I know 4 people that died from COVID-19 but all 4 are 2nd hand (as is they are relative of friends) and the youngest one was in their 70s. The other 3 were in their 80s.

We also have a huge controversy in MA where people are already suing over their elderly relatives dying as a result of COVID-19 patients being moved into their nursing home.

We were locked down for couple of months only and now everything is back to normal except for wearing mask and some and some littile restrictions. I think America could have done the same. But it seems like the country is too polarized find middle ground. Stay safe.

Because your entire country culture is based on the needs of the individual, not the good of the overall society.

As soon as most Americans hear that they should do something they tend to do the opposite because "it's muh right to!". They don't give a crap about other people, other countries especially (because the US is so much better), or anything that night inconvenience their day to day lives. The simple fact that elderly people are considered totally expendable (as a lot of people in this thread already have said) - and that left/right wingers (depending on your political affiliation) are idiots and should be killed or imprisoned is another example.

American culture is all about whatever is best for the individual American in question. And for something like this where you actually have to think about other people that's a recipe for total disaster. Which is what we're seeing.

In countries where people actually listen to their leaders and do the things that are suggested (by experts, not the internet), COVID cases have severely dropped or been virtually eliminated. We have a province where there's over a million people and they have one active case currently. My city of a million has sixty active cases right now and we are opening back up slowly.

You can say it's just the flu and not an issue all you want, that's your right. But complaining about it and fighting against the obvious solution is only going to make it worse and last longer. But you can't tell an American to stfu and just lock down for a month to help get things under control so that less people are affected and/or die. They don't give a crap.

The flu would probably shut down the entire world every year if we didn't put massive amounts of effort into developing / producing / administering an effective vaccine. Even despite that, it kills huge numbers of people

COVID-19 has 13.3million confirmed cases -- it sounds like a lot but that's a whopping 0.175% of the global population. This thing still has a loooooooooong way to go

7,600,000,000 * 0.4 to 0.7 = 3.04 to 5.32 billion infected
