I’m all for unions in the private sector , espically the skilled trades because some of those guys work hard af to feed their families and support themselves
But teachers get away with too much. I’ve had some nasty , lazy ****s for teachers when I was in school.
They always lie about their income too when they make MUCH more.
When I lived in the Hampton roads area teachers would always tell me they did it for the love of the job and only made 35-40k.

Any big or major city you make more.

Former public school teacher here. I'd like anyone who thinks teaching is easy to step into our shoes and try teaching an overcrowded class of inner city youth who all have tremendous amounts of issues, problems, insecurities, aggressiveness and complete disdain for authority figures day in and day out. On top of that, you have to deal with incompetent admin and out of touch curriculum designers who think that what works in China or Finland will automatically work for kids in the US. On top of the insane work load (each teacher has anywhere between 100-200 students to teach), the fact that schools have become so PC'd to the point where detentions/suspensions are no longer an option, you are stuck with a chaotic classrooms at times.
And by the way, the unions suck. They will not help you if they feel you're not worth helping but they will happily take a big chunk of your paycheck so that the head honchos can drive in limos and have large parties to hob nob with the elite.

A lot of states in the Southeast, it is written into their state constitutions that teachers cannot unionize. Ya'll do realize its not free money during summer right?? Part of their pre-tax paycheck during working months is set aside for "reserve checks/summer checks". So its not $40K for 9 months. Its $40K for 12 months, with weak ass 2x a month paychecks. And yea, this entire COVID crap completely screwed their lesson plans. Some of them never used Google classroom in their life before. Hell even online classrooms at college is Canvas/Blackboard, so they had no idea. Also, lets be real, 99% of parent use teachers and school as the phucking scapegoat babysitter.
Yea 2nd grade math sounds easy when we are adults. But explaining basic math to 8 year old's coming from a poor home who can't read in poondick Georgia, with chit parents and never enough food in their house isn't easy. Title 1 schools where most kids live below the poverty line are the worst. But teachers are expected to handle 25+ kids, hungry and pissed off, but when they call the parents for help.."Nope, its your problem now".

Worse here in Canada. Teachers get paid a chitload and have awesome pension/benefits not to mentions summers off. The worst part is all the people i see that went on the get teaching degrees were/are fkn morons.

I see the teachers on my FB feed bitching about their pay constantly and now complaining about having to go back to school with covid. Its such an embarrassment. my mom was a teacher so i respect what they do but i have no idea why they constantly complain about their pay. they work 190 days and make double the average income for the state if youre in the south. Everyone sites the starting pay but they get raises almost every year. PLUS they get a pension which is nonexistent in most jobs today.
In Arkansas where my mother taught the average HOUSEHOLD income is $47k a year, the percapita is only 25k. She was making nearly $60k and literally only working half the year. now shes retired and still her pension plus SS is like 6k a month. i mean. wtf are teachers complaining about?
Yeah a lot of people, including myself, make more than that, but most only get 2 weeks off. That means experienced teachers are making double the average income and working TWO months less than the average person. 60 days less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Minority majority school districts all have this issue. It's a cultural problem. Wouldn't expect anything different from the LA school district.

Holy chit I have witnessed this first hand when I did an observation at one of the roughest schools I have ever visited in east LA. 50 kids in a chemistry classroom. 40 of them talking loudly, out of their seat, ignoring the lesson. 3 kids running around the room playing tag. 7 actually listening and taking notes. The kids are out of fukn control. Every time a new administration comes in to one of these horrific districts the first course of action they see is to put the boot down Morgan Freeman in Stand by Me style. As soon as they try it though the SPLC and ACLU immediately sue the chit out them and the board immediately puts a stop to any type of reform.
They can't even get teachers from around here cause everyone around here knows whats up. They have this little program called teach across America though where they import 22 y/o liberal white chicks from Nebraska and New Hampshire to come down and teach for around double the salary they pay locals with the promise that if they can make it for 4 years they'll pay off all their student loans. The % of the ones that make it the 5 years is close to 0. I feel horrible for most of those girls. One ended up getting groped on video by like 10 guys in her classroom a couple years back.
The US is vast and diverse place and just because where you live is some utopian paradise doesn't mean that 2000 miles away isn't a bombed out hellscape

Schools are opening here in the fall, and I can't imagine being a parent and sending kids to school to sit isolated, with masks on all day, in one room for 8 hours, and have little to no real interaction with peers. That is called jail.
Home school is the solution.
