People are rotting. 5 days is too much and people are just going through the daily motions.

I keep saying we need to change our work schedule, employers need to offer 4 10s, most of us would gladly work that.

I've seen that, it's an eye opener.

I got completely screwed over by an employer, after they introduced a new boss (moved from another store to ours) who was know throughout the company as being a sociopath. Long story short, he took a dislike to me and tried to force me out of job (a position I did, with one other person). I was objectively better at my job, and had the stats/evidence to prove it.

It didn't matter, and they were siding with the new boss (he was a sociopath, but was very devoted to his job, and made them money), and tried to get me transferred... At one point - took me into a private room - and warned me that 'he is protected', and they would deny one of the things that I wrote that they knew to be true.

I took legal action, and got an out of court settlement.

That wasn't an experience that changed me, it actually took a few more jobs after that, for my eyes to be truly opened.

I play the game nowadays. I do enough to get by, but I slack off when I can. I know that at the end of the day, corporations will put money above care for people.

I work because I need the money, any hard work I do now is so that my boss continues to value me... Not out of any sense of obligation to be a hard worker.

Part of it is self fulfilling prophecy. They want to bish about not moving up or making more money, so they do the minimum to make sure they still have that talking point. Wouldn't want to accidentally move up in the world.

All jokes aside, I remember my first day in the working world (it was just fast food, no biggie). I thought everybody "tried their best" to do a good job. Boy was I naïve. I can't remember the exact scenario, but I remember watching an employee spend more time figuring out how not to do something than it would have taken to just do it. It was new to me so I told my mom when I got home. That's when she awared me that the rest of my life I'd be working with people who will spend 15 minutes trying to get out of 5 minutes of work...and boy was she right.

The one issue I have seen from a professional stand point is loyalty or should I say the lack there of. And that goes for both the employer and employee...Wasn't so long ago in the past it wasn't un heard of to see a guy work 20-30+ years and retire from the same company... he worked his a$$ off for them day in and day out and they (the company) took care of him. In doing so he (the employee) never went out looking for the next job that paid $.50 more an hour....

In todays society most companies view you as expendable regardless of position and the employees wont even bat an eye to just not show up the next day because they took a job paying more... I cant say that I blame either side for being that way... it just is the way it is. But because of this you see a lot of people do the absolute fkn minimum because there is no incentive otherwise.

Having another full day off during the week would be huge for employee morale.

Yup. I had a conversation with a coworker about something similar. This girl at my work got promoted twice in 13 months (back to back year end promotion), and it is seen as unfair around the office bc other people worked harder than her. But when I asked my coworkers if they’ve ever expressed to their managers that they’re looking for a promotion and here’s what they’re doing to get there? Answer across the board was no. Managers are 100% more likely to promote you if they think you’ll leave (and you’re a valued performer). Why would people who go above and beyond but staying silent praying someone will notice their work get any promotions? They’re already doing the job for less than the pay.

I also think it’s odd that if you ask around the office no one is willing to say they’re actively seeking to move up, it’s like they’re pre-emptively coping with the lack of a promotion because it’s less embarrassing if you didn’t get it bc you didn’t even try.
They said she's gone too far this time

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The above replies.

More productivity and more effort and more hard work will most likely not result in the desired recognition and/or rewards etc. No incentives etc.

This. You basically get no reward for doing better other than more work and even blocks on internal upward movement since managers don't want good staff members to leave (seen it happen more than once). Most companies hire new people on more money than existing staff, why would they pay you more when your already there?

Looking online for other job opportunities whilst boss’s back is turned crew.

Seriously, as previously stated. Most people feel very underpaid already, so why would they put in more effort and widen that gap when the chances of being rewarded and noticed for it are so slim?

Saying in my town goes... “I will put up with as much bullchit as they pay me to put up with”.

Soooo.... I tend to work at a level for which I deem more appropriate to my salary.... which allows me to misc on company time.

brb working hard allows me to wear hoodies, jeans and skate shoes everyday while getting promotions and raises every few months LMAO. So easy to look good when all my coworkers suck at their job.

^ The people who put in minimum effort get minimum results when it comes to pay. Bosses recognize hard/good work and if you don't think so then you just suck at your job.

This isn't true all the time LOL. Sometimes there's just plain favoritism. If a perfect world I agree with what you are saying, but this world is far from perfect.

If you buy a car, do you try to get a good deal or do you try to overpay? Would you buy a car that costs 20% more if the company producing the car gives it to their employees?

I‘m not a capitalist in that I think you shouldn‘t help the poor. But I‘m a capitalist in that I think it fits most people much better than extreme socialism. There is no pure capitalist country nowadays anyway. But history has shown time and time again that systems leaning more towards capitalism produce more wealth, freedom, and happiness, while socialist/communist countries produce hunger, death, and misery.

Sorry brah but this is not the norm at all. Sounds like you work for a good company, which are few and far between. I've worked for many bosses who were happy to reap the benefits of my efforts and my only reward was a "good job" email.

Yeah but how long do those capitalistic countries last before falling into debt or turning into socialism because people are tired of getting fuked in the ass? Capitalism is the reason people are looking for Socialism as a saving grace. Capitalism has always been looked at as evil, why? Because look how much it has been abused, The only reason it's fair is because of government intervention.

You can still make great profit treating your employees right, who in turn give good customer service. Look at Chick-fil-A. They obviously could make way more paying their employees less and staying open on Sundays, but instead they take the high road. Now look at the shear numbers they get. But most corporations don't care about that. That's why the have sweat shops overseas paying as little as possible while selling their products at 1000% profit.

Having been in 3 different careers over about 17 years of full time work, I can state that this isn't always true. In fact, it's out of the ordinary. Most managers don't have the discretion to promote or give raises on their own. Which means you're dealing with a bureaucracy in order to do it; which also means it rarely happens.

The bigger the corporation, the harder it is. On the flip side, if you're working for something like a startup, they don't have the resources to do so. So you're really looking at small, established companies where this happens. But then it's whether you have a boss that is willing to do so.

Yep I have like 11 people under me. Some should get larger raises or promotions. But nothing I can do about it. I encourage them and write them a good referral if they apply but everything is controlled by the man and I'm just one of their pawns to deliver news and keep order.

Name one country leaning towards capitalism that turned to an extreme form of socialism and people, poor people specifically, were better off afterwards. In each and every case throughout history it was a complete disaster, killing hundreds of million of people in the process BTW.

Companies who treat their employees well are fine in my book of course. We actually did overpay our employees (compared to the market) when I was still in the business. But don‘t fool yourself into believing it‘s more than a business relationship. When the employee finds a job paying much more, he has every right to switch jobs too. I don‘t understand the emotional connection between an employee and a certain employer. What‘s much more important is that there‘s a healthy economy providing enough opportunity for employees. 4 8s would be better. It's just kind of retarded how every job has people who dont work and people who do. Yet we all get paid the same. Or the boss is always pissed because things dont get done

A little off topic, but I copypasta'd this awhile ago:

They buy successful and usually older companies. They double and triple prices/margins to the customer base. Once that dies, then they gut all of the people and expenses. Then they take all of the cash. Then they max out all of the credit lines. Then they sell all of the physical assets for cash and sell all of the patents/proprietary items to their overseas competitors. Then they gut the employee pensions. Then they file for bankruptcy and let the taxpayer shoulder the bill.

You can make more money gutting a well established company in 24 to 36 months than you can make in legitimate profit in a decade or more. Sad but true.

It's tough to be a slacker if it's not in your nature and this is at the root of a lot of frustration in the workplace. I've always taken pride in doing a good job going back to stocking shelves in the cheese aisle of a grocery store when I was 15 and trying to make it look as nice as possible. In time you realize that hard work is typically rewarded with more work. Meanwhile the ball washers and the phonies who play the game move up because integrity just isn't something they place high value on.

I’ve found the best way to higher pay actually is to monkey branch to new companies. Either they pay you more or your current company counters to keep you around.

Lol at playing the long game putting in your time then asking for a raise like a begging peasant.

All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Also the vast majority of jobs don’t need 40 hours to complete what needs to get done if you’re halfway competent. Companies need to switch to 30 hour weeks, either 5 days for 6 hours, 4 days for 7.5 hours, or 3 days for 10 hours.
