Outside of people I've met through projects at work, nobody I know makes that much. And yet basically everyone I've met through work makes that much, so it's kind of an interesting dynamic

Tend to agree but for different reasons. In the US it seems taxes crush the middle class the hardest at 80-150k or so, meaning they’re eating up a large % of the gross income and what’s left sort of drops you down a significant rung in financial freedoms.

However at 300k+ you’re still getting ass fuked in taxes but at least your net income still brings about a great degree of financial freedom.

Problem in Australia is that after $180k you hit a 47% tax rate

What this means in practice is any income above $180k gets put into increasingly speculative investments that deliver tax write-offs, concessions or risk a capital or revenue loss because basically if you lose, government picks up half the tab and if you win you only get to keep half (there are exceptions of course but this is generally true)

So basically you have $180k of income plus chasing losses

Will say though its easier to relate to people in your income bracket though. A conversation that consists of expensive hobbies/trips/experiences can be very off putting to someone that can't afford that life or is struggling just to put food on the table. At that point I may feel not so inclined to share some of my personal details and in some ways I think may delay people getting to know me.

My best friend since childhood, my brother from another mother, right hand man, dude that's always had my back. I found out he only makes 98K a year today. Went NC, blocked him on everything, will never speak to again, thinking about putting a hit on him. Can't believe it, feel so betrayed.

My friends range from kids fresh out of college to other retired guys that are set for life.

I really don't care what someone makes to be honest.

There is a lot of mentoring in my circle of friends.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.
Use the internet to learn why you should do these things and how to do these things.

Most of my co-workers make 200k+ a year and generally you wouldn't know it just by looking at them. And generally they get together with coworkers who are their age or came in around the same time they did.

I still hang with a lot of my highschool football friends who generally make 70-90k a year. Once you get to a certain age you hang with coworkers and a handful of friends sparingly. Kinda sad really

Mostly. The character trait is more like young/middle aged professionals and business owners, many who are on 6 figures or close to that, due to going to uni.

Money is not the issue, some drive 25 year old toyota corolla, some are on brand new volvo SUVs, some have custom made suits, some are in k-mart clothes.

The issue is character. We just don't gel with the dero or povo crowd. Different life goals, different lifestyles. We're trying to pay off mortgages, move up in society, get established, invest, eat nice food, do nice things, get ahead in life. They're trying to do weed, do burnouts, get into get-rich-quick schemes.

My club for my other hobby is mostly bogans, and beyond our hobby interest, its hard to gel with them, they want to blow their entire paycheque on rims, pokies, bali

Man I've worked with tradies in O&G who have made 150-200+ for years and you'd never guess. My previous mentor had $400k years and has a pretty easy life in retirement but isn't crazy balling. Currently working with PMs making upwards of $130/hr as contractors and they're also not balling

Wealthiest person I've personally met so far had founded a steel fabrication company that was pushing $2billion annually in sales and he was the most unassuming dude you could imagine. Drove a used Lexus SUV to work every day, very soft spoken, extremely nice guy. But I also went to his pad once and took a quick gander at his furnishings out of curiosity -- he had lamps in his house that were listed online for $10-15k

That’s not even the worst of it. It can stack on top of other taxes like GST etc. including in relation to the sale of new homes, which as a property developer is punitive

Of course there’s ways around it and there are concessions and exemptions and so on but it basically forces you to start looking for “losses” or otherwise warehousing capital gains in property or diverting money into trusts etc

Yes, I hang out with people who, preferably, are not greedy and money-crazed.

I'm not sure if you brehs will believe this or not, but wealthy people are the biggest arseholes you will ever meet. And they make their money in ways you wouldn't think are possible, or legal.
