Ayyy lmao, I have NO idea but apatently it's a thing, and I'm definitely not in bad shape. I went to the ER and the nurses and Doctor had me keep repeating what happened because I think their minds were blown LOL. Trolling me hard.

I posted a thread about it on the Misc too. Got quite a few responses saying people have gotten hurt more doing mundane stuff in the gym than actually lifting.

One guy said he got a grade 2-3 tear in his calf getting dumbbells out of the rack.

Right before that I had done deadlifts and of course that went fine. Which is what prompted me to tell OP at least it was a "cool" exercise at to be injured with at least.

Either way being hurt fuking sucks.

How you feeling today OP? Are alternating ice and heat? Taking ibuprofen to keep inflammation down? I dunno if it's something that you're about but I've been having my girl (you can have your boyfriend do it...not srs.) rub CBD oil on my back and it helps a bit.

I can't lift heavy, so you shouldn't lift heavy. My advice is golden and yours is terrible.

In all cereal Ash hope you feel better soon, ibuprofen until you get to see the sports doc and let them start you on a regimen.

I pulled a groin muscle switching to sumo deads reps of 5 some stupid piddly weight back in January, took a little over a month to heal but I had not stopped training throughout the time, just stopped deadlifting for a while.

i tore mine years ago brah teres is a little ******* muscle

the pros are you'll be able to learn what back movements don't hit it and what does hit it, you'll be amazed how many rowing movements you'll still be able to do srs

was a couple years ago but from what I remember it took about 10 weeks to use everything again and about 6 months to be able to do a dead hang or completely stretch out when doing overhead pulling movements

TY bros, it’s painful as fuark today, but no bruising. Can’t really move my arm much

To bros saying I was going too heavy, I was supposed to hit 455 but decided to stay at 435 because was training after a week of being sick. 1st set was legit easy af. Was a little dehydrated so maybe that contributed.

damn i completely forgot about this part i wanna say it took about a week to be able to move my arm and 2 to raise it high enough to somewhat use again. Don't worry brah it's a tiny muscle with a lot of blood flow so it'll heal quick just be careful with how you sleep cause I woke up to my back cramping up a couple times and thought it was game over

and I want to warn you now if you do a bunch of underhand back movements avoid those for as long as possible and if you try them again be careful as fck, underhand movements would make mine hurt for at least 2 years after and I've just thrown them out completely because of it

Reps on sight brah

Sucks to hear that it took you 10 weeks. I’m gonna do a ton of banded rows to keep the blood flow, hopefully can still bench and do some upper body stuff

Currently dealing with the same issue. What's crazy is it's super painful doing any sort of pull-down exercise but doesn't bother me deadlifting.

Kinda bold assumption man. I’ve had my form looked at by one of the strongest PLers here, a lot more experienced than a “top tier powerlifter” like yourself. I’m sure I can improve a dozen things on my pulling form but not sure if that’s what caused it

That sucks Ash... I don't think it's a tear or at least not a full tear. If it were torn you wouldn't even be able to support yourself doing a pushup. Keep eating and stay as hydrated as possible. See what the sports doc says and do whatever they say, but my guess is you'll be good to go in a week or two. Just don't go ham the first couple sessions back
I think genetically some people shouldn't be lifting too heavy. It just usually becomes apparent as you get older. The muscle might be able to move the weight but the joints/ligaments/tendons aren't always on par with the rest of the muscular tissue. I'm about at the age (32) where I feel like I need to use wristwraps for support. And I don't even lift under 8 rep range. I know guys built like neanderthals that can move 4x the weight on a press and their wrists feel fine.

There's no way its a full tear. I'm not familiar with that specific muscle he's describing. But if its a full tear he should be in agony and the entire area should be a dark purple/ turning 'black' right now. A full tear is comparable to breaking a bone in terms of pain. Sounds more like a mild strain though its possible there is a partial tear I suppose.

Based on my experience (and having seen other people with tears) they will have you looking like this. I've never met anyone tear something and they are fine/try to continue a workout/activity. You can literally feel the tissue separate and the warm/hot rush of blood in that area.

Do you over tighten the lats when you pull?

I've been trying to queue just dropping the arms down as far as possible without the crazy lat tention. I dunno, read it from a good PLer

LMAO at everyone coming in here to saying lifting heavy is dumb because of this. To an extent, "heavy weight" is a relative term, and this muscle tear/sprain is not a direct result of doing heavy weight. When preforming the deadlift the teres major's job is to lock the scapula in place. If he is doing proper sets of five, according to his weight progression, then I can almost guarantee he internally rotated his arm shifting more workload on that small muscle
