It's consumers fault that they're producing a product no one wants? Lol.

Millenials now know that being a 9/10 Chad is the only thing that will get you laid. No need to waste the money on a motorcycle which in the past, people thought got you laid

Their bikes are overpriced and under engineered and have been for 30 years or so.

1. The fans of Harleys are insufferable *******s.
2. Between Asian women drivers, 16 year olds who think they're invincible, and grandpa who can't turn his head and is legally blind, I think I'll pass on driving something that's gonna potentially ruin my life in one accident.

harley is not a practical bike thats why its declining.
its not very fast also...its difficult turning corners on a long wheelbase bike as opposed to a nimble street naked bike like KTM Duke or Triumph street triple etc.

The motorcycle market was basically a huge fad going back to to WW2. Every old rich guy's dream was to save up to buy an expensive ass Harley to go on some stupid adventure cross country. It's a slowly dying market in the US these days and nobody is to blame for it. The market has shifted over to Asia. The problem is no person in China wants to buy a ****ty Harley.

If Harley wants to cater to Millennials, they are going to have to add a touch screen or selfie cam to their bikes.

Here is my 2013 RK. Picked it up last year for 13K and it only had 246 miles on it.
I have ridden all my life. My brother just paid 43k for the new CVO Street Glide and I called him a phucking idiot right to his face. To each their own.

"There's nothing new here," Harley-Davidson told CNBC in a statement. "Our advanced analytic capabilities allow us to deeply understand rider migration trends. In fact, our knowledge of riders informed our strategy to build the next generation of Harley-Davidson riders globally, which we launched in early 2017."

The point of the article is that they don't understand

harley davidson is one of those brands strongly associated with old farts, old school choppers, and biker gangs.
the next generation doesnt want or care about any of that, and they're less likely to buy a motorcycle at all - what with the risk of death and all
if HD wants to attract millenial buyers they're gonna have to do a dramatic rebranding
personally i think theyre fcked

Article actually doesn't make any sense at all.
Their consumer base is 50 year old men and have been for years. 20 year olds not buying your product isn't anything new. They never bought your product in the first place how are they killing your company now?
Bad business move to try and sell to a demographic who don't want to buy your product in the first place.

Harley Davidson motorcycles are trash. I've been riding motorcycles since I was a kid and never wanted one.
I even gave the V-rod a chance since it was a fairly modern bike with decent power. I found one that was a steal but I sold it after 10 months in disgust. At least I got my money back. Harley does have a decent used market.
The bikes are under powered overweight, wheelbase is too long and low. They are comfortable. I never had a charlie horse because you're basically rid8ng a lazy boy recliner down the street.
But the technology is ancient. Shocks are terrible. Even on the highest setting I was bottoming out on potholes. Forget corners. Everything scrapes and the side with the muffler scrapes twice as fast.
Electronics are non-existent. Lights were terrible. I think the geezer glides have a little bit more going for them in this department but then they cost over 30k. More than some pretty high performance cars!
Sorry but 80 horsepower out of 1800cc is ridiculous. It was ridiculous 30 years ago. Then you have chitty shocks, brakes, electronics, what exactly are you paying for? Chrome dip and paint?

That Livewire going for close to $30000 is a joke.
Maybe they'll bail them out with another tariff.

Preferences, taste, opinion and wants of the greater population change over time & generations......companies can either adapt and stay relevant or cling to what was and go by the wayside, slowly dying in the process.

They waited too long to evolve with the market. Younger riders are choosing super moto, naked, and super-sports. Middle aged guys are choosing adventure bikes (especially when they don't need to ride their wife). Jap companies has the lower end market covered. European has the higher end market covered.
If HD wants to remain true to their roots they should have figured out a way to drastically increase the tech, performance, and handling while reducing the cost of their bikes. Say what you will about the company but dealer network and community is second to none.
I'm going to pick up a Street Glide as a second bike eventually so I can take cross country trips. But you can find them for around 12-15k in good condition so its not too bad. I'd never buy a brand new one.

lol every time I see leather dads and leather moms playing biker dress up with HD gear on the weekends when they're only going across town to pick up their prescriptions at the walgreens.
Then there's the fake tough guy manlets with sleeveless HD shirts, chitty tattoos and bandanas. Sons of *******ry.

If Harley was smart, they'd extort the dollar shave club, beard oil, web developer demographic. You know, the millennials from wealthy families that went to private schools, make 80 to 130k in software engineering or web developing but try desperately hard to look like they live couch to couch?
You release a heavily vintage-inspired design. Strip it of nearly every creature comfort possible, slap a Harley logo on it, make Ryan Gosling the brand ambassador and sell the $1,000 bike for $10,000 msrp. You know how many idiots would go around bragging about their "vintage style'd Harley"? Jesus... make me VP. It's so simple.
