the runaway star, but I thought Chadwick Boseman was significantly better in his role. A lot of Kill Monger scenes felt forced and awkward.
That’s what dragged BP down for me. They definelty aimed to make Micheal’s role a commentary on all the evils of the real world.

But why anyone gives a chit what the oscars deems as “best” ever since they went full blown SJW is beyond me. These are the people who made tragic deaths of two actors who died to drug over doses into mountains of injustice. One of them was good and not great and they actually had NYPD arresting heroin dealers for PSH’s death even though people had been dying over the bad heroin there for years prior.

Take all the people that typically go to see comic films, which is a lot. Those movies make big money usually, now add onto it a large amount of blacks who normally never or rarely go to see those types of films and you have a movie that is gonna make serious money. The reason it’s being nominated for an Oscar is obviously political. Same could be said for Blackkklansman which is a terrible comedy film, and of course Green Book where the homosexual, black genius, musician has to enlighten the short tempered white Italian guy. Of course they gotta throw in Bohemian Rhapsody for LGBTQ community as well, that one I’m not gonna complain about because I went the the cinema to watch that film and it was a ok film, wouldn’t have thought it was Oscar worthy but against that list of competition it’s head and shoulders above. Vice looked decent but didn’t get a chance to see it. The Favorite is a feminist film about two women who never actually met each other in person only exchanged letters.

LOL, what a joke. I could barely finish the movie. I thought Michael B Jordan was absolutely TERRIBLE in this.

I'd ask how this is even possible but this has nothing to do with the quality of the movie.
