If you're going to mention OLP, then if you're talking distinctive Canadian rock voices you can't skip Gord Downie:

And of course Bryan Adams. Although he went full emo in the 90's and only released sappy crap but did very well in the US.

Now now, the Canadian government has apologized for Bryan Adams on several occasions!

There were a lot of great Canadian bands in the 90s that probably most Ameribrahs have never heard of.

technically, maybe - but he also did a lot of unique things.

I used to love NIN but to be honest I was severely disappointed in the shows I saw live - to be fair, some were very early on when they were still playing small clubs but some were after they were fully established and I still felt that it lacked a lot.

Layne Staley might not have had the overall range of Chris Cornell, but he didn't need it for the way that Alice in Chains sounded. Just listen to his loud scream in Love Hate Love after the guitar solo from Jerry Cantrell. He had plenty of vocals. And AIC music was the deepest meaning music of any of them out there. Layne Staley all day for me. Gritty, soulful, loud af, calm, and depressingly sad all in the same albums. Such a shame to this day that he's gone. I can't even listen to the new guy bs and sing his songs. He didn't go through any of what Layne struggled with so I don't want to hear him even try. Man the 90s were awesome.

Funny. I felt the same way about Tool when I saw them live. Amazing music of course but totally lifeless band on stage.

Staley was def unique but Cornell's range was unbelievable. Great vocalists but Cornell takes it for me

A challenger appears, and 100% agree, changed the game and his range on cowboys from hell album was nuts.
